In the movie, A Civil Action, personal injury lawyer, Jan Schlichtman and his law firm, file a law suit against Beatrice Foods and W.R. Grace & Company. The prosecution’s case is based on the premise that these two leather companies contaminated the water supply, in Woburn, Massachusetts. The motion brought before the court requested that the eight plaintiffs be compensated for “negligence, conscious pain and suffering, and wrongful death.”1 Schlichtman presented medical evidence that illustrated an unusually high incidence of cancer in the small town of Woburn. The following quote illustrates evidence likely cited in the prosecutor’s brief, “Twelve deaths over fifteen years from leukemia, eight of them children.”2 In addition, the prosecutor
A seemingly uncorrelated death of a child becomes an attack on two businesses that brought forth unwanted attention. It reveals how corporations can truly neglect their surroundings and the safety of citizens without remorse. In the quaint town of Woburn, Massachusetts, the death of Anne Anderson’s son due to leukemia quickly transformed from a personal tragedy to an extensive lawsuit. Anne Anderson approached Jan Schlichtmann, a personal injury lawyer, to tackle the case. From the beginning, Anne makes it clear that she does not want money, she simply wants an apology.
This morning’s press conference about the new founds dedicated to the Parks and Recreation Department, was held to answer questions about the money and whether or not it was given under false pretenses. The money that was initially given to the Parks and Recreations department was to enforce tighter security in local parks when one of their own employees was injured. Local officials say that early on Saturday morning Jerry Gergich, the employee in question, had sustained multiple injuries including a dislocated shoulder and a black eye, while in a local park feeding the humming bird feeders as part of his job. Mr. Gergich claimed he was mugged by two unknown assailants on Saturday morning when giving his statement to police officers when

In the movie, A Civil Action, the plaintiff’s case began when a group of various parents and families believed that the health related issues and deaths in their city of Woburn was the result of contaminated water. Although the attorney, Jan Schlichtmann, was reluctant to take the case at first because they didn’t have plausible cause, he realized that 2 corporations sat at the border of the river. Mr. Schlichtmann and his firm thus took the case and file a major lawsuit which stated that the the two corporations, Grace and Beatrice, caused wrongful deaths due to the dumping of hazardous waste. The plaintiff side of this case then begins to collect scientific evidence and witness statements in order to prove that both Grace and Beatrice were
As forewoman of the jury we believe that Mr. Harmon was the look out for the robbery. Two witnesses stated that Mr. Harmon was to go into the drugstore before the robbery was supposed to happen and see if there were any cops or probable witnesses to the crime that ended Mr. Nesbitt’s life. Mr. Harmon’s own journal he stated that he participated in the robbery. These reports of the actions lead us to the conclusion that Mr. Harmon participated in the crime.
The court cases Goldberg and Wheeler do not stand for the proposition that only welfare benefits for people in extreme circumstances are entitled to pre-termination hearings. However, this is one situation where cutting off benefits with little or no notice could affect the well-being of the family or person. Any programs that offer they type of assistance people rely on to survive could benefit from pre-termination hearings, not just the welfare program. Welfare is one of the main public assistance programs, although I think housing assistance and food stamps might fall into the welfare category, they are also in need of a pre-termination hearing. In the Goldberg and Wheeler cases, California and New York did not want to give anyone a hearing

"The State of California versus Scott Lee Peterson (Case number 1056770, 2005)", was an interesting case. This case was interesting because Laci was a very beautiful and seemingly young, friendly, and happily pregnant woman with lots of friends. Her husband, although attractive, had a kind of macho tough guy womanizer type of persona about himself. It is hard to believe or fathom someone being so cruel as to kill their pregnant wife, regardless of their marital problems. Laci came up missing on December 24, of 2002, the day before Christmas.
