A personal issue is an issue that pertains to a single person, the issue is a localized. A public issue is a problem that affects a group of people, the public issue can easily become a cause where many people stand on the same side of a problem and attempt to change something in a variety of ways including, public protests, boycotts, and rallies. Much like a public issue becomes a cause a personal problem can become a public issue when enough people share a problem. Being a freshman in college I have been put into a world of firsts, I no longer live my parents, I now have a roommate, I can no longer make whatever I want for dinner, I have to share a bathroom with people I hardly know and I have to pay for things I never thought about while …show more content…
This price may include tuition, housing, and meals, but the price does not cover everything. Students still but bedding, fridges, microwaves, hygiene products and of course textbooks. The exorbitant amount of money angers not just me, but other students in the same predicament as me, students that have graduated and are still paying off loans and especially parents. The issue of the cost of education is not ignored. There are constant arguments of the price in homes, schools and Senate floors. However being able to at cut down on the cost of some of the “extra” fees would help at least a little …show more content…
A student run site in which students who have previously taken a course can share what textbooks and other materials (such as books, notebooks, and calculators) are actually a necessity. Students could verify others claims once posts are written and the material could be updated easily. The creation of a common website could also make trading, sharing or selling textbooks easier and allow students to gain access to cheaper materials. The site, while not being able to tackle the tough cost of tuition, housing, and meals; would allow students to cut down on some costs and help others who have struggled in the past. With a site like this, there would, of course, be some issue, some may find it entertaining to lie about taking courses and what materials are needed for them. However to combat the issue students would verify that they actually took the course, and other students who have taken the course could verify other students responses and the response with the most verifications could easily be seen as the most accurate. Obviously some text books are needed to complete the course, however using the site students could share places to find cheaper versions of books or online
Patton attempts to build his argument further by providing the current average costs of college tuitions, then reveals a line chart of the inflation over the past 20 years. In comparison with the $9,139 (in-state public) and $135,010 (private) tuition rates for the 2014-15 years, the author claims, “If education inflation continues to average 5.2%, the cost of tuition and fees for a four-year public university in 10 years will be between $65,590 (in-state public) and $224,124 (private),” (Patton, 2015). This claim seems outrageous and serious until you realize there are several errors in his calculations. Patton forgets that the value of the American dollar inflates by at least 2.3% at the same time that tuition prices increase by 5.2%, essentially dividing the intensity of this inflation by half. To add onto this, predicting the rates of inflation by an entire 10 years, which is half of the sample provided, is clearly extrapolation, thus making this calculation unreliable.
What a shock this has given me and especially to other that are concerned with the paying or attending college. The rise of price for a higher education has brought many questions such as if the we are to believe that the education of today is worth more then the education from the past. Like I can’t believe how we are taken advantage over the price of our education and, shouldn’t the prices of all university be the same. Wow, this statistic has shown how greatly this problem has impacted us students, and has shown how public universities have taken an advantage on pricing our
Not having free or low college tuition impacts many people, “between 2011-12 and 2016-17 tuition and fees have increased 9% at four year public schools, 11% at two year public schools, and 13% at
Most students come to school on about $25,000 scholarship. Although they get that for four years in college it’s $100,000, that doesn’t cover everything that a person in college needs. The problem with that is that money is usually going to school supplies that are highly expensive. For example in the paragraph it states, a “$25,000 scholarship may seem like a lot of money, but it really only covers the basics. It covers thousands of dollars in mysterious, unknown university fees, tuition, housing, a meal-plan and multiple hundred-dollar textbooks.”
As mentioned previously, direct taxpayer support towards public universities has decreased lately leading to a rise in tuition prices. Universities are pressured by their boards to break even, and since student loans will just cover their price increases, they have no incentive to hold down tuition costs. That is where the solution must intervene. According to the Department of Education, public colleges made about $57 billion from tuition alone in the 2009-2010 school year. That gives the government a threshold of about $60 billion to spend on aid.
This does not include the additional student fees: including housing, meal plans, books, registration, and numerous others. Additionally, students may not have not be able to afford transportation or other expenses that are associated with the service requirement. Not only would this be an additional burden and financial strain on the student, but it could be deemed unfair and inequitable. [Statistics, Current Events,
The cost of tuition is an incredible problem in today’s education system throughout the United States because it hinders the people who want to go college but cannot afford to do so. The price of tuition is a burden to those who are actually attending
In the last fifty years the world has gone under many changes but one that is really shocking is the escalating prices of colleges. Since 1985, the price tag in American colleges and universities has
Some college students are working part-time jobs and are full-time students. Perhaps, working through college will not always cover all of a student's education expenses including books, supplies, room and board. If free tuition is given, students will have further time to educate themselves. Moreover, college tuition and prices are at an all-time high. Each year, prices are rising higher and higher.
Many people dream of a life filled with riches, but that dream is hard to obtain without a college degree. It is somewhat ironic how people dream of being a successful student and going to college but the cost of tuition turns that dream into a horrible nightmare. It is not a shock to most people when they that college tuition is expensive, but in the past few years it has increased to an all-time high. Lower and middle class students have now begun to realize that college tuition is holding them away from their dreams. Even though college tuition could provide opportunities for job creation and economic growth, tuition is not affordable for the average American household which in effect, prohibits students from taking opportunities like going to college in the first place.
The cost of college tuition is an enormous problem now days. For a long time, the subject never got brought up and today things are changing. Students study hard and try their best to get that college acceptance letter from their dream college. Students all around the world are struggling with college debt and trying their hardest to receive those so-called ‘perfect’ grades. However, college tuition is not very affordable and is increasing every year.
How personal problems and public issues come together Personal problems and public issues come together when there are a whole lot of people with the same troubles. An example of this would be with divorce. It is a personal problem as it affects the husband and wife divorcing but it can become a public issue if a large number of people are also affected. It would be a societal concern if the divorce rates are high.
We have to pay for tuition, meal plans, books, labs, parking, detergents, air, the right to live, and other things that we simply shouldn’t have to be bothered with. We are forced to work while in school. Some work on campus, others work off. Regardless, its tough. There are times we have to make the choice to stay home and study without pay or go to work so we can make that monthly installment to stay in school.
College is not cheap, a hefty fee is often payed by those who want to attend, often out of their own wallets. It is no secret that funding a college education is getting harder and harder. Thus begs the question, is the charge of Universities becoming too high? Yes, college costs have skyrocketed over the past decade (citation). Being capable of going off to a university to acquire an education is slipping for countless people due to the rising costs.
Its effect depends on the student as well as the institution that gives change. A good and well-developed online course, is the same like a well-developed traditional course, can help students to reach new worlds of learning. Such courses have many positive effects such as access , efficiency and cost 1-Access : Online learning makes education available for many different kinds of people. For example , it easy for those who have social anxiety to learn comfortably and without any stress through a screen separating them from others .
