The cardiovascular system helps blood circulate through a network of vessels in the body to give single cells oxygen and nutrients. The cardiovascular system in our body consists of the heart and blood vessels which are further more split in to capillaries, arteries and veins. The human heart pumps the blood via the blood vessels and is split in to four sections. The right side of the heart moves poorly oxygenated blood and the left side is responsible for moving highly oxygenated blood. Oxygenated blood that is pumped throughout the body by the arteries which is then supplied to the body tissue as they need to survive. The blood in the arteries are under very high pressure this could potentially damage our tissue therefore the oxygenated blood first travels to the capillaries which are quite small, low-pressured vessels which are then responsible to supply blood to the tissue. The capillaries absorb more carbon dioxide into the blood which is then delivered to the veins which is then supplied back into the heart. The respiratory system supplies oxygen to the blood and removes the carbon dioxide out of the blood. When the human heart has blood that is low in oxygen and high in carbon dioxide, it pumps that blood to our lungs through the pulmonary arteries. However when our lungs expand and get new fresh air from the surroundings, that oxygen is then transferred to the blood which is low in oxygen which also sends some of the new carbon dioxide breathed in to our lungs. The Pintails heart is like a mammals consisting of four chambers, two ventricles and two atria. The left ventricle pumps blood to all major organs in the body and throughout the rest, only excluding the lungs. This causes the left ventricle to be larger and more muscular. The lungs are fed blood from the right ventricle, which is the only the only function of that ventricle. If a person does not have a cardiovascular system that is in good working order, it can be a fatal situation. Along with pumping blood to the body, the cardiovascular system also brings oxygen and nutrients to all of the different organs and tissues within the body. As our blood makes its circuit journey from the heart to the extremities and then back to the heart, waste is removed from the cells as well. For the cardiovascular system to function at an optimal level, it needs to be healthy and fit.
In this section I will explain how two of the body systems interrelate to perform a function. My two body systems are the cardiovascular system and the digestive system and how they work together to enable food to be digested. First of all, the digestive system works by passing food through the human system, whilst breaking it down and absorbing nutrients. The circulatory system transports the oxygen and other compounds through our bodies. These two work together to process and circulate nutrients so our cells can use them for fuel.

Cardiovascular Response to Exercise Introduction The cardiovascular system, comprising of blood vessels, the heart, and blood, responds predictably with regards to the increased exercise demands (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 62). In a sense, a series of cardiovascular changes take place in response to physical exercise for providing enough blood supply to the constricting muscles, to dissipate the energy produced by active muscles, and to maintain the supply of blood to vital organs of the body such as the brain and the heart (Agarwal et al. CC06).
The heart may have the sinoatrial node (SA node) to trigger contraction, but in order for us to breath our nervous system has to signal for us to begin the process of ventilation (breathing). Our brain stem has three parts to it, but only the pons and medulla oblongata play a key role in breathing. The medulla helps set the respiratory rhythm by receiving and sending impulses to a bundle of neurons called the ventral respiratory group to the phrenic nerve to bring about contraction in the diaphragm and external intercostal muscles. All this only happens though due to the sensors of the chemoreceptors. The chemoreceptors located in the medulla and carotid and aortic bodies detect a rise in carbon dioxide (CO2).
