Our client requires a statistics board so players can view their general progress accumulated over all their games. In addition, other players may also see their opponent’s statistics to assess their play style. By playing the online version of Quoridor, we gained an insight in to how the game implements statistics. Games played, victories, losses, rankings and achievements are some of the key player statistics. Our research suggests that it is imperative that we develop a strong player profile system, to ensure that statistics can be implemented. It is equally important to consider how statistics are handled. In Quoridor online, player experience is determined by player rankings, games played, victories and losses. Whilst player ranking is enough to suggest player experience, the statistics also show player ability. This is informative to other players, who can gain some idea of who they are playing against. We decided that a useful solution would be a token system, where game pieces can be unlocked and used. Unlockable tokens would be rewarded for good progress in the game. To understand the concept behind unlockable characters, we read an article identifying ways for players to unlock characters in the game Super Smash Bros. One way of unlocking characters includes defeating a particular enemy using any character. Whilst this seems typical of a game, we need to ensure that players can achieve any targets we set for unlocking characters.
