• Describe a situation of public interest in which critical and/or creative thought could have been used for a better outcome. Describe why it is important that leaders think critically and Creative and critical thinking is what helps people have better actions.
If one thinks thoughtfully and intently that can allow them to pursue actions that would benefit them self. Most poor actions derive from carelessness, the lack of planning and thinking critically and creatively. Personal reflection/ evaluation usually involve some form of these thinking so time for reflection is the key to avoiding mishaps. In this past week, YouTuber Logan Paul has been under criticism for showing a suicide victims dead body in one of his blogs. He showed a man

All creative/critical thinking is thinking in a certain way that allows the best outcomes to happen. But this is much easier said than done because if all people just used their creative/critical thinking so many things could be prevented and changed. The reason why this way of thinking can’t be reached by all in every situation is because there are factors or hindrances that prevent people from being able to access this way of thinking. The most evident hindrance is time. If you don’t have time to think, you usually just act. Because in life unexpected things happen daily, not having enough time to process situations can lead to people acting blindly. On the contrary, having too much time can also affect your thinking because spending so much time thinking of how you want to handle things can make you second guess yourself and that won’t work to your benefit. Another hindrance is stress. Many people are overwhelmed by their lives and sometimes cannot manage to do everything the need. If a person is stressed their attention is constantly divided for the many things they need to worry about and that can affect their critical/creative thinking because they would not be able to think when their mind is preoccupied. The third factor that might alter your critical/creative thinking is emotion. Emotions range from various different things but something consistent about emotions are that they all …show more content…
They have to make their product appeal to consumers with specific wording and appealing illustrations. For example, fast-food companies’ commercial use thin models to advertise their fat filled food to trick the mind into thinking that even beautiful, thin people enjoy their product. Using a thin movie star eating the product may twist consumer perception of the brand and what they may look like after they are eating it. If they were to place a heavier person in their commercials that might scare off customers because they will believe that eating that would might result in them gaining weight (which is probably what will happen). This perception through advertising works to encourage more demand for the product resulting in more money for Company. In this study intended to test whether “movie tie-in premiums accompanying unhealthy fast food meals the influenced children’s meal preferences and their perceptions of these meals,” (Dixon and et. al. 2017). Even though we know that the true characteristics of the product is not good for us, the perception of a product can be impressionable. Also another way for companies to make more money is to know their audience. If a company targets their demographic then they will be more effective. For example, when I watch football I see all these beer companies making their commercial appealing to consumer tastes, desires,
Eric Schlosser argues that marketing to children is the easiest and most strategic way to meet sales forecasts. In his book Fast Food Nation, Schlosser states that, “eight year olds are considered ideal customers; they have about sixty-five years of purchasing in front of them.” Children are extremely malleable and easily influenced as they are forming their habits, opinions, and tastes. When companies market to kids, it is likely that the child will continue to purchase from that company as they grow up. The fast food industry greatly relies on its familiarity and consistency.
“Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko is an article that argues that the fast-food industry is at fault for the rising rates of obesity and health care, not the consumers because they advertise and market cheap meals without mentioning the negative nutrition information. It is in some ways no different than the tobacco industry, in which they sell cheap and unhealthy food without offering information that is easy to read and comprehend. Zinczenko claims that “Fast-food companies are marketing to children a product with proven health hazards and no warning labels” (464). The author insists that the fast-food industry is primarily at fault for the health problems related to obesity in the United States. This assertion seems legitimate and
The truth is that the corporation makes decisions that they want people to make, whether it is to buy a new tv or go to a certain school. The corporations are able to determine what advertisements each person will have. Similarly, media serves the same purpose today. Harvard researchers found “marketers have been able to gain unprecedented insight into consumers and serve up solutions tailored to their individual needs” (John). Everything people search can be seen and used by marketers to customizes advertisements.
