1.The Intolerable Acts was a term used by the American Patriots' due to a series of laws passed by the British after the Boston Tea party. The acts were also known as the Coercive Acts in Great Britian. The acts were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their part in the Boston Tea Party.
2. The Townshend Acts were a series of acts passed, by British Parliament, relating to the British colonies in North America. The purpose of the acts was to raise funds to pay judges and governors so they would continue to stay loyal to the British. Great Britian was hoping with the judges and governors continuing to stay loyal, they would be able to continue to control the trade regulations. Little did they know, there would be

The Whiskey Rebellion was a tax protest. The whiskey tax was the first of its kind under George Washington, the first president of the United States. Even though the tax was created for all distilled beverages, it primarily involved whiskey, which at the time was the most popular. The tax was created to help off set the cost of the American Revolutionary War.
The newfound tax was met with quite a bit of resistance. Many of the resisters were war veterans. They would resist due to the fact they thought they were fighting the same things that caused the American Revolution, no taxation without local representation. It eventually led to the establishing of political parties.
4. Shays' Rebellion is the name of protests by American farmers. The leader of the rebellion was Daniel Shay’s. Daniel would lead thousands of men against the State of Massachusetts, due to what was believed to be unjust economic issues.
Shay’s Rebellion would go on to attempt to capture the largest Armory in the United States, located in Springfield MA. Although the rebellion was defeated it helped promote the call for a stronger national government so future rebellions could be
Last night on February 4, 1787, General Benjamin Lincoln attacked members of the Shays’ Rebellion, and successfully captured 150 of the rebels. As a result, Daniel Shays left Massachusetts and fled to Vermont. Shays Rebellion was an armed rebellion consisting of 1,200 angry farmers from Massachusetts. They caused major chaos in this state. On December 26, 1786 Daniel Shays and the rebels revolted in Springfield, Massachusetts insisting that the state legislature address their issues, such as lack of money.
The colonists were against the British regulatory measures and argued that only their own representative assemblies impose tax them. Thus John Hancock joined colonist and the Revolutionary War started
On the other hand, the government had reasons to why they needed to put down the rebellion. One of the reasons behind why the government battled against the rebellions was because they felt as though the farmer had bad intentions and were attempting to gain more power. Also, they were simply trying to shield the courthouses from any sorts of destruction. As a result, some rebellions, unfortunately, were killed or wounded. However, I would still consider them to be on the wrong side since they were basically taking money from individuals until they didn 't have anything left.
What took place in Massachusetts during the years 1786 through 1787 shocked many. Shays’ Rebellion is directly linked to the high taxes and call for debt collection imposed by the government after the American Revolution (Danver 207). A group of newly settled farmers lead by a veteran of the Revolution, Daniel Shays, band together in hopes of changing the future; in hopes of living in a world without the economic injustices they were facing. It even wound up getting the attention of George Washington who stated that the rebellion played an integral role in his decision to attend the Philadelphia Convention (Danver 215). In a letter addressed to General Henry Knox, George Washington expressed his complete and utter shock regarding the recent uprising.
By 1763, taxes were increasing and being used to help with the dept of the French and Indian war (George). Soon, laws were passed that helped regulate taxes, causing tension between officials and colonists because officials clearly wouldn't address these issues. These laws were taxes, like the stamp act which taxed everybody. The French and Indian war caused a huge debt for the British.
Shays Rebellion “The people who have stepped up to demand rights for themselves and others are likely to be put in jails from home.” Why would they be put in jail? What did Shays rebellion do to be put in such a harsh condition? You might be asking these questions, but surprisingly enough, there is plenty of evidence to prove why Shays Rebellion should have been put in jail for their actions. Although many believe that Shays and his followers were freedom-fighters, they were actually rebels because they could have handled the situation better, they were not logical about the situation and they caused many riots.
