In 1787 the future of the United States of America remained unclear as the founding fathers attempted to find a form of government to satisfy the nation. At the Constitutional Convention the men gathered formed an idea for a new government. However, not everyone present agreed with the newly proposed constitution and two groups formed, the federalists, who were pro-constitution, and the antifederalists, who opposed the constitution. Because the Constitution needed to be ratified by nine of the thirteen states to become law the two groups wrote essays to defend their stance and persuade the people to join their ideology. When comparing Hamilton’s federalist essays with his account of the hurricane that hit his home the language varies in its intricacies. In Hamilton’s account of the hurricane he used very eloquent language and gave off a tone of trying to impress the readers. The tone of trying to impress remains in Hamilton’s essays through his vast knowledge of politics but he uses much simpler language in order for the people of New York to understand the ideas he presented. In Hamilton’s essays he makes his audience, the people of New York, very clear because he lives in New York and the state’s population is predominantly antifederalist. In the 15th essay of the federalist papers Hamilton addresses his audience as his “fellow citizens” which brings Hamilton down to the same level as the readers. The use of terms to refer to the audience helps the audience form a connection to Hamilton. The reader will see Hamilton refer to them as a fellow citizen which helps remove a stereotype of Hamilton, that he believed himself lofty and above everyone else. The image of Hamilton elevating himself embedded itself in rural areas where the people did not think highly of the city people. After reading both sets of arguments made by Alexander Hamilton and Patrick Henry in regards to the constitution, their main points are as follows. Patrick Henry strongly felt as though the states should remain separate. He was not pleased with the idea that the constitution was giving the authority to be adapted by the people as opposed to the states, therefore insinuating the possibility of the states losing rights that they might have or ha. Henry was also opposed to the idea that the constitution did nothing to secure the rights of the people. Hamilton’s argument in Federalist 23 are pretty clear that the only way to properly preserve liberty is by creating a strong central government as proposed by the constitution.
In the early stages of our country, Alexander Hamilton played a key role in developing a unified government which portrayed the early republican conservative values. He aspired to abolish slavery in support of human freedoms, as did many of his colleagues. However his ideas regarding the new government did not gain their full support. Hamilton was not unknown for his political theories; he was a practical man who was able to articulate his ideas into practice. The Article of Confederation was created in 1776, after the American revolution. In 1787 The Articles of Confederation was re-written during The Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. The reason for rewriting it was because of it being a weak central government. No one person was allowed all the power in fear of being like the British. The Congress at the time was made up of one delegate from the thirteen states.
Towards the end of the 17th century US relations with foreign nations such as France and GBR depleted to the cries of war. Luckily Mr. Adams considered the US’s condition financially and never asked congress to declare war, especially with France. Though during the election of 1800, Adams became no match for the Republican Party as the Federalists, represented by John Adams during the election, stabbed Adams in the back as Alexander Hamilton, a prominent High-Federalist always creating problems for Adams, cried to many southern voters of the Presidents inability to hold office. In fact, Hamilton composed a pamphlet “Letter Concerning the Public Conduct and Character of John Adams.”

Alexander Hamilton was one of the key people in the ratification and debate on the constitution, and his philosophies helped shape present America, which is surprising as Hamilton “ famously called ‘democracy’ a ‘disease’ and a ‘poison. ’”(Martin 21) This is not necessarily because he believed in a monarchy or other system of government, but because of his lack of faith in the public, his beliefs that the educated should rule, and the direction the American government took with the inclusion of the Bill of Rights. He mentions how certain people, trying to sway the public opinion, have falsely claimed that the role of the President of the United States would be no different from the monarch of England, which the people relatively recently broke away from. They took into consideration the people’s dislike of monarchy, and using that made this comparison. An example Hamilton gave was from the governor of New York, who had a lot of power over the people. Hamilton states people were given the false impression that the power given to the President would be no different to the power of a king with extreme wealth and unregulated power. As a politician, as a revolutionary war hero, and the first treasury secretary, Hamilton dedicated his life and intellect to unifying and strengthening the United States.
