Today, Christopher Columbus is primarily viewed as an important historic figure
and a hero for his famous voyages in the 1400’s. However, many people to this day
still debate whether he should be known as a hero or a villain. In my opinion,
Christopher Columbus should not be considered a hero. A hero is somebody who
performs good deeds for the sake of others, and not for their own benefit.
Christopher Columbus just wanted to find gold and riches for himself and the
country of Spain. I believe he is a villain because he took full advantage of the
Arawak community. He treated the Arawak’s terribly using them as slaves and he
wiped out the entire community.
In October of 1492, when Christopher Columbus stepped foot on the Island

As their kind and nurturing nature, they traded everything
they owned. Christopher saw how naive this community was and instantly thought
just how great they would be as slaves. Although the Arawak’s outnumbered
Columbus and his men by a large amount, the Arawak’s believed in peace, and were
not at the same military level. They had never been exposed to weapons before; they
were not able to stand up for themselves, “I showed them a sword and they took it
by the edge and cut themselves out of ignorance”. (1) Columbus’s main goal of this
voyage was to find gold; “It led Columbus to take some of them aboard his ship as
prisoners because he insisted that they guide him to the source of the gold.” (1) This
shows Columbus’s ignorance towards other people and his use of a militaristic
approach due to capturing innocent people. Columbus has not only caused problems
in his era but also to this day. Today Natives are still constantly struggling socially
because they have been overlooked for so long, some could argue beginning first
with Columbus and Colonization.
In September of 1493, when Columbus set sail for his second voyage, he became
much more aggressive towards the Arawak’s since he had already captured
The Natives were killed by the European diseases, and after enduring this they were then forced into European law through the Economedia system. Without his discovery, this may have been avoided or handled in a more careful way. Also, Christopher Columbus had many accounts of rape, as well as murder. He wasn’t the only man committing either of these atrocities, but his fame brings these faults
Christopher columbus is worthy because he made a lasting impact on the world. One reason is he brought back crops and discovered them. Another reason is the population increased. The crops that columbus brought back were Tobacco, Cocoa, Coffee, Bananas, Rice, and Oranges. The way the population increased was he told europe about america.
Columbus: Hero or Villain Columbus had decided to bring the Spaniards back to the West Indies and Killed Indians. Columbus has been known as the founder of North America and greatest hero. Is Christopher Columbus really a hero Legend has it that Christopher Columbus had stacked babies on a pole and killed them. Many Arawaks feared Columbus because the Arawaks went ahead and killed their babies. With these few details, is Christopher Columbus actually a hero?
I believe Christopher Columbus is a villain. I think he is a villain, because he forced the Native Americans out of their homelands while bringing other pilgrims and diseases back with him. Columbus discovered the Americas by accident, but he wasn't the first one to discovered it. Although, he took all of the credit which, was very greedy of him. King Ferdinand and Queen Elizabeth funded Christopher Columbus’ voyages only because Columbus promised them land, riches, and spices.
Is Christopher Columbus a hero or villain? That's a question that verias people are debating,I strongly believe he was warrior,he was widely known as an explorer and for surviving the vile winds of the atlantic ocean. Daring to succeed to accomplish his four voyages and opening new trade routes. He was a commercialist, meaning he had practices, methods, aims, and spirit of free enterprise geared toward generating profit. Wealth and power belonged to traders who plied the route characterised by Columbus. He exchanged language, food, animals and crops that the europeans and the native americans didn’t know about.
Why We Shouldn’t Celebrate Columbus Day By Maximos Politis While it is true that Christopher Columbus discovered America, he was also known for being a rapist, murderer, slave owner, and tyrant. Some people think that Columbus Day should be celebrated and others do not. Columbus kidnapped people and enslaved them and was a rapist. Christopher Columbus was a rapist and a murderer. 56 years after Columbus’s first voyage, only 500 out of 300,000 Indians remained on Hispaniola.
Goodbye Columbus: The Real Meaning Behind The Holiday Some see Christopher Columbus as an iconic explorer, who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to prove a simple point of a round Earth. Even more people see Columbus as the heartfelt founder of the New World. However, there are few that see Columbus as an invader, liar and murderer.
Also, it was later decided that he participated in genocide, and he was even said to be worse than Hitler. After reading all of this, I found it most interesting that he never intended to kill the Indians, although his actions were never documented to prove this was against his cause. All of my life, I was taught that Columbus was a
Columbus – Hero or Villain Many school teachers nowadays teach their students not to honor Christopher Columbus, but to shun him. This is wrong in so many ways. Many people decide not to honor Columbus because he abuses the Native Americans while on his journey in the Americas. What many people forget, though, because they live such comfortable lives here in the United States, is that Columbus had courage.
When the Europeans began settling in the new land many cultural differences began to arise. Consequently, this left the English settlers and the natives with fear and confusion. The natives of the new land had never seen anything like the Europeans; they had white skin, huge ships, dressed differently, and they had many different weapons. Christopher Columbus in his narrative, Report of the First Voyage, described them as “timid beyond cure” (“Report of the First Voyage” 18). He also stated that when he would men ashore to contact the natives “people without number have come to them, and as soon as they saw them coming, they fled; even a father would not stay for his son” (“Report of the First Voyage” 18).
I think that Christopher Columbus was a good and bad guy. He was truly good to his people, the people that he lead. If you were one to follow
Columbus Day is celebrated in recognition of Columbus “discovering” America in 1492. Many consider him a hero for that one reason but don’t acknowledge what he did when he first reached America. I personally believe Columbus is not worthy of being called a hero for various reasons. One of the reasons is that Columbus killed millions of native Americans because of his lust for gold. The native Americans were kind and generous towards Columbus and his men, but he enslaved them and forced them to do his dirty work for him.
Some say Christopher Columbus was a hero because he was the explorer that discovered America. In reality, Christopher Columbus had an incredibly negative impact on the world because he enslaved the Native Americans, didn’t help the kind Natives when they got infected by diseases that the Spaniards had brought to America, and killed off most of the Native American population. The tactics he chose to use were violent and destructive by the standards back then and now. First, Columbus treated the Native Americans like uncivilized people by enslaving them and forcing them to work for him although they greeted him and his crew peacefully. ” They could make fine servants,”(document 2) he wrote in his journal,”I took them by force.
