Introduction:
Education is a basic need of every human being. Every country has their own education system with a motive of “to make their people well educated and civilized”. Schools, colleges, universities, Affiliation Boards, teacher, lecturers, professors, students etc all these entities form the system called an educations system. So we can say that:
“Education Education system is a collection of interrelated entities or components that work in collaboration to achieve the common goal i.e. educate the students.”
In the coming part of this paper we are going to compare and contrast the education of United Kingdom (UK) and United States of America (USA), two most famous countries in the field of education.
Compare and Contrast between UK and USA Education System
1. Stages
UK education system consists of five stages or levels that are early years, primary, secondary, Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE). On the other hand USA system is quite different than UK, in USA there are four stages of education: primary school, secondary school, undergraduate (UG) and graduate.
2. Time Duration
Time duration for course completion in both countries is different for different

Semester system is followed by most of the universities and schools in both countries some universities also follow the trimester or quarter system. Difference is in the beginning of the term; In UK most of the schools starts in September or October and end in May or June on the other hand the education system is bit more varied. While most of the schools start their term in mid to late August and end in may. Some small art college may start later. Odd semester ends in December and even semester starts in mid January after long holiday break. Holidays in both education systems depends on the different aspects like government holidays, summer break, winter break, special holidays
Do you know what a “year round school” is? Did you know that this is a debate that has been going for years? Most public schools in the US have a 10-month long school period with a 2-month long summer break. An year round school is a 180 day school year with short breaks in between each term. Year round schooling has been going on in most arguments about whether it is going to improve student learning.
One of the history's greatest figures, Nelson Mandela, once said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Over the course of years, this statement has only become more relevant. Maybe that is the reason why the topic of the decline of the American education has been recently spurring such a heated debate among national academic and teaching communities. In “The Chronicle of Higher Education”, Carl Singleton, a faculty member at Fort Hays State University, also presented his reflections concerning the U.S. education system.
Helping World Majority Students In the article, helping world majority students make sense of university expectations, the author who is Helen Fox tries to prove that even though it is deemed necessary to make changes in the school education system, it is quite hard to make such adjustments, but provides better strategies on the subject. The author argues that it is highly difficult for these institutions to change their standards as well as the entire instruction framework for the purpose of making it easier for the foreign students taking courses in the institution.
We 've just had two weeks off, everyone is refreshed, remotivated and their fire has been rekindled." ( Barton). Most importantly students, teachers and administration form a better relationship when all these factors are put together. Although most kids are used to traditional school schedules, year-round school will benefit them more.
with 90 days equals out to 30 days off from school with year round school ( Dennis). To add on, Schools require 175 days to 180 days of school for regular school. But with year round school kids would be going to school for the same amount of time but with their time spread out. Schools with year round school have nine week quarters just like school have. For example, some schools in Michigan have year round school.
Year-Round Schooling A study from the 2011-2012 school year concluded that there were up to as many as 3,700 schools that operated on the year round schedule (Year-Round Schooling). Currently, a majority of schools run on the typical schedule where there is three months worth of summer vacation. With this schedule, there is a major gap where information is typically lost, possibly resulting in possible degrading academics. Year long schooling should be implemented in schools as it allows for students to retain a larger portion of information leading to improved academics on this set schedule. With year round schooling, students are less likely to forget information, where the dropout rate reduces significantly.
Traditional school versus Year round school The idea of year round school is starting to be more the topic of discussion. Many people are for the idea of year round education and many are against it. “If our country began on a year around schedule, it would have seemed bizarre to propose the summer- off schedule as a superior way to educate students” says Principle Hazel Colebank. Although some may feel year round school is great for bettering education, changing what’s considered normal could cause more harm than good.
Year-round school usually has 45 days of school and then a 15 day break. But there is no summer break like traditional school. This leaves teachers with a little over two weeks to prepare for next school year. If teachers have to change their decorations or update their curriculum, they have barely enough or not enough time to prepare for a new year. This would put teachers in a hard situation and would not give them time to be with their family.
The European countries founded colonies in the Americas because they could buy cheap resources from their colonies, the colonies would serve as captive markets, and they could collect taxes from the colonists. Colonies were only allowed to trade resources with their mother country and their mother country wanted to buy resources as cheaply as possible. This meant that the colonists had to sell resources to their mother country at low prices even if they could sell their resources for more elsewhere. After buying resources from their colonies, the mother country would make refined goods to sell back to their colonies at a high price with a large profit. The colony would have to buy the goods from their mother country because they could not buy from anyone else, thus creating captive markets.
It is able to do this because bigger schools will put their students on tracks. Which means, different tracks have different schedules. For example, let 's say that a school has 5 tracks ⅗ of those tracks will stay in school while the other ⅖ are on vacation. This also helps students to get more attention from their teachers without having to take time out of their own day to visit the instructor and ask for help. Year-round schools can serve 150 to 200 more students than schools on a traditional calendar (Wral).
So having traditional schooling kids get three months off for being a kid. (Matthew
Expanded learning time is either lengthening the school days or lengthening the school year. Many year-round schools simply reorganize
They both give students the same credit requirements and the same credits. Semesters differ from trimesters in many ways. Semesters give students seven classes a day throughout the whole school year. Trimesters give students five classes during the school period. The class time in semesters are only fifty-five minutes.
Education plays a very significant role in the development of the latent potential of an individual. It helps in nurturing these dormant capabilities to mould them into stable personalities. Therefore the main aim of education is the holistic development of an individual and the school subjects like science, mathematics, social studies, art, craft, languages etc. ensures the all round development of the child. All the faculties of education are interdependent on each other and cannot be taught in water tight compartments. Each subject aims at developing an individual to the fullest.
