College athletes should receive compensation for their efforts because of the serious risks involved, the time the athletes put into it, and if the college is making money off these students they should financially benefit from it.

There are serious risks involved with playing any sport. Players can get injured from their sports. The physical risks involved in a sport are extensive. Many athletes have career-ending injuries during college. If that were to happen all their work would be for nothing, they would have made no monetary profit from years of training. Some athletes are put into wheel cars for life, or have permanent brain damage. Not only physical issues, but mental issues are caused by college sports. Some have long-term emotional issues such as, depression. One concussion can have effects on a person, but many athletes get more than one concussion in their careers. Multiple concussion can result in a lifetime of mental issues and long term effects.

A large amount of money is being made off these players, and they are not seeing any of it. The coaches of the sports make money off these players, the coaches do work hard, but they are not putting nearly as much effort as the players, yet they make money and the players do not. The NCAA restricts the college-athletes from making any outside income, so even if the athletes wanted to have a job they would not be allowed. Some athletes even say they do not have enough of money because they cannot work due to their sports. The college sells merchandise in regards to a member of the team and does not give the member any profit from it.
