NFL players come in all shapes, sizes and attitudes, but what really defines the few that people cannot seem to decide whether they like or not. We have tons of players in NFL history that have been hated, followed and idolized. Yet we come across these certain “special” players who know how to do allot more than just play the sport. I decided to look more into the controversies that shadowed three of the NFL’s most well-known names, Richard Sherman, Terrel Owens and Chad “OchoCinco” Johnson. IF we are going to look at the controversies that surrounded these players then we have to first look at each of these players greatness’s. Chad Johnson and Terrel Owens are both retired wide receivers who lit up the sports world with their stats and attitudes. …show more content…
Greatness can be defined by many people but we are using the definition of “notable; remarkable; exceptionally outstanding” (dictionary). Chad Johnson was drafted to the Cincinnati Bengal’s in the 2001 draft and played for that team for 10 seasons. In 2011, Johnson was traded to the New England patriots. Johnson had started off as a quiet rookie with only 28 catches for 329 yards. But in 2003 he set a Bengal’s record with 1,3ff receiving yards and in 2004 he racked up 95 catches for 9 touchdowns and 1,274 yards. He later surpassed his record with 1,432 receiving yards and led the AFC in receiving yards for four straight seasons and made the pro-bowl five times from 2003-2007. April 20, 2006, Johnson resigns with the Bengal’s for five more years through 2011. Johnson started this season off rather slow thanks to an injury he had suffered. The first 8 weeks of this season he only caught two touchdowns and only amassed 483 receiving yards. However in a breakout game against the chargers (which they lost) Johnson amassed 260 receiving yards and two touchdowns, breaking the Bengal’s single game receiving yard record. He went on to amass 190 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in a 31-16 win over the New Orleans Saints in the following week, this achieved him the NFL record of 450 receiving yards in back-to-back games. In the fan voting for the 2006 Pro Bowl, he finished first in votes for wide receivers, and fourth overall with 987,650 total votes. For the rest of his career after these spectacular years Johnson would decrease allot stats wise due to quarter back injuries his team faced. Sticking with the receivers the other controversial receiver that will be look at would be T.O. or Terrell Owens. T.O. played 15 seasons in the NFL and was a six time pro bowl selection. He also holds and shares multiple NFL records, his 15,934 career receiving yards rank second in NFL history, and his 153 receiving touchdowns are third. He is also one of only nine players in NFL history to catch 1,000 career passes. Popularly known by T.O., Owens is known for over the top touchdown celebrations and public persona as he is for his talent on the field. The San Francisco 49ers drafted Owens in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Owens played his first professional game against the New Orleans Saints, where he played on the 49ers' special teams. In Owens first season in the NFL he was relatively quite as most rookies are when put on special teams but a light shined on him in 1997. In the 1997 NFL season, Owens became a big name for the 49ers when Jerry Rice went down early in the season with a torn ACL. He and quarterback Steve Young won 13 games that season. Owens finished with 936
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed 25-year-old linebacker Lavonte David to a five-year, $50.25 million extension on August 9, which includes a guarantee of $25.56 million, as per CBS Sports’s John Breech. The three-year pro is set to receive an annual salary of $10.05 million. David is entering the final year of his rookie contract which would have earned him $740,000 this season. Because of the contract extension, he is set to earn so much more.
The NFL is one of the most popular sports down south. In the NFL there are lots of player that don’t succeed. Players in college play very hard to make it to the NFL. The NFL draft is a great thing they have come up with now so the sorry teams that are in the NFL can get some talent now. These are three NFL players that are known for their abilities on and off the football field.
It seems like year after year he is on the edge of having a breakthrough season, but just falls short of pulling the trigger. He has passed the 800 yard mark in each of the previous two seasons, and had over 1,000 yards receiving in 2013. He will more than likely be available for a lot less than Jeffery, and with the right surroundings could be equally as
Jerry retired with 38 NFL records to his name and some of those are including most career receptions (1,549), receiving yards (22,895) and touchdowns (197). Rice was later named a member of the NFL’s all decade teams of the 1980s and 1990s. In 2010, Rice who won three super bowl rings with the 49ers, was inducted into the pro football hall of fame. But its funny that if Jerry haven't skipped class that day and run into the vice principal he wouldn't have been able to play football ever they would have never been a Jerry Rice. Jerry was 6’2 and 200 pounds 13 time pro bowler.
