The purpose of this experiment is to perform a two step reductive amination using o-vanillin with p-toluidine to synthesize an imine derivative. In this experiment, 0.386 g of o-vanillin and 0.276 g of p-toluidine were mixed into an Erlenmeyer flask. The o-vanillin turned from a green powder to orange layer as it mixed with p-toludine, which was originally a white solid. Ethanol was added as a solvent for this reaction. Sodium borohydride was added in slow portion as the reducing agent, dissolving the precipitate into a yellowish lime solution.
“I hated Martin more than others, because of his belly” Nick Vaca says in his story, Martin, which is about how the author reenacts the memory with visual language and specific word choices to give a picture on what he has a lasting impression on, which is an encounter with a boy named Martin. It became evident that the narrator, seemed to remember the scene perfectly, which shows how he still remembers it, which might indicate some sort of mark or impression left after experiencing the encounter. Near the end of the book, Nick might of seen that he had the wrong idea about Martin, which could of let his past experience affect his eyes metaphorically on Martin. Nick starts off the story with the first details, but more importantly, shows his point of view. Before he has his first interaction with the name Martin, he might of already have a point of view on where he lives, as it was not very wealthy.
In this application, Cohen appeals to the senses of hearing, taste, and touch. She vividly describes the ways in which he eats, which, however, are particularly common. Cohen’s central idea regarding the grandfather’s normality is clearly seen through the various

Seen most prominently in Ethan and Mattie’s dinner scene, the cat often seems to make attempts at breaking up the two lovers. The animal makes pointed efforts to keep Ethan and Mattie from developing anything more than a friendship, and acts like a nagging wife keeping her husband from getting to know any other women too well, as would be Zeena’s role if she were home at the time. Ethan and Mattie’s neglect towards the cat’s preventative actions causes the feline to smash the red glass pickle dish symbolic of Ethan and Zeena's love and marriage.
Her red scarf, lips, and ribbon all connected her to the symbolic object, the pickle dish. The pickle dish is first showed as Zeena's and Ethan's physical meaning of their marriage. Once Mattie comes into Ethan's sight of love, her presence destroys it. The way it happens in the story is that as Ethan and Mattie prepare for dinner the cat jumps onto the table and breaks the red pickle

Formalist Plot You know what they say; you are what you eat! What kind of food you eat and prepare shows a little bit of who you are and in literature it can sometimes be used to convey meaning. In many ways the heart shaped cookies that one makes in february can represent their love for somebody in a way that words can’t. Sometimes we have to recognize that the smallest actions we make can tell a lot about our lives and our stories.
Drug addiction is a constant war. It is a battle being fought between oneself, possibly family, friends but always, the drug. Yet for anyone that is struggling, there is hope. Despite our differences, there will always be a path to recovery. In “Water by the Spoonful”, Quiara Alegría Hudes incorporates several strategies and tactics through various character’s agencies and symbolism to ultimately create a piece that centers recuperation.
Ling saw the other pots and that the plants bloomed very impressively. This made him feel very self conscious about his plant. In “The Mystery Ingredient,” when Leona “reached the judging table and saw the other contestants' dishes, she felt even worse.” In this, Leona compared her dish to the others and felt bad because her dish looked awful compared to the
While I thoroughly enjoyed The Diary of an Oxygen Thief and it wasn’t insanely difficult to read, it was just harder to read than the rest of the books for several reasons. For one, at the beginning of the book, it would switch from many different stories about people. Which made it harder to follow along and keep track of whom he was talking about. Another reason is the author switched very suddenly from subject to subject. However, I loved the book, it was a very good read.
Imagine being invited to your sibling’s wedding, only to find out that they are marrying your significant other. The novel, Like Water for Chocolate, written by Laura Esquivel, takes place on a ranch in Mexico in which Esquivel explains the hardships that the youngest daughter, Tita, has to go through due to the De La Garza’s family tradition and Tita’s relationship with her mother. Since she is the youngest of three, the tradition is that she is not able to marry, and her main focus should be to take care of her mother until she dies. Tita had already been in love though with Pedro Muzquiz, but now he is married to her sister, Rosaura, to try to get closer to Tita. Therefore, Mama Elena knows to keep the two apart and threatens Tita if she ever does anything she is not supposed to.
While Nya is walking to the pond to get water, her mother is taking care of the younger children and cooking. When Nya returns from her morning trip to the pond, her mother is waiting for her with a meal. Linda Sue Park illustrates this on page 20, “Nya’s mother took the plastic container from her… she handed Nya a bowl of sorghum meal and poured a little milk over it.” In Nya’s family, each member must work hard at their own job to help the family along. Mother’s meal helps Nya to have the strength to make her second trip of the day to the pond and back to get the water that they all need to survive.
Once the dinner began, Amy got more and more embarrassed with her family as some of their actions are rude and gross to most cultures but not to theirs. “My relatives licked the ends of their chopsticks and reached across the table, dipping them into the dozen or so plates of food”. Her father then reached across the table and poked into one of the fishes cheeks and said “Amy, your favorite”. This made Amy so embarrassed that she wished she would just disappear.
She has to add “an apple-onion stuffing” (13) just to make it interesting. The metaphor of this poem creates a vivid image of the brother's and sister's personalities, and how the character is able to deal with them. The author creates a cannibalistic environment with her cooking terms, but is able to make it light hearted through the overall
