In the United States, every year there are around 2,000 gang-related homicides and in the realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, it explores the issues of gang violence, and teenagers in gangs. Around 40% of all members in gangs are teenagers, who are getting involved in some dangerous things very early in life. In the novel The Outsiders, the “Greasers” which is a gang of all teenagers, fight other gangs and commit serious crimes such as murder. We as a society need to pinpoint why teenagers join gangs and stop them beforehand. We also need to help people get out of gangs if they are already in one. There is a number of reasons that range from simple to complex, on why teenagers join gangs, and we can help by finding solutions to their specific problem before they choose to join one. To help someone get out of a gang, we as a society need to show there’s more out there in the world that they could do that will make a positive impact. Teenagers have different reasons to join gangs depending on their life situation. Everyone in the “Greasers” in The Outsiders had different reasons to be part of the gang. “We were used to seeing Johnny banged up- his father clobbered him around a lot” (Hinton, 32). “Dally hated doing things the legal way. He liked to show he didn’t care if there was a law or not (Hinton, 20). Johnny and Dally are both members of the Greasers and have different reasons to be part of it. “The Outsiders” by S.E Hinton is a young adult fiction about two rival gangs. One of the rival gangs is from the East and the other from the West side. Social classes and territory are what divide the rival gangs, which causes the conflict in text. The protagonist is Ponyboy Curtis and the book is narrated from his point of view. The setting take place in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the 1960s.
When people make choices that could drastically change their life, the decision they make is based on the influence of others. In the novel, The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton a gang called the Greasers is stereotyped for being the "mean types" that slack off at school. Then there are the Socials who are know as the rich kids with cool cars that happen to like "jumping" Greasers. As these two gangs are rivaling, they both go through some dramatic events that change their perspectives on life. In the novel The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton the character Darrel Curtis is unquestionably influenced by his gang as it prevents him from being successful, leading him to becoming the father of the gang, and overall being someone to look up to.

If Dally have never met the gang, he would have went to college and would have become a soc, not because of all of the money he could earn, it would be because of his attitude. Look through the past and then realize how life is now. Timelessly people have always been divided by there social class. A huge bitter rivalry between teen classification will always be timeless. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton was about a young boy who lives in a world of tough guys, runaways, and outlaws. He experiences the real world in different ways.
Johnny was always known for not being the bravest out of the greasers so when he stood up for himself and said “Leave them alone, Dally” it was a big shock to everyone because he “worships the ground that Dally stands on”. He saw Dally as a mentor yet to everyone else he was a

Many people underestimate the struggle and change of maturing and growing up. It can feel different and be almost like an out-of-body experience. S.E. Hinton does an exceptional job at capturing what growing up and developing is like in The Outsiders. Ponyboy Curtis, a 14 year-old that is part of the Greaser gang, is undergoing a time of development in the story, and one can really see the difficulty that Ponyboy has to endure during that process. Although Ponyboy has to go through this process, he changes significantly, and becomes different in the way he acts and lives.

How “The Outsiders” written by S.E Hinton is coming of age novel During life, people will go through tragic experiences, difficult period of time and pressured by the society around them that eventually their innocence will fade with age. This can be clearly shown in the novel “The Outsiders” (written by S.E Hinton) in which the characters who are living in an area (East side of Oklahoma) full of gang society and violence;….Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade and the rest of his friends and siblings are forced to mature and grow up quicker and earlier than most of the average people due to the traumatic/tragic experiences that they had to face during their everyday conflict between “The Socs” (their rival social group). First of all, before Ponyboy Curtis had met the two girl Socs in the cinema (Sherry Valance and Marcia), he had thought that every person who are a member of their rival’s social group were very wealthy, but very threatening towards The Greasers.
The rivalry between the two gangs wreaks havoc on lives and futures. Johnny saves Pony’s life while taking the life of Bob. This action causes a domino effect in the lives of all the characters-ponyboy, Johnny, Dally, Darry, and Bob. Dallas, known as Dally, can be described as tough, brave, and misunderstood. In The Outsiders, Johnny’s place in the greaser gang is the group's pet. Johnny has horrible parents and he got badly beat up by the Socs in the past. Regardless of this terrible background, Johnny stills stays the caring person he is. Dally, another member of the greasers is known as quite the opposite. People see him as the reckless boy with no family who lives to cause trouble and doesn’t feel any shame in it.
