Imperialism allows countries to extend their power through a policy and influence through diplomacy or military force. The late nineteenth century was known as the “Age of Imperialism” a time when the United States rapidly expanded, defending many countries with not enough power to defend for themselves. United States was on a specific world mission to spread liberty and democracy. Along the way America came across China and it’s valuable resources, U.S. could trade for. Imperialism is a positive policy for the U.S.A. because it enlarges trade, helps weaker countries allowing them to spread culture, and expands industry.
One of the main reasons is it enlarged trade with other countries. According to Document 1 the Map, trade was enlarged by imperialism. The main country U. S. wanted to trade was with China, because there were chances they would be able to trade with the other countries and become partners. There were also, many valuable resources in China that U. S. needed. If the U.S. was able to control the islands Hawaii, Guam, Japan, and Philippines that were between them and China they would be able to trade faster and easier.

was able to rescue weak countries which allowed them to spread their culture. The weak countries were able to be rescued from oppression. In document 3, a picture was shown where on the top the countries were in rags before being rescued. Then, on the bottom it showed the same countries but, dressed as businessmen and this was after they were rescued by the U. S. After United States went and fought for the weak countries these countries were able to regain their balance. While the U. S. was there they showed them the different aspects of their culture. This would influence some to give there’s up and start this culture instead, because they would want to be like the people that made their lives
Imperialism is when a stronger, larger nation dominates a smaller or weaker nation politically, economically, and socially. Imperialism increased in the 19th century due to industrialization. European industry increased there need for cheaper raw materials and massive markets to sell new, finished products. Europeans also dominated the world with their advanced military weapons, to dominate Africa and other south pacific areas. The powder keg was a huge contribution to all the chaos leading up to the destruction of world war one caused.
The Boxer Rebellion was an uprising that took place in 1898-1990 from the Chinese society against U.S Foreigners and as a result, the United States interfered and their interference was backed up with reasons and and resulted in many outcomes. The U.S involvement was needed in the Boxer Rebellion for its strong, united military aid and resources. The United States during the early twentieth-century was a heated debate. Constant changes including World War One, the Spanish-American War, and the idea that the United States would join the League of Nations would lead to major debates determining what role the United States should have taken during the constant changing world. This essay is here to go into detail about what the United States should have done during this time period as well as highlight some of the outcomes from a more progressive nation. Imperialism is defined as “The use of diplomatic or military force to extend a nation’s power and enhance its economic interests, often by acquiring territory or colonies and justifying the behavior with assumptions of racial superiority”
Despite imperialism being unconstitutional and undemocratic, American Imperialism was an economic necessity to further commerce. China had all the customers, and for the U.S. to be economically successful they needed to improve their naval power. This need brought on the Panama Canal, as Roosevelt wanted to save both time and money for commercial and military shipping. On top of this, the U.S. also took interest in Cuba -- not for territory, but for the trade and military opportunities that would spring up. From aiding the Cubans, the U.S. gained territory in Puerto Rico (which was useful as a naval base), Guam, and the Philippines.
Imperialism was a controversial idea that a nation can extend its power outward through means of diplomatic or military force. This often results in a shift of power from one major force currently in control to another. The people of that nation under control conflict may also experience wars, rebellions, or cultural destruction. Looking at some of these events, we see some positives and negatives of imperialistic action taken by the United States, and how it affected the nations imperialized by the United States. For starters, let’s look at Hawaii’s annexation.
Throughout the turn of the 19th Century a big question was raised among the American people and their leaders, was America going to become an Imperialist state or not? The question was not really raised previously during the 1800’s. The people of America were previously occupied colonizing its own land and settling towns throughout the area. However, once they reached the end of their exploration, which ended at the Pacific Ocean, where would they go? Should they start to colonize other islands around the world, or shall they be content in their own little world?
Throughout the 20th century the United States would soon develop into a superpower, for example events like the Berlin Airlift which consisted of supplies being brought from America to berlin promoted democracy. Although this is just one event that shows that the the United States is a promoter of freedom throughout the world during the 20th century, they are also different events that occured to provide evidence that the united states is as well a defender and promoter in and out of the state. The United States developed into the promoter and defender of democracy throughout the 20th century by American Imperialism, promote world peace, and enforcing equality among citizens. America imperialism is just one piece that illustrates the promotion
This country was important to the US because they wanted to station navel bases and refueling stations, used by ships traveling the Pacific Ocean. At the time, US citizens immigrated to Hawaii with the goal to quickly overthrow the government they had in place. Two groups, missionaries and businessmen went and helped planters overthrow queen Liliuokalani in order to gain access to their sugar and pineapple. In the end Hawaii gave the US a port allowing them to stop on the way to trade with Asian countries, further opening the door of trade for America. At this point in time China was at the top of the charts when it came to productions and sells.
United States Imperialism in the late 19th century was very selfish time. Many people in that time, debated about whether are not benefiting our country was the right way or the wrong way. The motiving factors that impacted our imperialism are economic, military, and cultural. These factors impacted the American Imperialism from 1890-194 by having control over weaker territories meeting our expanding needs.
The 1920s were a time of complete change in the United States. Just coming out of World War I the people wanted change. Warren G. Harding saw that the people wanted change so that is what he talked about in his “Return to Normalcy” speech in 1920. Many people were very pleased with what Harding had to say in this speech. Calvin Coolidge who was Vice President under Harding also gave a speech in 1925 that had similar ideas as Harding’s speech.
Separate countries trade with each other without having to be annexed in another country, so the US took away the Philippines independence and they did not truly profit. In the end, Annexing the Philippines to profit from trade was
They had a few valid reasons to do so. Even if they had many reasons to turn to imperializing, there were three reasons that stood out the most. One of the reasons was to improve the economy by using these newly achieved nations to their advantage. Another reason was the desire of improving their Army in order to compete with other nation's Army. The final reason was that they thought they were a superior culture and other nations had to be like them.
Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama are all on the list of island the U.S are interested in From the evidence shown above this shows that imperialism is not the best option. Although it could lead to the spreading of U.S commerce it does not follow our constitution, it could lead to tyrant like behavior, and could lead to conflicts with other countries that might also be imperialist
Exploitation is wrong, but there have been multiple times in history where men have “justified” exploitation with progress and expansion. The real question is if their claims were entirely true. In the past, America used its power to exploit, conquer, and gain a foothold in foreign continents like Asia. Some may think that America’s exploitation was completely unjust, while others think that exploitation was needed for progress. America’s exploitation during imperialism was definitely unjust.
What is imperialism? Imperialism is an approach to expand a nation’s power and their influences over other lands.
