According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the bike crash occurred on Placentia Avenue north of Center Street the morning of January 11, 2008. He was hit by a black Jeep Cherokee and suffered major injuries.
 Katelyn Obbards, 18, of Costa Mesa was injured in a bicycle accident that may have involved an improperly timed traffic signal. The Orange County Register reports that the accident occurred at the intersection of Fairview Road and Fair Drive in Costa Mesa. S he was crossing the road on a green light when it turned yellow and a car struck her bicycle. She claims that the light is not long enough for safe crossing. She sustained facial lacerations, broken teeth, and compression fractures in her back. But it doesn’t end here. On June 2, 2007, a driver who was later arrested on felony drunk driving, hit and run and vehicular manslaughter killed Simon Alviar-Leyva, 41. The fatal bicycle accident occurred on Adams Avenue west of Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa.
