The Civil War’s Positive Effects Outweigh The Negative Effects The Civil War’s positive effects greatly outweigh the negative effects. There were numerous negative effects of the war including things like the death toll, how hard it made getting houses and decent jobs for African Americans, etc, but the positives bring light over the negatives. The Civil War greatly affected the political structure of the United States with the abolishment of slavery, with this abolishment it brought many new political advancements for the U.S. The civil war also impacted women’s roles positively because of the civil war women advanced and showed the world how important they really are and what they can do. The advancement of medicine and healthcare also improved as an effect of the civil war, different ways of evacuation in battle and different ways of treatment brought a great positive to the effect of the war. …show more content…

Due to this abolition the Pennsylvania Abolition Society (PAS) was created on April 14, 1775. The society’s sole purpose was to improve the condition of the A.A. race. According to John Hornsby, the first anti-slavery petition was signed in 1797 due to this society. This society offered jobs and education to black youth, escaped slaves from the south or native Philadelphians. The abolishment of slavery freed more than 100,000 enslaved people from Kentucky to Delaware.
Another great positive effect of the war was how it impacted women’s roles. As mentioned in “A Woman’s War” by Nina Silber, the Civil War tested the boundaries of female behavior. It forced women into new and unsettling circumstances. According to Alice Fahs, due to the Civil War women entered paid employment in government service, industry and public schools in significantly greater numbers than previously.