One of the Best know rebellion leaders is Abraham Lincoln .Well he really isn’t a rebellion leader he took a huge role in rebelling he played the biggest part. especially when he said” I, Abraham Lincoln, president of the United States and commander in chief of the Army and Navy, do hereby declare that on the first day of January, eighteen sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any state then in rebellion against the United States, shall then become and be forever free.” So because of these people we’re
Even though they had just fought a war justified by unreasonable taxes the members of the so called governing body that was head of the U.S. at the moment realized that were necessary to run an economy. While they had no way to pay many of the soldiers their promised money for their service in the Revolutionary War, a large group of soldiers didn’t like having it all reposed when they couldn’t pay for their farms because of the war bonds not being paid to them. This is what led to Shays’ Rebellion masterminded by the former Continental Army Captain Daniel Shays. In a failed attempt to capture the Springfield Armory the former soldiers were met by the Massachusetts Militia where they were quickly defeated by a cannon filled with grapeshot and no musket fire was exchanged. This was a very bad situation for Congress as it pressured them to create a new constitution which is the one we know of
Rebels were congress men who could be also considered as Patriots, and revolutionaries in certain causes. Those rebels, were people from the thirteen colonies, in other words, they were colonists. Their aport in the American history, consisted in the revolutionary process against the British. This was a violent process, since it was a hard revolution with the purpose of independence, which was actually obtained by the Americans on July, 1776, lead by the hand of important characters such as Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Their movement consisted on a republican idealism directed by educated and wealthy men, though, without the help of “ordinary” men such as farmers, lawyers, and merchants, this movement wouldn’t been
Thousands of farmers took up arms against the enforcement of a federal law calling for an excise tax on distilled spirits. It began in 1794 and is known as the Whiskey Rebellion. It signifies the largest organized resistance in opposition of federal authority between the American Revolution and the Civil War. Several of the rebels of the Whiskey Rebellion were prosecuted for treason in what were the first such legal proceedings in the United States (Whiskey Rebellion). The idea of taxation without local representation, was the main controversial argument behind the unfairness of the tax, which was exactly what the Americans had previously fought over.
it was one of Britain's ways to obtain money from the colonists. George Grenville, in 1763, was delegated as the new chancellor. He found a way to make more money by coming up with the Grenville acts. The Proclamation Line Of 1763 didn’t allow settlers to pass the line across the Appalachian Mountains. The Grenville Acts of 1764 and the Stamp act of 1765 were sponsored by Grenville because they were losing money.
Shay’s Rebellions follow the Revolutionary war and how the US fell into a economic crisis, There were a lot of tension due to farmers losing their property to to debt collectors. In January 1787, him and his force were sent to a federal armory at Springfield but it failed due the artillery fire and how it lead to 4 people being killed and 20 people being wounded. Rebellion doesn’t always end up peaceful and it can also show no improvement at.
This is because Shays rebellion took place because the poor farmers were fighting against the outrageous taxes which were leaving them without land and in prison with no means of supplying food for their families. In many states at the time if someone didn't have land they weren't able to vote because in the governments eyes they had no power. These taxes were taking away the farmers land which then also took away their right to vote which left them powerless and made their options pointless. Poor farmers ended up in jail which left their families out on the streets begging for money and a means to survive. Just like the whiskey rebellion farmers were left without a way to supply for their family because the demand of whiskey was way down after the government increase the tax by 25%.
In 1786, there were a series of protests by the name of Shay’s Rebellion led by American farmers who were against state and local enforcement of tax collection and judgements for debts. It is said that during Shay’s Rebellion the rebels tried to capture the federal arsenal at Springfield and harassed leading merchants, lawyers, and supporters of the state government (History.com). Not everyone agrees 100 percent with the government, frequently not even 50 percent agree. Those who do not agree go through extreme measures to be heard by their higher power, so that they can try to change the outcome of what has become of the government's
Intolerable Acts The Intolerable Acts can be viewed as one of the first sparks to the flaming fire of America claiming Independence. The Intolerable Acts, also called the Coercive Acts, were a series of laws passed in 1774 in order to punish the colonies for defying their rule. Four out of five of the Intolerable Acts were directed towards Massachusetts directly and the other was directed at Quebec. All of the Acts were supposed to stop the colonies from defying England’s Rule and show the colonies that England was still in charge.
