Nothing is perfect in this world. Time after time, history has proven that citizens are never completely satisfied with their respective government. Pleasing a population in which everybody is happy is an impossible feat. Unhappy with their government, people decide to congregate revolt for what they believe to be a greater cause. Congregations of people who revolt, such as those who revolted in French Revolution and the American Revolution, have proven to be successful as their motives were eventually made into a reality. A revolution is a desperate remedy in hopes to overthrow an unjust government or social order, usually due to economic hardship or political favoritism. The French Revolution was a revolution in France that focused primarily …show more content…
Before the French and Indian War, nobody assumed that the colonies would revolt against Great Britain and form a nation of their own called America. The colonies were only asked to follow normal regulations and the government did not interfere with them too much. However, following the French and Indian War, King George III, the contemporary King of Great Britain, lost a lot of money due to his participation in the conflict. In order to pay off his outstanding debt, King George III started to impose taxes on the colonies without their consent. Obviously, his actions infuriated the once-peaceful colonists, and they responded to these outrageous laws by boycotting British goods. Hence began the conflict between Great Britain and the colonists. Upset that Great Britain continuously discriminated against their political body, the colonists threw taxed tea from Britain overboard into the sea, which is notoriously known as the “Boston Tea Party”. The King later imposed the “Intolerable Acts” as a response to the rowdy actions of the colonists. The Boston Port Act closed the port of Boston until the Dutch East India Company was paid for the damaged goods. The Massachusetts Government Act put the government of Massachusetts almost exclusively under direct British control. The Administration of Justice Act enabled royal officials to be tried in Britain if the king felt it necessary for fair justice. The Quartering Act ordered colonies to provide lodging for British soldiers. Lastly, the Quebec Act expanded British territory in Canada and guaranteed the free practice of Roman Catholicism. The “Intolerable Acts” were seemingly directed at the colonies, who were already enraged with Great Britain’s prejudice against them. The economic causes of the revolution, aside from a continual taxation of the
The colonists abruptly became enraged by these acts passed by Parliament. This was exhibited through how they referred to the acts. While Britain regarded these as the “Coercive Acts”, meaning they enforced stricter laws on the colonists so they obeyed the rules, the colonists referred to them as the “Intolerable Acts”, meaning these acts should not be enforced or allowed. These acts provided consequences for the Boston Tea Party, allowed for convicted British soldiers to be tried in biased ways, excluded numerous colonies from their own claimed territory, alarmed Protestants, and threatened the prospect of “self-government.” Specifically the Massachusetts Government Act and the Quebec Act prompted them to propose they did not hold as much
After the French and Indian War, the British set out to reform the relationship with the new colonies, (Shultz,n.d.). They issued a number of tax acts on the colonists to raise money. These acts were met with great opposition from the colonists, as they felt it was interfering with the liberties they had fought so hard for. Acts such as the Sugar Act, the Quartering Act, and the Stamp caused the colonists great frustration and this lead to rebellion toward the Crown. The Sugar Act would lower the taxes sugar and molasses, but much to the dismay of the colonists Europe had increased its enforcement of these taxes, (Shultz,n.d.).
In dire need of paying off war debt, the British Parliament decided to tax the colonists due to the debt being their fault. Along with taxing the colonists, the East India Company boosted the income for the Parliament and benefited the George III by hurting the colonists economically by enacting the tea act. Blending “lethal politics, personalities, and economics”3 the American Revolution was bound to happen between the colonists and British, having little supporters of the idea of war. With the tension build up between the colonists and British Parliament, the Boston Tea Party occurred with the colonists rebelling against the Parliament’s political decision towards the colonists, symbolizing the starting point for a revolution and a step
Colonists believed that Britain was implementing taxes upon them unfairly. Colonist reacted by throwing tea of the Boston Harbor. An event that would later be called the Boston Tea Party. Colonists did not react well to the many taxes.
