As The Murder of Laci Peterson played out in six parts on the A&E network, new information became available to the public. The case was brought to national television in 2004 when the young mother-to-be went missing on Christmas Eve morning. Something wasn't right, and her family knew it. Over the subsequent weeks, the media played a role in making Scott Peterson look guilty. He was having a relationship with another woman while his wife Laci was pregnant with their child. His actions were despicable, but were they also murderous?

She was the juror on the case and was dubbed Strawberry Shortcake because of her crazy, bright hair. According to In Touch Weekly, Richelle Nice is insisting she didn't intentionally lie to get on the jury that would ultimately decide Scott Peterson's fate. His defense team is pushing the fact that she lied on her questionnaire about not having been part of a lawsuit or anything else. Nice was, in fact, part of a court case. She was in a similar situation where she felt like her unborn baby may be at risk. The defense is arguing that Richelle was too emotional over the incident, making it hard for her to have been

Christmas Eve 2002, Laci Peterson was reported missing by her family in Modesto, California. She was a caring, loving mother to be. IT was unusual for Laci, whose family adored, to just disappear, especially since she was eight months pregnant. She, supposedly, was at home by herself while her husband, Scott Peterson, was away on a golfing trip with his father and some colleagues (or so they thought). Scott later admitted to police that he was on a fishing trip.

It has been 26 years since Major League Baseball banned Pete Rose from the sport for life. In February of 1989, Rose was questioned by then retiring commissioner Peter Ueberroth amid gambling rumors against baseball’s all-time hit king. Rose denied the allegations, but on April 1, 1989, the IRS seized betting slips with Rose’s name, writing and finger prints on them. MLB announced it would launch a full investigation, which resulted in a 225-page report from investigator John Dowd known as the “Dowd Report”. The murder of Lynne Harper was a tragic and uneventful occurrence to have taken place in the small community of Clinton, Ontario. What is also uneventful is that an innocent fourteen-year-old teenager, named Steven Truscott, was wrongly accused and charged with Lynne’s death. This was all because Steven last saw helping Lynne out by giving her a lift on his bicycle. The legal system failed Lynne, Steven, and their families because the Police and Crown did not follow proper procedures. Even after Stevens’s exoneration, the real murder was never caught and was able to continue living their life, unlike Steven who loss a part of his childhood and adulthood.
Dred Scott was a black slave that traveled to the Illinois and Wisconsin Territories with Dr. Emerson, his master. While Dred Scott was located in the free territory, he was considered a free man. Eventually, both Scott and Emerson moved to Saint Louis, Missouri, a slave state, which meant Scott would no longer be considered free. When they arrived in Missouri, Dr. Emerson died leaving Dred Scott in the hands of Emerson’s wife. Dred Scott sued Mrs. Emerson in 1846, to defend his claim that he was no longer a slave.
This couldn’t have been more incorrect. In fact, his lack of remorse showed showed even more when he said the only reason he didn’t kill her was because he knew that if he had killed her, she would only be in pain for 10 minutes at the most (Clarendon). He knew that if he didn’t kill her she would live a life in pain with the grief of her young daughter. This inability to care for his family members and wanting to make them hurt shows that he has Antisocial Personality
Scott Peterson Kills His Unborn Child and Wife 137 women around the world are killed by their partner or family member everyday (Bloom, 2020). Scott Peterson, a husband, father, and fertilizer salesman went fishing on Christmas Eve when the unimaginable happened. His wife, Laci Peterson, went missing and all the evidence pointed to him, the spouse. The couple had lived in a house about 90 miles away from San Francisco in Modesto, California. On December 24, 2002, Laci Peterson went missing, but three months later was found near her unborn child at the Berkeley Marina.
The legal issue as discussed above is related to whether there is enough physical evidence to say that Scott Peterson is the murderer. His behavior, the fact that he had an affair with Amber Fray shortly before his wife 's disappearance that he continued to do so after her disappearance, and that he lied multiple times, and his going to the Berkley Marina on the day of his wife 's disappearance while the bodies of the victims were found not too far from that location, make him a very likely suspect. He also had a life insurance of 250 000$ put under Laci 's name (Dockterman, 1), and showed a behavior that would suggest him leaving the country before being tried also adds to this belief. However, there is still not direct evidence of him committing the murder so there is an issue as to accusing someone of murder and sentencing him to death with this kind of evidence, is it enough and would this be just? Moreover, the state of California considers an 8 weeks old or older fetus as a victim.
Just Mercy written by Bryan Stevenson, he had a decade long career as a legal advocate for marginalizing people who have been either falsely convicted or harshly sentenced. Even though the book contains profiles of many different people, the central storyline that the relationship has between Stevenson, the organization he founded and Walter McMillian, a black man that was wrongfully accused of murder and was sentenced to death in Alabama in the late 1980’s. In the book, Stevenson provides a historical context, as well as his own moral and philosophical reflections on the American criminal justice and prison systems. Ultimately he argues that the society should choose empathy and mercy over the condemnation and punishment.
Natalie Wolfe’s media report on the guilty plea of Rick Thorburn over the murder of his 12-year-old step-daughter Tiahleigh Palmer was published on the 19th of March 2018 on news.com.au under the title ‘Tiahleigh Palmer: Rick Thorburn to plead guilty to schoolgirl’s murder’. This journalist used the news values; betrayal of trust, violence, moral clarity, and simplification in order to gather the attention of the public and engage the reader. The use of these news values is effective in being able to get the attention of and engage the public in this crime. The ‘Betrayal of Trust’ news value is less about the media report and more about the crime itself, though the media does have an impact on how it is portrayed. Natalie writes about the crime in a way that portrays Rick as a guardian that has taken advantage of his duty of care to the victim, Tiahleigh, by murdering her and leaving her body to be found on the edge of a river (Wolfe, 2018).
