“So you’ll read to him from one of your books, and he’ll ask to see the pictures. When he looks at the pictures, he’ll get so excited he’ll want to draw one of his own.” This quote is from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff, and my first memory of exposure to the written word. My parents would read this to me at night before going to bed. This is when I realized that reading and writing are important pieces of the life puzzle, and are very important in building a strong foundation. Even the mouse knew it was important and would be hungry for more. But in today’s society actual hand-written books are being replaced with virtual literature. The information is still the heart of media, but the presentation is very different, …show more content…
In middle school, I was given several assignments similar to the one Mrs. Giet had given. However, these subsequent assignments did not have the restriction of using only books for research. My next activities allowed use of the Internet for gathering data. When I set out on my quest for information, I would begin with my assigned topic, but there was so much information coming my way. For example, I was searching for information on “World War 2” and that search led me to a link about the Cold War, which then led me down the path to the race to space between Russia and America. So much information available, and it was very intriguing. This was the first time I can strongly remember using the Internet to look up information that I was interested in. It was not just an assignment for school, but rather something just for …show more content…
It can be collected in mass quantities with the click of a mouse. Prior to the World Wide Web, if you saw or heard something you wanted to know more about, you would have to look it up in a book and more than likely that would lead you to another book, and so forth; much like the Internet leads you to multiple sites. The Internet has paved the road of curiosity for me, making it easy to learn more than I would ever be able to with the use of books alone. Clearly everything has its advantages and disadvantages. It is amazing and wonderful to have so much information readily available, but it is easy to manipulate information on the Internet. That is not the case with a written version of any account. Also it takes a long time to get the information into circulation via a hard copy to the world. Overall, the Internet has proven to be a valid source of information, as long as you are willing to verify on multiple sites the data you are looking for. In the spirit of giving a mouse a cookie, the Internet provides as many cookies as I could ever
Literary devices used in Of Mice and Men include, foreshadowing, motif, and symbolism. The novel includes foreshadowing when George talks to Slim about how Lennie got them kicked out of Weed, it is foreshadowing for when Lennie inevitably will mess something up. This effects the story because it leads to Lennie makes a huge mistake by killing Curley’s wife, which leads to George killing Lennie. The book shows motif because there is Recurring events of violence are shown throughout the story, to form a motif. The impact this has on the story is Influential because Curley fought Lennie, Carlson killed Candy’s dog, and George kills Lennie.
The focus of my essay is Nicolas Carr's article "Is Google Making Us Stupid? What the Internet is doing to Our Brains". In this paper Nicolas Carr talks of how people have been made lazy by the Internet with its readily available information; everything is at our fingertips and we no longer have to work for any information. And he talks about how people have become stupid by not needing to learn anything as the internet has it all there for us
Chapter 5 of John Steinback’s book, Of Mice and Men, vividly depicts Lennie immersing in a world of anger, sorrow, and worry after he tragically killed a little puppy. Lennie strategically employs passive voice to mask his responsibility for the dead puppy and his word choice shows his ambivalence towards the puppy. It’s evident that Lennie goes through a spectrum of emotions. Chapter 5 starts out with Lennie mournfully “[Stroking the dog] clear from one end to the other” (85).
In the 21st-century, looking for information that is in a book has become a thing of the past. Taking sometimes non-reliable snippet in the 21st-century, looking for information that is in a book has become a thing of the past. Taking sometimes non-reliable snippets if easier, and is what people do. This makes the brain slow down, and makes people brainless. It is integrated into people 's ' brains to become more fish and, and only look at certain things.
Alex Astilean Mrs.Cavanaugh English 11 / period 1 “are dreaming men haunted men” this statement is valid because most men that are dreaming are dreaming of unrealistic things or goals this results in them being haunted because this unrealistic thing or goal is replaying in their minds constantly, though this thing or goal can be realistic and this dream can be strived for by most people. Two works of literature that support this quote is of Mice & Men by john steinbeck and Hamlet by William shakespeare. The authors use of imagery and setting supports the interpretation of the quote. “are dreaming men haunted men” This quote embodies the lives of the characters in Of Mice & Men substantially, how come ?
“In a dark time, the eye begins to see…” -Theodore Roethke For some people, losing everything is the only way they will truly appreciate what they once had. In the 1930’s The Great Depression began the Americas economy crashed. People lost their homes, their jobs, and most of their belongings due to an extreme rise in prices.
We have read two books this year: ´Of mice and men´ and ´The curious incident of the dog in the night-time’. The books differ a lot, however they also share some similarities. ´ Of mice and men´ is about two men, named Lennie and George, who live in the time of the Great depression. They are looking for a job, but this isn’t easy because Lennie is mentally disabled so George needs to look after him the whole time.
Literary Analysis – Of Mice and Men (Theme) John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men is a novel that illustrates the uninviting nature of human existence. This small novella from 1992 tells the story of two, improbable friends and their journey during the dark days of the Great Depression. Through out the story, the reader notices the isolation and loneliness that most of the characters face at least once in their lives. Mostly, the major themes reflect the American Dream, many of the characters’ broken plans and the dynamics of male friendship.
Many of those who criticize videogames do this by comparing them to books. This comparison is seen as injurious and incorrect to author Steven Johnson. He believes the two are separate from each other and should not be looked at as one in the same. In his essay “Games” he outlines and argues that reading and gaming are different from each other, that both should be valued in their own way, and that books are crafted for and are better at expressing knowledge and opinion. A book and a video game are more unalike than many are willing to believe; they are both completely different mediums.
It has a book, thesaurus, stores, social media, and food websites. It provides anything possible. The internet is improving and making human life easier. Also many people who are ill don 't seek help from the doctors they usually search their symptoms and treat themselves. If you 're in need for a recipe we go one the internet rather than looking through the cookbooks.
The wind was wisping through the people filled streets of Soledad, in the distance George and Slim were trodding towards the saloon. “There’s the place,” Slim announced with a sigh of relief. “Finally,” said George. When Slim and George stepped into the saloon they were greeted by the warm, but boisterous environment.
People are not always there to help you make the correct decision and in “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck , George realizes that. George has always felt obligated to support his cousin Lennie. Lennie is unable to make good decisions for himself. George comes to the understanding he won't always be there to support Lennie. George has been committed to being there for Lennie his entire life.
I believe that the writer of this book wanted to let the reader know how important smart rats are. How important the things that they do are. The writer just seems well connected with the smart rats. To him the smart rats just seem to be like his pets, and well they do treat them like there pets. The smart rants do seam like a creative solution to an existing problem.
Per my curiosity I have reached the deep web and just
Fortunately, there are many different kinds of thing that the internet affected education. Making the right match between internet and education is significant to helping best educate people. Internet has changed the way students learn whether in the positive or negative way. Many people still do not know how the internet has affected education. Several reasons why the Internet affects education are that it is easy to research information, online schools, social media and it is easy to plagiarism.