Critical thinking is a high level of cognitive skills that helps us communicate and understand things effectively. In the You Tube video "Stossel Testing Therapeutic Touch," I found it was really interesting how the participants were given a placebo and yet most of them felt all these beneficial sleep changes. The power of the mind is amazing because if you believe it will work most likely you will feel that it did. My mother has all these crazy beliefs and I recall when I was bout 8 years old a bee stung me on my hand. I was crying and my mom told me if I wanted to get rid of the pain I had to get a pregnant woman to rub sugar on the wound.
With using constant commercials to drill the brand into the viewers causing the brain to recognize their logos and go to them. Companies are greedy as well through market share of the commercials. Example of one scenarios is the super bowl commercials. They run for 5-minute commercial sometimes less and reach billions of viewers during that time. The costs of these slot are so high the smaller companies cannot compete with theses corporate companies and the cumulative effect takes place.
Daniel Weintraub argues in his article,”The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home,” about who is to blame for children obesity. Weintraub is telling parents that they are the ones that can fix this problem, not the government, food companies, or the video-game manufacturers. I agree with Weintraub. How are children supposed to know how much is too much. The commercials don’t tell the kids not to eat too much of their product or they’ll get obese.
The ability to think is an innate action that, for the most part, all people possess. Nonetheless, not everybody has the ability or knowledge of how to develop this quality into something greater and beneficial. Critical thinking is not inherent; rather the skills necessary to think analytically must be learned and practiced with an open mind. It involves listening with the intent of understanding others, drawing conclusions based on strong evidence and asking curiously about the situation. Not only must one be willing to evaluate a situation slowly and thoroughly, but one must also respect the views of others and accept the possibility of being wrong.
Advertisements are an integral part of everyday life; we see them so often that we have become immune to their presence. We see advertisements while driving on the highway, watching TV, or just simply listening to the radio. As a matter of fact, the clothes that we wear on a daily basis are advertisements of the product that we have purchased. Companies understand that in order to sell their product, they must make the product appeal to several different types of consumers. These companies use market segmentation in order to cater to different consumers.
Perception is the organisation, identification and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. Like perception, logic plays a role in critical thinking. Critical thinking is the process in which one mentally explores deeper than the superficial matters at hand into the deeper layers in order to find out what the real issues are. However, when it comes to weighing their beneficial impact on the critical thinking process, logic and perception are by no means equal. While logic is firmly rooted in reason, perceptions are just as firmly rooted in one’s senses and can easily be corrupted.
“The general public apparently believes subliminal advertising exists” (Broyles 393) however, what effects, if any, are there to the people that view them? There is a belief that companies can influence our behavior in life to the extent where they can, in part, remove the consumers ' choice in their purchases. The idea of advertising firms crafting advertisements with hidden messages that influence the audience to shop at stores, buy a certain product or even which foods we ingest is common in contemporary culture. David Zinczenko addresses many concerns about the marketing and health impacts of the fast food industry in his article, “Don’t Blame the Eater”. Zinczenko says is directly, “Fast-Food companies are marketing to children a product

On the other hand, I believe some companies create consumer demand with the unsuspecting target group falling for it. This can sometimes manifest itself in people purchasing products and using services with the belief that it will make them popular, beautiful or even wealthy. In western-society, it appears that it is more attractive for a woman to have a thin and slim figure than other other body shape. Hence, there are many advertisements geared towards losing weight and keeping in
The article pointed to the several researches defining critical thinking skills. If I was taught 20 years ago what I know now. I am sure I would have been more prepared with the knowledge and skills of framing my mind to the critical thinking skills. Putting the skills and knowledge and applying them to my younger life. The article describes critical thinking as many different observations of one’s worldview.
Have You Been Brain Washed? Have you ever looked at an advertisement and pictured yourself using the product that was being advertised, to than actually being interested in purchasing that product? Well that was their goal, advertisers have mastered the market industry by being aware of the fact that us humans are very concerned with our image. Advertisers know that we have a greater chance of buying a product if we can picture ourselves how we would like to be portrayed of course with the help of their product. In ads, companies want to provide an image that can be relatable to the viewers and what would want to appeal to them.
There is not far antagonism to this theory. This could be because it is extensively consented that we cannot be creative if we are distracted by supplementary
