Summary of Literature Draft Ray Bradbury, the author of many books including Fahrenheit 451, was born on August 22, 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois. He was one of the first authors to incorporate science fiction with a prose style. This sophisticated prose was described as economical yet poetic. His contributions to American literature earned him numerous awards, including a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation in 2007. He began writing during the 40s as a writer for pulp magazines. With the publication of The Martian Chronicles in 1950 he cemented his reputation as a sophisticated science fiction writer. He wrote on issues pertaining to the post-World War II era (Ray). It takes place in a midwestern city some time after 2022 indicated by the line “We’ve started and won two atomic wars since 2022!”(Bradbury 69). Books are illegal commodities in this world, and the government uses firemen to burn any that are found. The protagonist of this story, Guy Montag, is a fireman who lives a boring monotonous life with his wife Mildred. He begins to question his job and society after meeting his neighbor Clarisse. Montag sees Mildred escape their house with a suitcase and realizes she was probably the one who called the alarm. Captain Beatty orders Montag to burn the house down, and after he finishes Beatty placed him under arrest. The radio Faber had been using to communicate with Montag falls out of his ear, and Captain Beatty snatches it and listens in. Beatty then eggs Montag on, eventually leading to Montag burning captain Beatty alive, and knocking out the other firemen. Montag was pursued by the police and mechanical hounds. He goes to Faber’s house and later escapes after jumping into a river, and floating away from the city. Montag continues his journey on land and sees a fire in the distance. It is here Montag meets a group of rebels who have memorized books and plan to rebuild society through their knowledge. In light of the war, which could begin at any minute they are forced to move south. They witness a nuclear attack on the city, and decide they must return to the city and help how they can. Fahrenheit 451 is a novel written by Ray Bradbury that is set in the future, telling a story of a time where books and thinking by yourself are banned and frowned upon. In a time so dark, where people who want to improve their own being by thinking for themselves, are eventually apprehended and killed. Books and evidence of self-thinking are demolished, books are burned to a crisp, whereas ideas becomes a danger to society. In the story, Bradbury uses a bunch of literary techniques. He especially uses rhetorical devices with Beatty as he uses them to try and get his message through to Montag.
Whether you are aware of it or not, you have probably read a book by Ray Bradbury or a book that has been influenced by him. In fact, most students to read a number of his readings (including Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, and The Illustrated Man) as part of the required curriculum. Ray Bradbury shows the reader several negative and positive effects technology has on mankind, he also accomplish several phenomenon about his life. Ray Bradbury, American novelist, short story writer, screenwriter and poet, was born August 22, 1920 in Waukegan, illinois. He graduated from Los Angeles high school in 1938.
In the beginning of the novel, the author, Ray Bradbury, introduced us to a world where books were forbidden. Guy Montag, a fireman, did not help save burning homes instead he burnt them. In this futuristic way of thinking, everyday life revolved around television and people thought books brought unhappiness therefore they sent firemen out to burn homes that contain books. Montag thoroughly enjoyed watching the seemingly meaningless books turn to ashes.
Fahrenheit 451 is a novel written by Ray Bradbury, which was published in 1953. The novel features a future American society, where books are outlawed and so called “firemen” burn any that is in sight. The book focuses around a man by the name of Guy Montag. Montag is a third generation fireman. He soon realizes the importance and enjoyment of having books around and suddenly tries to concoct a plan to keep books around, without getting caught.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is an exciting dystopian future book. The book takes place in a rich American city sometime in the distant future. It involves a “fireman” but the fireman of this time actually start fires. In this time all books are illegal so the fireman goes to the houses (which all have fireproofing) and burn all the books. This fireman has been taking home books for years and the chief is finding out.

Ray Bradbury lead the rise of the science fiction genre with his short stories and novels. Unlike many other science fiction writers who embraced the advancement of technology, Ray wrote several books which told of futures where technology had, in his eyes, ruined society. In his first novel, Fahrenheit 451, he tells of a society of illiterate, materialistic drones that sit and watch TV all day. Ray foreshadowed that television would soon take over people’s lives and kill off literacy.

Chloe Lohman Professor Davis Comp II June 27, 2023 Irony, Renewal, and Rebellion Ray Bradbury is celebrated for his profound exploration of themes in his literary works of fiction. “Fahrenheit 451” is possibly one of his most memorable works of fiction. Although it is short, there is still quite a lot to unfold within this book. Ray Bradbury was also against his label of a “science fiction writer” going as far as to say, “First of all, I don't write science fiction. I've only done one science fiction book and that's Fahrenheit 451, based on reality.
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the setting of the book takes place during some time in the future and it tells us about this society that is really similar to ours. The book follows Guy Montag, who is a fireman who burns down people’s houses for having books, who meets a teenage girl called Clarisse McClellan who opens his eyes to the world around him and how things are really lonely. Montag’s wife Mildred and everyone else in his city is attached to this thing called the Parlor and it’s like having TV’s all over the walls in the place that they are at.
