Northern and Southern Colonies in the Early 1700s During the 1700s, the economies of the Northern and Southern colonies differed majorly from one another. The Northern colonies were completely opposite of the Southern colonies economy wise. Life in society was quite different considering the fact that there was an influx of immigrants (Textbook). This helped to create a very diverse population in both of the colonies (Textbook). The main differences between the two colonies were the ways that slavery was carried out, the population of people, and the economy overall. Northern colonies had a very minimal amount of slaves.