King George III realized that they were losing control of the colonies, so he and parliament vowed to punish boston. In the spring of 1774, parliament passed the Coercive Acts, which were very harsh laws intended to punish the people of massachusetts. Then the Quebec act was passed later on, which angered the colonists furthermore. Colonists called the new laws, the Intolerable Acts. They were going to fight for the control of America, so the British soldiers were trying to destroy the artillery and ammunition of the colonists.
The colonists ended up protesting against Britain because of these Acts, hence the Boston Tea Party, and this caused everything to
After the French and Indian war, Britain was left with a huge debt to pay. The colonies were happy that they had won the war, so they never thought of what had to come after the war that they had caused in the first place. Great Britain thought that by taxing the colonies, it would be the only way to help pay off their debt. The taxes and laws that Britain had imposed on the colonies were the Stamp Act, Sugar Act, The Proclamation Act of 1763, the Quartering Act, Townshend Acts and the Coercive Intolerable Acts. Some of these acts had been for the solely purpose to help pay off the debt that Britain had, after the French and Indian War.
George Grenville became Prime Minister and believed that the colonists needed to pay their share for the French and Indian War, so he proposed the Intolerable Acts which just made the colonist mad. Charles
When the British won the war they established an act called the Proclamation of 1763. This act didn 't allow colonists to travel over the Appalachian mountains. The British did this because they didn 't have the ability to protect colonists over the mountains where there were Indian uprising. This angered the colonists and was one of the many things that caused the American Revolution.
Revolution means: a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system. I think the reason for rebellion is not because the people want too, but the decisions the Government makes. If i were to chose to be apart of a rebellion or a revolution, i would choose the revolution because it uses less force
However, in 1773, the East India Company noticed that there was an overproduction of tea and its prices surely would decline (“The Third Imperial Crisis”). Tea was one of the, if not the, most valuable asset to many members in Parliament. Britain was forced to impose a new Tea tax on the colonists, which was aimed to keep the price of tea high. Even this act was reasonable in the eyes of the British, but to the colonists, this was just a British way of assuring dominance considering it was now for profit rather than to pay off debts. The response to the Tea Acts was the Boston Tea Party of 1773 (“The Third Imperial Crisis”).
A revolution is when the way a government and a country runs is changed by cause of a revolt. When people of the 13 colonies started to insist a say in what goes on, the British just kept passing laws and creating policies that put the people of the 13 colonies at a disadvantage. The colonists felt they were being repressed and got even more angered. The anger of these people got so high that starting on April 19th 1775 they started a full out revolution against the British. They won the fight, and after the revolution ended, the way the commonwealth was managed changed forever.
On the other hand the British deprived the colonists of even the most basic of rights. The American Revolution was more about Civil Liberties because there are three main arguments that support it: Taxation without Representation, the Quartering Act, and the Intolerable (Coercive) Acts. These actions that the British did justified the colonists’ revolution. First of all, one civil liberty that was exempt from the colonists reaches was taxation without representation.
Tensions were high in Boston between the British and the Colonists. Between the Boston Massacre in 1770 and the Boston Tea Party in 1773, Britain was very upset with Boston. King George III, the Lord North- led British government and many of the British citizens were very upset and irritated when they found out that the Boston colonists had made “Tea with salt water”. Once the parliament heard of their escapade, they began thinking of a way to insure that there would be no more uprisings in the Massachusetts colony.
The American Revolution (1700-1790) was a historical event in time, where the Thirteen Colonies that became the United States of America, gained independence from the British Empire. Many historians would agree that the Revolution was caused by events and the growing differences between the colonists and England. The cause of the American Revolution could be summarized in the saying ‘liberty vs. tyranny’. The American Revolution was a struggle by liberty-loving Americans to free themselves from a dictatorial British rule. In this period, the Colonies protested against the British Empire and entered into the American Revolutionary War, also known as the American War of Independence.
