The sadness which surrounds hurricane Katrina is horrific within its self. However, to listen to Amy’s misfortune is again like many of the stories of those who survived that dreadful day the levies broke. Amy and her family actually in my opinion did not have to suffer like those that were stranded for days is in New Orleans due to their preplanned trip to Hawaii. Amy and her husband planned and worked very well together to get things squared away before their sudden departure and the hurricane hit. I feel that they fall into a couple of categories. Starting with the Family stress model they are b and x according to the textbook M&F along with using family cohesiveness to push them through the tough times upon their return form Hawaii. The negatives that are missing from the crisis is that they are not affected by extra-marital affairs, health concerns or substance abuse problems. They are coping with a natural disaster and relocation. Amy expressed that she was fortunate and learned that her most important valuables are her family. Although they lost a lot they were blessed to be safe and have each

Family structures within our Australian society vary from family to family, each family is individual and made up of members of different ages, genders and personalities; each family will have one or more backgrounds living within the same household and religions also vary from household to household. Family structures in australia are continually changing statistically, more families are being formed via adoption, through same gender parents, blended families. According to the ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics), from the year 1986, to the year 2001, the sum of one-parent families in Australia has significantly increased by 53%. This increase partakes in many factors such as increasing divorce rates, births to young couples who separate

In today’s world electronics are very prominent, making “abuse” (Kids Health) very easy as there are “[n]o longer limits” (Kids Health) to cyberbullying. In the past, a person could simply walk out of a situation but now “cyberbullying can follow [one] home” (Teens Against Bullying). Bullying has changed drastically changed throughout the years, but now a bully can reach someone from anywhere in the world unlike in the

Family structure talks about family arrangement and composition which includes the roles and interactions (Edelman, 2014). According to Minuchin (2012), the family structural theory emphasis on the important of the family structure and its changes that occurs and how the individuals in the family relate collectively over time to put up and accept each other. Minuchin says further that a well-functioning family will choose how to solve and handle the family experience with a positive outcome. The goal of a structural family is to express the strengths in each other in critical moments, and helping each other through it. Developmental theory is the methods used as the viewpoint of family tasking and development through phases of life (Edelman, 2014).
When the Levees Broke by Spike Lee is a documentary based on the remembrance of hurricane Katrina that sabotaged the victims mainly in New Orleans, Gulf State of Louisiana; and other US states including Mississippi; Alabama and Florida. This documentary briefly summarizes on a fight or flight struggle of many citizens in New Orleans had to challenge in their lives. To start off, in the beginning of the documentary the mayor highly suggested the citizens evacuate their home country. Some residents were in denial and refused to leave their home country while others decided to leave because they wanted to survive and protect their family. Some of the citizens were prideful and strong about their city so they were in denial of evacuating.
From this scenario, I have learned about systems theory as well as other psychological theories such attachment theory. Firstly, based on my research on “Family Systems Theory “(Murray B.) family systems theory suggest that an individual, in this case, Sinead, cannot be understood as an individual alone but instead as part of a family as a family is an emotional unit. Families in every aspect are systems of interdependent and interrelated individuals that cannot be understood if a single person is isolated and examined. Each member in the family, has a specific role to play and a set of rules in which they must follow. Maintaining a certain system in the family may lead to balance in the family but also to huge dysfunction.
Family theories have been used throughout the history of nursing to help guide patient care and provide the best patient outcomes. Certain theories may be more applicable to the specific patient encounter; however, each theory has benefits and drawbacks to their use. The purpose of this paper is to examine two selected theories, comparing their strengths and weaknesses. I will also discuss a theoretical family in relation to one theory, and how that theory can be best integrated into the care provided by an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). Description of Theories
Maureen Samms-Vaughan’s article “Children Caught in the Crossfire” sends a very sensitive message to the families out there. The title encompasses the whole issue presented in the article. Vaughan creates a forum for families undergoing this issue, as well as for other families out there, to be educated about the severe consequences that the change in family structures have on children. Vaughan introduces her message by beginning with the thesis statement, “The change in family structure that children experience during their lives are not without consequences.” Even though the thesis would have been much more effective at the end of her introduction, it still helped to pave a path for the readers.
Bullying has been named an “emerging public health issue requiring intervention” (Ansary, Elias, Greene, & Green, 2015, p. 27). As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe. The act of bullying not only affects the well-being of the person being targeted, but it also affects the rest of the school community too. It can be difficult for teachers, principals, and superintendents to make an ethical decision about what to do when bullying occurs because there are misunderstandings about what bullying is, leading to the improper identification of situations.
Bowen family systems theory is used for understanding both family emotional and relationship processes (Knauth, 2003). Kolbert, Crothers, and Field (2013) suggest that although there are few publications on Bowen family systems theory, it provides counsellors with a framework for clients, specifically with helping adolescents understand how their functioning and identity have been influenced by their family. Bowen’s differentiation of the self has been argued to be equivalent to identity, and an individual’s balance both togetherness and individuality within their family, family members are both borrowing and lending aspects of themselves between each other (Kolbert, Crothers, & Field, 2013). Bowen, (1978, p. 188) suggested that individuals
For this assignment I took the opportunity to observe my interesting family. Most years the weeks spent at my grandparents house just Southeast of Wadena consist of yelling, laughing, made up stories, and lots and lots of eating. The days at grandmas usually go something like this we wake up at a dreadful five A.M., where we make the treck to the kitchen to find most of the adults at the table eating, after that we gear up and head to the stand. A few hours pass and we head back into the warm house. This is normally where the day gets interesting, six hours of confined space with relatives will put anyone on edge.
Activities should be assigned to parents and students to get them more involved and find a solution to the situation. For example; community service, anti-bullying workshops, and school activities. Also, parents should be required to be more involved with the student academics, social life, and be responsible for their child’s behavior. By being involved in their kid’s life, this will help the bully have a better understanding of the situation, and he or she will learn how dangerous and painful is being a bully. On the other hand, involved parents should have a better understanding as of why the student is having this behavior and will know how to help their child or seek additional help.
