Benjamin Franklin is known to many as one of the most prominent founding
fathers who was essential in building our new nation. To the average American, Franklin
is a strong-hearted patriot who felt passionate about dispatching from the Royal Crown.
However, few actually know that before his outward hatred towards Great Britain,
Benjamin Franklin was actually a firm loyalist. The fact that Franklin actually worked for
the good of Great Britain along with the colonies is one that is often overlooked. It is
through writing this biography, The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin, that Wood is
able to explain the lesser known details about Franklin, beginning in his youth and

allow readers to trust Wood's arguments about Franklin, and make the reading that
much more believable. As Wood states in the early pages of this biography, he writes to
"penetrate beneath the many images and representations of Franklin that have
accumulated over the past 200 years." With Wood's highly respected background and
key details implemented throughout the book, readers can agree that Benjamin
Franklin, although one of the most important founding fathers of our country, was not all
who people thought he was.
A great deal of this book is allotted to speaking of the unknown aspects
of Benjamin Franklin's life. Wood reveals that Benjamin would venture numerous times
back and forth between the colonies and Great Britain. Wood even introduces the fact
that Franklin moved to London for 10 years of his life, which could have played a role in
his Loyalist views. Benjamin Franklin was, in a way, a different person in the colonies

Was his primary success as a diplomat to France, a member of the Continental Congress, or through his subterfuge and spy ring.
Benjamin’s curiosity is shown during this becuase he starts making his own experiences and he became curious about more and began to have many experiments he performed. After performing his own experiments, he began writing about what happened during them. Benjamin’s next calling was to go to England and be an agent. Benjamin was helping the new governor, Captain Denny, by helping the colonies. During the course of the book, Benjamin can be described as a man whose work ethic is driven to help things around him become better.

Benjamin Franklin is most well-known for his episode with a lightning bolt, although in reality, he should be known for his aid in the forming of America’s foundation. At the age of fifteen he, along with his brothers, started The New England Courant, a newspaper in the Boston area. With their success rapidly growing, Benjamin decided he was no longer needed and sought to create his own printing press. An additional press was not needed in Boston, so Franklin took his few belongings and traveled up the river to Philadelphia. Here he made acquaintances with influential men, purchased the Pennsylvania Gazette, was elected into the Second Continental Congress, accepted the job of Postmaster General, and became the first U.S Ambassador to France.

Benjamin Franklin and Ester Wheelwright lived similar and different lives. They lived similar lives in the form that they learned many languages and experience great growth and education in life. They differed in the ways they experienced that growth, this is due to how they grew up, and their genders.
