“Go back?” he thought. “No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!”

His inner conflict is a big problem because Bilbo constantly feels that the influence of both of his families play out like a tug-of-war for his real personality. Sometimes he feels a lot like a “Baggins”, and doesn’t want to do anything weird or socially strange, and gets upset about missing breakfast or supper, and misses his regular comforts from home and dislikes Gandalf and the dwarves for making his life complicated. But then other times he feels “Took-ish”, and is excited to be on an adventure for once in his life and wants explore and do amazing things, and then he’s pretty happy that he met Gandalf and the dwarves. He switches back and forth throughout the story, but I don’t think that either personas “won” or “took over” at the end. By the resolution of the story, Bilbo is very happy with both of his “personalities” and doesn’t feel quite so much anxiety over the it …show more content…
I really enjoyed this part because this was when Bilbo finally realizes he does indeed have bravery inside him and that he can do anything without doubting himself. He also renames his sword. (“Sting”) My least favorite part is when Thorin acts very greedy and refuses to share the gold, letting the power go to his head. I didn't like this part because the people had basically killed Smaug for them, making it easier for them to take back the mountain and the treasure, and they had also helped them when they were starving and hurt. This story made me feel anxious most of the time because I never knew what would come or what bad situation they would find themselves next. In all, I thought the book was very good because it's super descriptive, full of twists that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and just overall a nicely told adventure novel. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend or read another book from this

Bilbo’s Transformation/Maturation Some people say that people never change, while others believe that if given the chance, they will. In this case, J.R.R. Tolkien gives the character Bilbo Baggins the chance to change dramatically in his book The Hobbit. Bilbo undergoes many significant changes in his personality as a result of engaging in Gandalf's journey with the dwarves. The most important transformations include Bilbo going from cowardly to brave, from being ridiculed to respected and from being helpless to resourceful.
Again, he also discovers even more of his adventurous side. This is highlighted most when he defends himself and the dwarves from the giant spiders. Also, you can see his change when he is trapped in the Wood-Elf fort. Mirkwood marks the final challenge leading to Bilbo’s ultimate test. The Shire, the Misty Mountains, and Mirkwood make The Hobbit more than a typical adventure book because of their detail and contrasting tones.
You don’t need to have super strength, powers like flying, or laser eyes to be a hero. To be a hero you need self-sacrifice, confidence, knowledge, and bravery. Bilbo Baggins was an ordinary hobbit, with no special powers. Bilbo was content in his hobbit hole, till Gandalf came to Bilbo’s hobbit hole to convince him to go on a quest with him and the dwarves. “Let’s have no more argument.
Along the way, they overcome many obstacles that threaten their lives and put their trust for one another to the test. Bilbo learns that there is more to him than he realizes and through hard work and dedication, he can accomplish almost anything. Overcoming these problems and learning more about himself helped Bilbo change from an ordinary, self-doubting hobbit into a clever, courage-filled, loyal hero. In the beginning, Bilbo has no desire to go on an adventure of any kind, but he quickly learns about the cleverness he obtains when he is forced to make quick decisions.
“His hand met what felt like a tiny ring of cold metal lying on the floor of the tunnel.” (68) The person picking up the ring may not know it yet, but it is more than just an ordinary ring. The Hobbit by J.R.R.Tolkien is a story of adventure and one person finding his fortune and courage through a series of events and experiences, as well as a tiny magic ring. The story follows Bilbo Baggins, a respectable hobbit in a party of adventurous dwarves, from his home at Bag-End to the tunnels of the Misty Mountains where Bilbo finds a “golden ring” from a dark, twisted creature named Gollum, and through to the Lonely Mountain as the company plans to reclaim the lost dwarf kingdom by killing the drake inhabiting it, eventually leading to the battle over the dwarf kingdom’s riches and his return to his Hobbit-hole.
However, little did Bilbo know that this adventure would break away and become something more meaningful. After success and receiving critical acclaim from making and adapting the Lord of the Rings trilogy into the big screen, legendary director/producer/screenplay writer Peter Jackson worked on making a film adaptation of the prequel story, The Hobbit. Peter Jackson is a very intelligent man and director, and wouldn’t break away from the source material unless he sees it as a more effective resultant. Accurately pinpointing to chapter 12, “Inside Information”, we can see Peter Jackson alter the story in a wide scale. In this chapter, 2 key points that Jackson has altered was the tone of Bilbo Baggins’s voice and then literally added a battle set between the dwarves and