He made a record of four Pro Bowl for the Dallas Cowboys, that is like one of the best records. Romo has been in 347 games, and has passed the ball 4,483. His first game was in the Carolina Panthers on October 29, 2006. Tony Romo is the best player of the Dallas Cowboys (a team). When Romo was playing, he was one who helped the Dallas Cowboys win games.
Now let's talk about JJ Watts 2014 season where he did his best and put on a show for everyone. In 2014 he had 78 tackles which was more than his 2015 season only by 2 tackles and he also had 20.5 sacks which is a lot of sacks in just one season and also in just 2014 alone he got an interception that allof a sudden turned into an 80 yard touchdown which was probably one of the most amazing things in his season so far. He has only been in the NFL for 5 years and he has been rewarded with best defensive player of the year twice which is pretty amazing if you ask me. He also looked up to Reggie White who is another amazing defensive player and he was on the Green Bay
Brady had to battle a rival quarterback for the position of started for most of his college days. This led to many questions when the 2000 draft came around. On paper Tom Brady wasn’t really that spectacular and had poor stats. This let for tom brady to be drafter number 199 in the 2000 draft. They drafted six other quarterbacks before brady.
After graduating Brady passed up the chance to play professional baseball and instead went to college to play football at University of Michigan. He made the school's football team but Brady did not spend much time on the field in his first two college seasons. In his junior year he had to fight to stay on the field with Freshman QB Brian Griese and as the starting quarterback Brady had mild success leading several unlikely comebacks to finally win the job and in his final season he lead his team to a win in the Orange Bowl in 2000. Brady was overlooked by teams despite his performance in the Orange bowl but he was finally drafted by the New England Patriots In the 6th Round at pick 199. Tom served as a backup quarterback and played in only one game in his first season.
Most Valuable Player Award after completing 22 of 30 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns. By the age of 27, Troy Aikman of the Dallas Cowboys won two Super Bowls. It was a feat that just five other quarterbacks had accomplished in NFL history. And none had done so as young as Aikman. A prototype quarterback at six-foot-four, 220 pounds, with a rocket arm, Aikman emerged in the early 1990s as one of pro football's brightest stars.
I’m not saying he’ll ever be on Welker’s level of talent, but it’s not too crazy to think that Romo and him can’t be the next Brady and Welker type of combo in “Big D”. Beasley quickly became one of Romo’s favorite targets down the stretch run of last season and they should only build from that. Will he be anything more than a fifth wide receiver on your team? Maybe not, but he can be a key cog to your fantasy offense during bye weeks and favorable matchups. Just keep your eye on this young receiver in Dallas, it may pay off come fantasy playoff
Adrian Peterson There are only 1,696 players in the NFL. The elite of the elite. This may sound like a large number but in the grand scheme of things, 1,696 men out of the 150 million men in the United States is nothing. One of these elite few is Adrian Peterson. With over 12,000 rushing yards and 100 touchdowns in his career, some would say Adrian is one of the best running backs in NFL history (NFL).
He was the best known for his speed. He played for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers (World Book.1947.Encyclopedia.26 March 2015.). OJ
He has won player of the week twice in the NFL. He has had 3 seasons in top 10
He started his Junior and Senior year from 1998 to 1999. As a starter his overall record was 20-5. He led his team to back to back Big Ten Championships. Also he won the Citrus Bowl in 1998 and the Orange Bowl in 1999. His college stats were pretty outstanding.
On September 26th 2014, Derek Jeter took his final swing at the most prestigious Yankees Stadium in front of thousands and millions of baseball fans and ended up winning his final home game. The crowd went ballistic over the RBI and chanted “Derek Jeter” while raising signs that read “Salute to the Captain”. At that very moment, people viewed Derek Jeter not for what race he fell under or for what kind of person he was or for the ladies he slept with, but the athlete who electrified the diamond every time he stepped on it. Roberta Newman wrote an article on (Branding Derek Jeter, Redefining Race) companies such as Movado and Avon on how they showcase Derek Jeter “as neither black nor white and so can relate to everyone” (Newman) as a turning
