Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr were nominated to run on the Republican side in the election of 1800. He had many fervent views on what he intended to change that, remaining true to his political party, were Republican in nature. However, many Americans still supported John Adams, the Federalist president antecedent to Jefferson, for another term, so Jefferson had to campaign well. To conclude months of working, Jefferson came out victorious after multiple ties, which was the event that inspired the twelfth amendment, stating electors had only one vote for president and another for vice president. This opposed the previous method in which they would cast two votes without specifying which position the candidate should take. This was the first …show more content…
It was known as the Louisiana Territory. Napoleon didn't have any need for this land after his attempt to control Haiti and revolved to sell it for financial aid to get back money lost in the attack. This was good for America because "farmers needed access to the Mississippi to transport their crops to markets. Their goods traveled down the Mississippi to New Orleans, where workers loaded them onto other ships bound for markets on the East Coast." The two nations compromised on a price of $15 million, and this exchange was regarded as the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase positively impacted America in many ways. It doubled the size of the country which provided many more miles of farmland for future settlers. It also gave control of the Mississippi River which had many benefits, one of which was shipping interest. Though Jefferson worried the purchase was unconstitutional, the advantages were too useful to decide against gaining them. Now with the addition of this land, explorers were needed to discover the resources and inhabitants it was home to. This decision helped develop the size of the America

Louisiana Purchase- The purchase had happened when President Thomas Jefferson had bought the land from Napoleon Bonaparte of France, as Napoleon needed money to fund the war with France against Britain. The Federalists opposed the Louisiana Purchase due to political reasons. In document B it states, “The cowardly wretch at their head [Jefferson]”. This quote displays how low the Federalists thought of Jefferson. The document also states, “an infernal pleasure in the utter destruction of his opponents”, showing that Jefferson is thought of as a man with demonic pleasures against the Federalists. Let’s imagine that Napoleon didn’t have a need for the allotted money for the French war efforts so he decided not sell the Louisiana Territory or the Louisiana Purchase to the United States. The history of the United States would have been very different if we didn’t obtain the purchase of the Louisiana territory from the French specifically Napoleon because it would have changed the activities and regions in the United States a great deal. If this didn’t happen to begin with, The United States wouldn’t have a been a region ranging from coast to coast. This meaning that the United States would have not been doubled the size that it was previously.
Napoleon decided to end his tries at starting this world conquest. Jefferson had a decision to make: war with France or to loose support of the western farmers who needed to have the port of New Orleans open to trade their crops, neither being a favorable turn out. In attempts to avoid both, Thomas Jefferson sent James Monroe to France to try and buy the port from France. Claiming the port of New Orleans was now at the top of his to-do list, in the ideal spot at the mouth of the Mississippi River emptying out into the Gulf of Mexico. Gaining this piece of land would make it possible for farmers to transfer goods to market.
The Louisiana Purchase has more than doubled our available land. This means we can spread into the land when we get too crowded at our towns. This also means that the available supplies would increase as we can get medicines and other stuff from over on the purchased land. The land might have more than we
The election of 1800, being the first election where both parties ran candidates and actually campaigned, featured Thomas Jefferson, the Republican, against John Adams, the Federalist. With Jefferson coming out victorious, his election into presidency showed that Americans wanted more democratic politics where common people were free to express their opinion. However, Jefferson’s campaign of liberty was a bit questionable because of its limitations. While Jefferson campaigned for liberty, only a fraction of the men were able to vote and absolutely no liberty was offered to the slaves. Though he wanted to foster freedom, Jefferson owned slaves of his own and took land from the Indians.

New Orleans being a port city, it was a good passage for trade. Despite this, a rebellion in Haiti had shifted his focus off of the territory. Now that the land held no benefit to him, and was a large mass just taking up space, he decided his best option was to sell the land and gain the money for France (“Background”). Jefferson's only concern was securing the waterway into the Gulf of Mexico. He offered a sum of two million dollars for the port city alone.
