Serial is a podcast hosted by Sarah Koenig about the mysterious murder of Hae Min Lee and the convinction of Adnan Syed in the year 1999. When Koenig looked over the case in 2014 she decided to investigate into the case on her own. Despite everything that happened to Syed pertaining his arrest many people including his family think he is innocent. I think an expert should have gone over all the details when it came to this case getting down to the bottom of who her killer is.
On Januray 13, 1999 eighteen year-old Hae Min Lee disappeared after school in Baltimore, Maryland. The investigators were convinced it was Adnan Syed- the ex boyfriend, they saw through his charm and manipulation accusing him of killing Hae because they broke up which was in December a month before she went missing. The amount of evidence in the case was not strong. First, when they tested

The map print. According to Sarah she says “The most incriminating piece of physical evidence against Adnan Syed was a fingerprint, or rather, a palm print. On a map..police found it in the backseat of Hae’s car.(pdf page 128) On the back cover was a partial print of Adnan’s left palm.” Out of this whole case this is the only physical evidence they have against him- which isn’t much. The thing is with fingerprints you never know how old they are, there’s no timestamp with them. He could’ve touched the map years ago, however you can’t tell. Second, the time of 1998 of Decemeber when Syed and Lee broke up because of their cultural differences. The prosecutor claimed “He became enraged. He felt betrayed that his honor had been besmirched, and he became very angry, and he set out to kill Hae Min Lee.” (pdf page 35). The motive for the murder doesn’t add up to
Undisclosed and Serial, two podcasts, have made Adnan Syed’s case a public phenomenon. This case originated on January 13th, 1999. Hae Min Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School, was found murdered and buried in Leakin Park about a month later. Adnan and Hae dated and had broken up shortly before the incident took place. This makes Adnan a main suspect in the investigation of her disappearance and murder.
There was not enough evidence to prove if Adnan was innocent or guilty. There were multiple people that said that Jay had Adnan’s phone but Adnan called Jay at least twice which means that Adnan would have had to use a payphone or borrow a phone. And supposedly Adnan was sitting in the best buy parking lot when he called Jay. Also in the time it took
There could have been someone else, who could have killed Hae Lee but, used Adnan’s relationship with her as their alibi. In episode four, Koenig narrates: “the call came in to Detective Massey, a Baltimore county cop...a mystery caller says look at the ex-boyfriend... The caller further advised that the boyfriend has taken the victim to Leakin park on past occasions for sexual encounters. Prior to concluding the phone interview, the caller further stated that the victim broke off the relationship with her boyfriend about a week before she was reported missing” (Koenig 2014). This call was indeed a mysterious one.
Adnan Syed was convicted of killing Hae min Lee in 1999 in Baltimore, Maryland. The call logs provide incriminating stats that prove Adnan killed Hae which shows motive behind Haes murder. Adnan Syed swears to have not remembered any events that went on the night before and the night of the slaughtering of Hae Min Lee; however, based on the call logs Adnan called Hae three times the night before she was kidnapped
In Episode 5, the podcast highlights how the cell phone records, presented as evidence by the prosecution, were subject to different interpretations. The defense argues that the cell phone tower locations do not definitively prove Adnan's presence at the crime scene. This gives evidence for the innocence of Adnan, but because it was not highly considered or used during the trial Adnan was still proven guilty. Additionally, DNA testing conducted on the crime scene failed to match Adnan's DNA, as revealed in Episode 9, weakening the prosecution's assertion of his direct involvement. The absence of concrete physical evidence connecting Adnan to the murder raises doubts about the validity of his conviction and the severity of his
Although Stephanie McPherson and Jay Wilds had different motives for killing Hae Min Lee, they succeed to falsely incriminate Adnan Syed in spite of all the evidence that clears the defendant of this crime. Adnan’s best friend Stephanie McPherson and her boyfriend Jay Wilds both have as much of a motive to murder Hae Min Lee as Adnan Syed does.
On January 15, 1999 highschooler Hae Min Lee was reported missing and weeks later found dead. She was a victim of murder and died by manual strangulation. Her ex-boyfriend Adnan was arrested for the murder. Adnan is still in prison today. Sarah Koenig is the narrator of Serial.

The Significance of Serial Who murdered Hae Min Lee in 1999? This is the question examined in season one of Serial. Produced by Sarah Koenig, Serial was a captivating true crime story that was masterfully and artfully told in podcast form. It was a significant work of art to me because of the deep thought it provoked involving the personality of the convicted murderer Adnan Sayed and the question of his guilt or innocence. It was also significant to society because it was arguably the most popular podcast of all time.
The Case of Hae Min Lee In the first season of the Serial podcast narrated by Sarah Koenig there is the case of girl, Hae Min Lee, who was murdered back in January of 1999. The case was very complicated and is now being re-investigated. Hae's ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was charged for her murder even with the lack of evidence in the investigation. There are many different presumptions made about the case, most of which point a finger at Adnan Syed.
The first reason that I think that Adnan Syed is responsible of the murder of Hae Min Lee is because the palm print that was found on the map book that the police found in Hae's car. The map book that was found in Hae's had adnan´s palm print on the back and there was a page of the book that was ripped. This palm print could've been there for a long time, but that means that Adnan has been in Hae's car. The ripped page was the page that showed Leakin park, but it also showed the rest of the town, "At trial they pointed out that it was the page that showed Leakin Park" (serial, S1, E6, pg 85). The ripped out page showed a whole lot more than just Leakin Park."
She lie still; motionless, breathless, and lifeless. He lived in a pause; incarcerated, experienceless, and innocent. On January 13, 1999 Hae Min Lee became a missing person up until February 9th, when her body was discovered in Leakin Park. Many murder suspects came to the surface but one the police refused to get over was Adnan Syed. Inconsistencies were overlooked all throughout the case.
Because of Sarah Koenig's examination and presentation of the evidence surrounding the case of Adnan Syed, today he’s a free man. It's not clear what Sarah Koenig's personal obsession with the Serial podcast was, as she has not publicly stated any specific personal obsession with the podcast or the case it explored. Sarah Koenig, a producer, and journalist was deeply interested in the story of Adnan Syed because she believed that there were many questions and uncertainties surrounding his case. Syed was convicted of the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, in 1999 and sentenced to life in prison.
