The western hemisphere in the 18th and 19th century displays rebellion against their mother countries. The American Revolution was against the mother country of Great Britain, and the Latin American Wars for Independence were against the Spanish Empire. In some ways, the wars are similar, but they still remain distinctly different. The causes are what makes them so similar and so different. In the similarities, the different economic reforms in Great Britain and Spain are one of the many causes. Both empires were under debt for different reasons. Great Britain was in debt due to the Seven Years War (also known as the French and Indian War) and needed money to pay off the war off. Great Britain decided to impose various acts such as the Sugar, …show more content…
In Great Britain’s colonies, the Acts were seen as an injustice to colonists, because the colonist felt they should not have to pay the taxes without fair representation. Without the representation, the colonists determined Great Britain knew nothing on the needs of the colonies and felt they did not have to pay the debt of the Seven Years War off. The enlightenment also influenced parts of the American Revolution and the Latin American Wars of Independence. Many works such as Common Sense by Thomas Paine in Great Britain’s colonies encouraged the colonists to break away from the crown and form a new country, because the crown was not living up to the ideals of the mother country taking care of its colonies. Most of this inspired nationalism in the colonies and created the Sons of Liberty to fight and push for American Independence. The enlightenment was somewhat restricted in Latin America as Spain tried to restrict the education in New Spain by mandating what books were allowed and center education around the church, hoping to diminish revolution fervor as the French and American revolutions were …show more content…
The various acts would create dissatisfaction, none more so than the Tea Act which monopolizes the tea industry and the only company the colonists could buy from is the British East India Company. Ultimately caused the rebellion known as the Tea Party where the Sons of Liberty threw tea in the Boston Harbor. The issues only arise from the British Empire not listening to the needs and wants of the colonists. There was no major class issue in the colonies making them not want to be with each other. The members of the Continental Congress tried to make peace with George III, the ruling monarch at the time, with the Olive Branch Petition, but again, the British Empire did not want to listen. Thus the leaders sent the Declaration of Independence, another difference since there was no formal document in the Latin American Wars for Independence. There was also issue over expansion into new lands gained by the British in the Seven Years War or the French and Indian War, written in the Treaty of Paris. The British did not want to upset or bother the neighboring Natives to prevent another war, but the colonists felt they deserved to explore the new
As Well as similarities, there are many differences from Latin American Independence, to the French Revolution. In Latin America people wanted independence from the reigning Spanish who were controlling them from thousands of miles away. Unlike the people of France, who were displeased with King Louis XVI who wasn't controlling from overseas. In addition, after the French Revolution the Catholic Church lost power and after Latin American Independence, the church gained
Jessica Pehush Mr. Polanis The French and Indian war that lasted from 1754-1763 proved to be a very expensive war. By the time of the French surrender and the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1763 Britain was in considerable debt and began to compensate by increasing tax regimens on the colonies in America. The occurrence of the new levying of taxes created great distress between the colonies and Britain's already rocky relationship. The British began to become more and more involved and controlling of all the colonies affairs, and it ended salutary neglect of its colonies. Due to this new asserted control and later agitations, the colonists were ultimately driven away from reconciliation and towards rebellion and assertion of their independence

The Spanish-American War and World War1 were one of the most crucial moments in our history as Americans and the reasons we joined were for humanity and for our benefit. The U.S entered the Spanish American War and World War 1 for very similar reasons. They joined from innocent Americans getting killed or from being directly affected from the war, territory and resources, and unfair rules that hurt not just Americans but innocent people. Throughout Latin America, many revolutions broke out because of the rivalry between social groups. The main root of these issues was between the Creoles( people who were born in America but had purely Spanish blood) and the Peninsulares (Spanish born people who migrated to the colonies). Both groups were motivated to achieve the highest position of power, yet the Creoles were the ones who
America and Latin America both wanted the same thing out of these revolutions. They were both sick and tired with the type of government that they had. They both had king telling them what to do, so they wanted to get rid of that. They both wanted to get there independence. English and French both had a type of government that they didn't like either
Soon, they got themselves tangled in a war with the French, which was fought in 3 different theatres; Europe, India, and North America. The wars were extremely expensive. (French Revolution) The British tried to pay of the debts earlier, but when the 7-year war ended, they expected the Americas to contribute to the cost. After all, they did defend them from the French and the

The French, Haitian, and American Revolutions were all sparked from the minds of the colonists, slaves, or lower classes who were treated with inequality by their own governments. In each location, there was a noticeable trend of mistreatment between government and people. In Haiti, slaves brought over by the French who captured the island, and forced them into brutal labor in what was the most valuable and wealthy are at the time. The government and leadership in France was corrupt as they were in much debt. The American Revolution War and the Mexican American War is similar revolutions because of the many triumphs and mistakes of each revolution, but had many differences. The differences between both of them were that America was a monarchy and Mexico was dictatorship. American did not treat slaves the same as the rest of the people and Mexico exploits and give horrible treatment of workers. Both revolutions were differently socially and economically. America’s social causes was lack of freedom, inferior to Britain, wanting liberty, republicanism, and independence.
The American and the French revolutions were more similar than different. One similarity being is that both the Americans and French wanted to escape the rule of their King. American colonists protested against taxation passed by the English Parliament without any representation in that body.
Due to his many experiences while living in Great Britain, he grew a desire to fight for the oppressed and often questioned the authority the British Monarchy had over the American colony. Thomas Paine wrote an influential Pamphlet “Common Sense” a scathing attack on the monarchial tyranny over the American colony and the significance of American independence. Thomas Paine’s ideas in this pamphlet were not original, however were more accessible to the masses due to the clear and direct way he wrote. His pamphlet helped to inspire The Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson. The Declaration of Independence contains a list of grievances against King George III and justifications for the assertion of the right for independence.
