If teachers do not have the time to make more than one assignment for students to have options they could start by giving small modifications so the workload isn't so heavy or giving the student a tip how to adapt classwork and worksheets. A tip could range from underline and highlight important information or suggest folding the paper showing the part they are working on the student could use a separate piece of paper to cover the parts they aren't working on. This strategy may reduce chances for disruptions and help with the short attention keep students on task. Adolescents with ADHD may qualify for special education services if they are eligible for another IDEA category, such as emotional disturbance or specific learning disability, but the children with ADHD are not disaggregated from students without ADHD in these categories."small classes of approximately 8 to 15 students have been beneficial for younger children and children with special needs Because children with ADHD are reported to do better with one-on-one instruction, smaller class size makes intuitive sense. One of the most common accommodations that can be made to the physical environment of the classroom involves determining where a child with ADHD will sit. Seat the student with ADHD near the teacher, a student role model or assign the student a seat near or have a low-distraction work area. The seating assignment gives opportunities for you to monitor and reinforce the child’s on-task behavior. “Everyone wants to have friends, but making friends is hard for kids with ADHD” (Taylor, Blake E. S., 73). Once Blake makes a friend, he feels like he achieved something great, as any child would. “Having one friend was an accomplishment for an ADHD kid like me” (Taylor, Blake E. S., 67). At first, Aki, Blake’s best friend when he was 10 years old, does not care that Blake has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
The first symptoms that might occur is the teacher might complained the child is daydreaming. Since a child with ADHD has a lot of trouble concentrating their minds might began to wonder about. The second symptom that represents is forgets or loses things a lot their minds wonder so much they cannot keep track of the time or of their daily routines. According to Lavoie:”About 10-20 percent of those with ADHD are the hyperactive-impulsive type. The most common type of ADHD, though, is a combined inattentive and hyperactive type” (Lavoie, pg. 45). The hyperactive-impulsive type is the one most commonly associated with academic troubles. This is also widely believed to be the more common type of ADHD. While the school system cannot mandate a parent place their child on ADHD medicine there is still a fair amount of pressure felt by parents/caregivers to do so once their child is diagnosed with ADHD.

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, more well-known as ADHD, is a disorder that affects 9% of children in the U.S. When left untreated, ADHD can lead the sufferer to be unable to cope in school or socially and possibly leads to depression. A lot of times people will think it doesn’t truly exist, and that there are some people out there who are just naturally energetic. But, when you look at what ADHD means, “” ADHD” stands for “Attention Deficit Disorder”. Symptoms include hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and inability to pay attention, manage frustration, stay organized, or focus on tasks.” (NCPC. 2012 – 2017). Although, it may be more common within children, it is still very common within adult as well, which makes it hard for many aspects within life such as work and school.
Students and Accommodations 1. Identify current classroom accommodations for students with disabilities. Current classroom accommodations that are in place consist of: • Assigned seating for those who need less distractions • A curriculum and teaching style that caters to visual, auditory, kinesthetic, verbal, social, and solitary learners. • The classroom has proper lighting, happy and calming colors, and a quiet place to collect yourself.

The CDC also goes on to list the signs and symptoms which are: “daydream a lot, forget or lose things a lot, squirm or fidget, talk too much, make careless mistakes or take unnecessary risk, have a hard time resisting temptation, have trouble taking turns, and have difficulty getting along with others” (CDC, 2017) The way to treat ADHD is a highly debated topic. Many people argue that ADHD is not being overdiagnosed. This is mainly an issue when it comes to children since kids are naturally more energetic and unfocused than adults. Parents and teachers argue that kids are being overdiagnosed just because they are outgoing, and that is how kids should be. The truth of the matter is that many diagnosis of ADHD for kids is very accurate (Haelle para 3). Kids that need treatment are not being treated because people do not understand the accuracy of most diagnosis’s as well as the consequences of ignoring the ADHD.

If one has inattention they tend to wander off task, they lack patience, have limited focus, and are more disorganized. If they have higher rates of hyperactivity they tend more to move about constantly in situations where it is not appropriate, fidget, tap, and talk more than others.
I feel the critics that’s of ADHD that assume it is just a lack of dissipline only need to spend some time with a child suffering from ADHD to know it is infact a very real thing.
