Because of the conflicts that were occurring during the 1800’s some races did not feel as if they were Americans. The Civil War began on April 12, 1861, ending April 9, 1865. Since having the right of being an American during the 1800 's, whites felt most in control/most common over different races. . Until this day many citizens still believe that a race is more important than the other. Being classified as an American was a major issue during the 1800’s then it is today. Basically being an American during the Civil War is having the ability to own, work (getting paid a reasonable amount), or being able to go to school. During this era, slaves did not have any of these rights because they were not considered Americans. Slaves were considered property to the “Americans”. Also, if you were not white you were not classified as an American because they believed that they were superior. If you were a slave you was basically property, you were sold and bought various times. During the Civil War these Americans were called Confederates or South. The ability of being able to vote is a wonderful privilege; voting also gives your vote a say for who is representing our country. Freedom is an excellent opportunity because you are able to choose what you want to say and your religion. These two rights are important to numerous of people because nobody wants to be told what they cannot say or worship. Joining the military is also a joyful experience because you have the choice to fight for your country. Fighting for your country shows that citizens appreciate America and what has done for them. Having an opportunity to apply for jobs, school, and owning a house, car, business, etc.. is a privilege
In the years leading up to the Civil War, the Nation struggled to resolve many different sectional issues. These issues and conflicts produced a distinct series of crises and subsequent compromises made in attempts to unify the nation. Nevertheless, the pre-Civil War compromises from 1820 to 1860 only contributed to growing tensions over slave states’ rights. The first compromise of the 1800s that contributed to growing tensions over slaver and states’ rights would have to be the Missouri Compromise of 1820.

The book begins by reviewing the origins of the war. Chapter one covers the issues between northern and southern states and the tension over right and slave possession. The tension created a conflict that raised a number of political, social, and military events that then proceeded into a battle to abolish slavery from the colonies.
The date was June 28th, 1861. On this day, Jefferson Davis Tant was born to William and Mattie Tant in Paulding County, Georgia. Merely two months and sixteen days before his birth, the American Civil War had officially begun. This time of horrific tumult and immeasurable sorrow was the world into which the infant Tant was born. At the time of his birth, his father owned eleven farms and a magnificent two-story mansion in northern Georgia.
Ulysses S. Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio in April of 1822. He graduated from West Point in 1843. He was found to be an effective soldier/leader during the Mexican War, however, once the excitement of battle was over he was no longer interested in the mundane tasks of the everyday soldier. General Grant developed a very heavy drinking habit and resigned his commission in 1854. Once the Civil War began he enlisted in the Union Army and was promoted to brigadier general.
Before the war America alludes to the period between 1780-1860 which was referred to Antebellum America. This period was a time when people were torn between continuing slavery and people who was in support of slavery ending. The people that was in favor of fighting for the rights of ending slavery where called Abolitionist. In addition, this period saw a shift in financial action in both the north and the south.
The Civil War was a controversial war due to the difference of opinion of the states. Texas involved themselves with the bitter side, even though most of the odds were stacked against them. What prompted them to do this? Aside from it being located in the south, Texas fought in the Civil War because its views of states’ rights, slavery, and sectionalism were the exact same as the rest of the Confederate states, and not the Union states. Texas felt that states’ rights were very important when it came to protecting its people.
Given the widespread availability of information today, students no longer need teachers to lecture to them on the causes of the Civil War, for example, because that information is readily available—and often in more engaging formats that a typical classroom lecture. For this reason, educators should use in-school time to teach students how to find, interpret, and use information, rather than using most or all of the time to present
According to the website 'www.loc.gov ', in paragraph 4, it says that "African American slaves had no such control and they worked under constant supervision and the threat of physical punishment by their overseers. " This explains why the Civil War happened, and before that, it was very racial back in the 17th century. I think that the whites thought that the African Americans were different than them and decided to take advantage. Another sentence in paragraph 4 says "Indeed, no matter how kindly a slave owner might have been, the slaves did not possess that which Americans most prized, their freedom."
Before the American Civil War, we struggled with the concept of slavery based on our economic and moral differences. People who lived in the North believed that slavery should be abolished since they did not grow crops that needed an abundance of slaves. Moreover, they thought that slaves should be treated like all human beings based on the constitution. On the other side, Americans who lived in the South thought slavery should not be abolished as their crops demanded twice as much work than the ones in the North; therefore, they needed much more workers working in their field and that’s where slaves came into view. They also thought that Africans were inferior because of their skin color and origin.

If the enduring vision of America is embodied in the Declaration of Independence's statements about equality and universal rights to justice, liberty, and self-fulfillment, how much progress toward those ideals had blacks and women made by 1877?

The constitution states “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” What this means is All men are equal and no race or peoples are different from any other peoples. The constitution is also stating that we have natural rights given by god and can not be taken away from anyone. Post Civil War, African Americans started to gain rights to gain rights, and soon gain rights equal to whites. While there were some people/things standing in their way (KKK, Black Codes), in the end they got what they needed; Equality. Many acts and laws were passed to aid the new rights now held by African Americans, as well as the numerous people willing to help. New Amendments were added to give African Americans rights after the war, all giving them some equal rights to whites. The first of the three added was the Thirteenth Amendment, it gave African Americans freedom from slave owners, and stated that no one could be kept as a slave in the U.S..
The American Revolution brought independence to slaves, colonists, Native Americans, and women. The Revolutionary War made the United States and France allies go against Great Britain. France made a choice to assist the United States military until they received independence from Great Britain. The Revolution had a huge part in slavery, such as bringing conflict between slavery and liberty because the North prohibited slavery. The South did not believe that slavery should be abolished.
Before the civil war African Americans were enslaved forced to work on plantations. They were treated harshly, and faced many different hardships. This would change after the civil war, because they were granted their freedom. They were no longer forced to work on plantations, but that does not mean they were treated any better. After the civil war African Americans were still treated poorly and faced persecution for many years.
