Have you ever read a good book without a conflict? Me neither. Every good story needs conflict, for example in the Hobbit there are many conflicting events. Bilbo in the hobbit encounters many conflicts including Gollum, The Goblins, and the spiders A conflict that occurs is Gollum.who wants the ring Bilbo has. Another big conflict are the goblins. In the story there are also smaller conflicts like the spiders who attacked Bilbo. Conflict plays a big role in The hero's journey, conflicts vary in number and importance, they're what keeps the reader on edge. Gollum is a stoorish Hobbit that meets Bilbo when Bilbo gets lost in the mountain. When Gollum sees the ring Bilbo found he threatens to take it from him. This causes conflict for Bilbo because the ring is magical and typically helps the person who's wearing it and if it is taken from him he will no longer have that help. When Bilbo refuses to give Gollum the ring, Gollum threatens to kill Bilbo. Bilbo manages to escape Gollum thanks to his wit and riddles,but Gollum caused a bump in the road of …show more content…

They run Into the Goblins while making their way to the Dwarves kingdom. The Goblins cause havoc when they enter the mountains, they chase Bilbo and the Dwarves the group gets separated and that's how Bilbo initially meets Gollum. The great goblin is always chasing them he says in a song "Bones will be shattered, necks will be wrung! You'll be beaten and battered, from racks you'll be hung! You will die down here and never be found, down in the deep of Goblin Town!" (Tolkein 49).The Goblins attack them a lot throughout the book, but a time that stood out was when they chased them up the trees and set them alight. As you can see the Goblins are big part of the story because they are a big part of the conflict. The Goblins also captured some of Bilbo's friends and were planning on eating Bilbo when they caught
