The Man that changed America: The John Hancock Legacy Bob Dylan once declared, “A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom.” Throughout history our country had many remarkable people who have changed our nation’s future throughout the course of time. People such as John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, John Adams, George Washington, and etc. were remembered and are prominent in parts of individuals’ daily lives. But a person like John Hancock, a limited amount of the population in the Unites States knows about him. Even though he is not remembered, John Hancock is one of the founding fathers and played a pivotal role that changed the fate of our nation. John Hancock, the name that stands for integrity, strong values, consistency, and enduring support was a merchant, smuggler, and prominent Patriot of the American Revolution. He served as president of the Second Continental Congress, was the first to sign the Declaration of Independence, and founded the Sons of Liberty foundation. John Hancock is most famous for his very large, stylish signature on the Declaration of Independence. Many important documents came out of the Continental Congress during the American Revolution. As the president of the Continental Congress, John Hancock got to preside over many debates among delegates. John Hancock proved his drive and courage during the Revolutionary War. John Hancock was against the British and he was promoted to major general in the Massachusetts militia. John Hancock worked to find supplies and money for the colonial soldiers. His leadership skills helped create the United States we know today. After the Revolutionary War, John Hancock returned to Massachusetts. In 1780, he was elected as the first governor.
