Thank You, Old Friend—page 1 All these years, and I’m still thinking about the life you’ve had. I admit, back in the high school days, I didn’t understand your life. I listened well, but I was too naïve. I’ve always blamed it on my age, but deep down, I knew it was because of my ego. I was carefree at that stage of life; the only stress I had to worry about was image. Somehow, with all the differences, I still met you. And if I were to make a “similarities and differences” note right now, the only phrase I would have written in the “similarities” section would be that we’re both male. Seriously, you were the complete opposite of me. You had more knowledge. You had more courage. You had more experience. Those differences you had were something …show more content…
As much as he loved the place, he believed that there was more out there than the town. He wanted to see how far his life can go by travelling. At first, Luke was not sure about the decision. He doesn’t know much about the world. He was warned by Elliot that change would be scary. Not only that, Luke would miss his only Thank You, Old Friend – page 4 brother. Still not knowing the truth about Elliot’s intent, Luke loves his brother dearly. Ever since they were kids, Elliot was the only friend Luke had. He doesn’t feel right about his plans. For the first time, though, Luke believed in himself instead of his brother’s words. He didn’t know why, but he felt that his decision was better. Luke knew all the risks, but he decided to face it. He wanted to change. To still have contact with each other, Luke promised to give postcards to Elliot constantly. Before they were about to separate lives, Luke cried. This was the saddest cry he had. Luke didn’t know when they would see each other again. Elliot pretended all along. He was giving him advice of courage, but deep inside, he wanted Luke to fail. He wanted Luke to realize that change was not worth it. Elliot wanted to see his brother fail again. As Luke appeared smaller and smaller at the horizon, Elliot realized just how little he cared about Luke’s powerful
75-76). Implying that Stuart wants to say good bye to him but, what he really is saying is that he would like to have a chance to say farewell to his friend. He never had a change to do it. Trust and love define friendship. The book of poems ‘Missing you, Metropolis’ by Gary Jackson expose truths about life with poems in a united way.
She is in quandary over his death and cannot give up hope that he is alive: “Don’t pretend, I know you don’t believe me about Evan”(Yancey 44). Cassie encounters arguments over his death with her own thoughts. Thinking maybe he escaped the explosion of Camp Haven by a drone, that would be highly unlikely though because they don’t see any drones when they are saved. This conflict of person verse self is important, because Cassie needs to stay focused more on the present and what is happing in her world in front of her eyes, verses thinking about Evan which is a distraction to what is actually going
Luke had C3-PO and R2-D2 to lead him, but he did not want to do what they said. Then he did because his aunt and uncle were killed by Imperial stormtroopers.they had things they were reluctant to do, but they did it anyway Both have some very special abilities. Gilgamesh was ⅔ god and ⅓ man. Luke had the force to aid him in his journeys. This made them very good fighters, smarter, and very hard to defeat.
There is a theory that there are only seven different story-lines in the world, but they are all re-used in different ways to make up all of the books and movies and plays we have today. If that theory were true, Luke's life fell into the category of the quiet kid with no glaringly obvious hopes, dreams or aspirations, if that category existed. His life seemed to helplessly revolve around school, and he spent all of his nights slaving over books and copies, studying his subject matter with an outlook of frustration on his world. Luke was nothing special to himself or to anybody else. Of course, if he found the right person, they would be able to find the special and unique aspects of Luke and embrace them, but that somebody just hadn't seemed
He wants to help Leeza recover quickly and to take care of the others. In Chapter 20 p.220 ” “I didn’t finish everything yesterday,”he said. Which wasn’t exactly a lie. But he was afraid the nurse would see right through him.”. This shows that he is changing to be a caring person.

However, Sophia doesn’t know the full extent of Luke’s
Although they are on stage and narrate the entire scene, Elliot does not see them. At the same time, there is no indication that Grandpop, Ginny, and Pop show any empathy towards Elliot. Grandpop states that Elliot’s “hand enters the warm meat of his calf,” an alarming sign that Elliot is gravely injured, but no stage directions express that Grandpop rushes over to aid Elliot. Instead, Grandpop, Ginny, and Pop only specifically interact with Elliot when they tie him in the barbed wire. Afterwards,, there is an invisible barrier between him and them that serves to represent the detachment between Elliot and his
He uses narrative clarity in his writing to make his writing clear and straightforward, making his description of the events concise. This is evident in ‘As they were saying this, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” ’ This helps to get a clear message across to the audience that Jesus is real and comes back in peace as an actual human and not as a ghost. Luke also uses imagery and symbolism in his writing in symbolic elements such as Jesus’ wounds, which can serve as a visual reminder of his sacrificial death and resurrection. This also adds depth to the narrative, we see this when it is said “See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.””
The boy is never named but is clearly a big impact on Anna’s life more so than Luke’s. The boy comes and goes as he pleases. On the journey to find a new place it is “to their great delight, on each of these journeys, the boy chose to accompany them. (pg.10). From the series of vivid images that Lohrey uses to describe the boy, it is clear that she is trying to bring to life the imagined relationship between Anna, Luke and their deceased son.
In enduring these complex emotions, this section was the most remarkable part. One of the first apparent emotions the boy experiences with the death of his father is loneliness to make this section memorable. The boy expresses this sentiment when he stays with his father described as, “When he came back he knelt beside his father and held his cold hand and said his name over and over again,” (McCarthy 281). The definition of loneliness is, “sadness because one has no friends or company.”
Luke not willing to believe that Death Vader is completely evil, he constantly tells himself that, “I know there is still good in him” (Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back). While Anakin, now Darth Vader, may appear evil, there is still something in him that will create a spark. This spark occured when Luke was fighting Emperor Palpatine. While Luke was getting electrocuted by Palpatine.
He wants to return to normalcy, to forget everything that happened. So Luke makes his way to his family home right as the sun is beginning to rise. He stops on the second step to the front porch and lifts a flower pot on the right side of it, he pulls a key out from underneath it and heads toward the door. As he places the key in handle he notices there is a note taped to door.
