As I reflect on this academic year I noticed that at the beginning of the semester I had no specific goal. If any it was to get through the semester without any major downfalls, but once this course became part of my routine I began to enjoy it. I started to push myself to have a better physique. Overall this course helped me become less depressed and somewhat more active. At the start of this academic year I had a very simple diet that consisted of this new food in powder food called Soylent. Whit this product I knew exactly how many calories I was consuming, and this product provided me with every nutrient that I would need. It was all going well into this diet became compromised, the product was on backorder and the company would not have any in stock until October 29. This meant that from September until early November I would have to cook my meals, and with my tight schedule I would have to leave the cooking to my father since my mother had to go back to Mexico. …show more content…
I personally do not mid eating the same food over and over again, in fact that is what I did with Soylent. In my opinion we were both eating pretty healthy, but once I took my heart rate in class I was shocked to be told otherwise. It was not dangerous level, but apparently I was eating too much salt and that is why my heath rate was higher than usual. I still wanted to know where all that salt came from, and all I could think us tuna. Why tuna? Well tuna was a major part of my daily diet, and tuna by itself is low on sodium, but the crackers that I ate the tuna with; they are full of salt and have been eating them with almost every meal. At this time, I wanted to go back to my simple powder food, but I could not go back. I did not want to leave my father eating alone at dinner, so I decided to pay more attention to my condiments instead of leaving my father alone at the dinner
I took classes like KIN 220, CST 105 but the most helpful overall was KIN 250 which was though by my most favorite professor, Mrs. Poole. The course helped me realize the importance of physical activity by providing me understanding how PA can improve health, it can help people with mental problems, and it can help people to connect with each other. Physical activity has a big impact on health and also mental health by providing them a way to change their body into what they want it to be. Physical activity can help with connecting with others by helping you push yourself out of your comfort level and try something new. This course helped me prepare for my career by providing me the information I needed to be successful.
Many people have been more conscious of what they are eating. They are trying to avoid salty dishes, sodas, butter, and alcohol because it is bad for the health. But, for Dr, Aaron Carroll, director of the Center for Health Policy at Indiana University and author of The Bad Food Bible: How and Why to Eat Sinfully, said that not all the food you are considering bad are really bad for you and there are fewer pieces of evidence against them. “In fact, maybe we should be eating some of them more often,” Greta Jochem wrote in her article for The Salt.
The DRI recommendation for sodium is 1,500 mg whereas the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) is < 2300 mg. When comparing these recommended sodium intake to the average amount of sodium intake I had during the diet project part one, I was shocked to see that I ate an excess of 133 mg more than the set UL. During the project the foods that contributed to my
My mom buys our groceries, and she has to eat a low sodium diet, so most of the stuff at my house is unsalted, lightly salted, or low sodium. Also my mother makes dinner, and she doesn’t cook with any salt. I usually eat with my family, so most of what I eat does not have much sodium content in it. The cultural influences on my diet might include the fact that portion sizes in our country are much larger than they probably should be. Also, there are less healthy options, and whole grains are not as prevalent.
1) Which dimensions of health and wellness have been most impacted as a result of taking this course, and how? Where will you go from here - do you think you will probably continue these changes, or not? Why? The dimension of health and wellness that has been impacted the most from taking this course, would be my physical health and wellness.
Alonzo I think everyone who took this class was stressed out. Even if a student used their time wisely, the workload could take a toll on their health. Not only are students vulnerable to anxiety and depression by the time they graduate, but also hopelessness as well (Leibow, 2010). I noticed that by spending time with positive people, for example, it has provided me with the mental support that is needed to be successful in college.
I. We consume 8,500mg of salt per day, almost all from processed food. This is only one of the many reasons people have poor nutrition. Humans tend to not know the difference between processed and real foods causing the nutrition levels in our society to drop at an alarming rate. For years this problem has been a big factor to obesity and illness. Real food is a single ingredient with no chemicals even if they’re ground and put into a jar.
From the beginning I got to work with other graduate students who were also starting their first year in the program. This was beneficial because I got the opportunity to learn from my own successes and failures while also learning from theirs. Dr. Hugh Riley, who created and teaches the course, gave us almost complete control of our eight sections (each
Introduction Self-awareness is a psychological state in which people are aware of their traits, feelings and behavior. It is the ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate from the environment and other individuals. Self-awareness is arguably the most fundamental issue in psychology, from both a developmental and an evolutionary perspective. According to psychologists, self-awareness is classified into two types: public and private.
I learned a lot from this meeting and I feel much better now after discussing with field supervisor my future plans as a social worker. I feel comfortable that even though, he knows now that I may not stay within the agency, he will still teach me to the best of his knowledge. Evaluation: Was the objective or goal for this activity accomplished? How do you know? How could you have worked to improve the outcome?
The impact of nutrition on health is important and a person’s diet can be a huge factor in preventing chronic diseases. Many individuals are not aware of the quality and quantity of foods that should be consumed to prevent certain diseases. In regards, many countries have developed specific dietary guidelines to show a general sense of specific foods, proportion and frequency of those foods in order to promote healthy eating and lifestyles. Although each countries dietary guidelines are different there are still aspects that are very similar. Two diets that will be discussed and compared in this paper are the 2010 Dietary guidelines for Americans (DGA) and the Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet).

My insights on cultures in the United States have changed as a result of my studies this semester. I have a greater understanding of ethnic groups, gender issues, sexuality issues, religious ideology, politics, and poverty. My new knowledge base will help me as I become more culturally competent and, therefore, more responsive to my future clients. I am anxious to practice my new understandings in my classroom and in a position as a school counselor.
The specific practice I used this week for experimental practice was writing in a gratitude journal. I chose to utilize the practice of the gratitude journal because it seemed like the quickest practice that I could do after a long day. I started my gratitude journal on Monday, April 3rd. From Monday to Saturday before I laid down to bed, I sat at my desk with a notebook and wrote down at least three things I was most thankful for during my day. Each journal entry was made in the comfort and solitude of my room.
INTRODUCTION This report will highlight and take a critical look at my years of Bachelor, with the aim of building a post-graduation long-term action plan that will guide me towards my master degree and beyond in order to enhance my full potential. Employers, universities and even professional bodies all agree on one point: “more than ever we need professionals who are responsive to economic, social, cultural, technical and environmental change and can work flexibly and intelligently across business contexts.” (Graduate Employability Skills Report, 2007). And for that to be achieved, self-reflection is needed by each and everyone of us in order to achieve our full employability potential. Reflective practice has been identified as a method
