Thank You, Old Friend—page 1 All these years, and I’m still thinking about the life you’ve had. I admit, back in the high school days, I didn’t understand your life. I listened well, but I was too naïve. I’ve always blamed it on my age, but deep down, I knew it was because of my ego. I was carefree at that stage of life; the only stress I had to worry about was image. Somehow, with all the differences, I still met you. As much as he loved the place, he believed that there was more out there than the town. He wanted to see how far his life can go by travelling. At first, Luke was not sure about the decision. He doesn’t know much about the world. He was warned by Elliot that change would be scary. Not only that, Luke would miss his only Thank You, Old Friend – page 4 brother. Still not knowing the truth about Elliot’s intent, Luke loves his brother dearly. Ever since they were kids, Elliot was the only friend Luke had. He doesn’t feel right about his plans. For the first time, though, Luke believed in himself instead of his brother’s words. He didn’t know why, but he felt that his decision was better. Luke knew all the risks, but he decided to face it. He wanted to change. To still have contact with each other, Luke promised to give postcards to Elliot constantly. Before they were about to separate lives, Luke cried. This was the saddest cry he had. Luke didn’t know when they would see each other again. Elliot pretended all along. He was giving him advice of courage, but deep inside, he wanted Luke to fail. He wanted Luke to realize that change was not worth it. Elliot wanted to see his brother fail again.
