When Brown was 55 he moved with his sons to Kansas territory after the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 overrode the Missouri Compromise, which resulted in the strict ban of slavery above a certain latitude. This was a huge deal to both pro-slavery and anti-slavery fighters for before this act was passed the United States only consisted of twenty-two states which were divided among the two groups of fighters. Winning this territory for slavery, or for those against it, could really make a statement. During the settling of Kansas the events of violent acts that occurred during the period (1855) is referred to as “Bleeding Kansas”. Violence pursued throughout the year 1855.
While doing this he helped the lives of many people and animals. Overall looking back on the situation this was all for the best and as long as all of this had a good end that's all that matters it doesn't matter if Cinderella had rude stepsisters and a horrible stepmother because in the end she got her prince and that was all that mattered to her. All that mattered to john brown was slaves to be free. Even if it took a few years and a few lives being spared he finally had a happy ending if only he was alive to see it. And he helped future generations.
John Brown was a good man. He fought for what he believed in and he had good intentions. Brown did the things he did to help free slaves. John Brown was not a terrorist. He was a freedom fighter.
John Brown’s son, John Brown Jr. was the first to decide to head down to Nebraska and become a farmer and a soldier for the war on slavery. John Brown Jr.’s other 4 sons decided to join him, as well as his father’s brother in law. After his son wrote to him one day about how half of the people fighting for freedom were not even armed and there was no military John Brown then decided to join his son in Kansas. This was the beginning to John Brown’s escalation as a radical abolitionist. Almost as soon as John Brown arrived there was blood spilled by a proslavery Virginian who had killed a free state settler after a dispute.
Today some people would say that John Brown is a terrorist, and some people would might say he isn’t. The dictionary’s definition of a terrorist is, “A person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims”. An example of this would be if a man shot about 20 to 35 children because culturally diverse kids were all in the same school together, versus the shooting at Las Vegas. That man was shooting people just to shoot people. Which is why I would say John Brown isn’t a terrorist because, he only killed the slave owners.
Brown grew up in a house that didn’t like people having slaves and was very religious. So every decision’s he made he didn’t regret because he was doing it for god or for the slaves. Everything he did he believed it was a mission from god.
George Fitzhugh claimed that "The Negro slaves of the South are the happiest the freest people in the world." (Document H). John Brown a major person in the fight to end slavery "led a band of 18 men into Virginia to seize the federal arsenal there, distribute the captured arms to slaves in the area, and create a general slave uprising." (Document I).John Brown was executed and the aftermath of his death made tensions rise betwwen the North and South. "
His family believed that there should be no slavery. When John Brown was older he took a vowel to be an abolitionist which means someone who is against slavery. John Brown thought that if he wasn't getting "lucky" pleasing God therefore he wasn't trying to be a perfect young adult. Brown thought if he pleased God he would live for eternity in heaven. So John wanted
The creation of the emancipation proclamation and reconstruction period offered hope to those who were once slaves. Essentially, the end of this treatment led to the loss of a strong capital for plantation owners. Reconstruction became a mission for white southerners to redeem the south and the beginning of a new labor force (Jelks). Post emancipation gave ‘freed’ people false hope and made them fight with strength to make their imprint on the world. James Brown, the King of Soul, went through life experiencing criminalization, labor, self-help, religion, politics and fear similar to that of his ‘freed’ counterparts.
As John Brown once said “I have only a short time to live, only one death to die,and I will die fighting for this cause. There would be no peace in the land until slavery is done for. ”What John Brown meant by this was he will make any sacrifices just so slavery can come to an end. John Brown is an important figure in American history because he would even go as far as dying just to achieve his goal. John Brown was born on May 9,1800 in Torrington Connecticut.
Looking at what he has fought for, it’s no doubt that he fought for a noble cause which is the freedom of slavery. John Brown shouldn’t be known as hero or terrorists because of want he has done applies to both sides. John Brown shouldn’t be known as a terrorist or a national hero because of his violent attack and raids. After, September 11, 2001 John Brown has been called a terrorist which has caused controversy about Brown’s legacy and reputation. Furthermore, in the article, The 9/11 of 1859 says, “He led 21 men all but two in their 20s, and many of them radicalized by guerilla fighting in Bleeding Kansas, the abolitionists’ Afghanistan”(Horowitz).
John Brown was a key figure in the Underground Railroad, a network of secret routes and safe houses used by slaves in the 19th century to escape to freedom in the North. Brown believed that slavery was a moral abomination and was willing to use violence to end it. He led a raid on the federal armory at Harpers Ferry, Virginia in 1859 in an attempt to spark a slave rebellion. The raid failed, and Brown was captured and later executed. However, his actions helped to galvanize the abolitionist movement and ultimately contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War.
I agree with John Brown. I do not believe that a peaceful and nonviolent solution existed. This is for one of many reasons. The first of which, is that people are greedy. The Southern plantation owners loved their way of living.
Over the history of the United States, there have been many attempts of terrorism on our soil, many through domestic roots. One such political quarrel that marked the radicalization of the American public far enough to bring about terrorism were on the terms of certain legislations, the concept of abolitionism and anti-abolitionism. Legislations like the Missouri Compromise, and Fugitive Slave act were very controversial to the general public, both in the North and South. At this time, many abolitionists chose to perform pacifist demonstrations rather than violent conflict to achieve their dream. Generation of sentiment against slavery culmunated in John Brown was a calculated terrorist as he used extreme forms of violence against the populus
Also, many Texans believed that abolitionists were constantly trying to interfere with slavery. Abolitionists were always suspected of causing trouble, so as a result they had to be careful. The same story related to the supposed attempt of an African American child trying to blow up some houses in the Weekly Telegraph claimed that, it was likely that the African American child was helped out by white people. There were abolitionists in the town who willingly helped African Americans.
