America needs DREAMers What would you think of one piece of legislation that would improve the US standing in the global economy, would help with the economic growth internally in the US, improves the military readiness of the nation and will help in the fight against terrorism and improve homeland security? Such a piece of legislation exists and is called the DREAM act. Passing the DREAM act into law is for the best interest of the country on several levels, of which I will explore a few of. In 2001, the DREAM act was first conceived and somewhat forgotten due to the terrorist attacks of September 11th. It was reintroduced to Congress in 2009; its purpose is to fast track the possibility of US citizenship for those brought to this country …show more content…
Army base in Kuwait where he is currently deployed. When asked about the dream, act he says "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" That 's the meaning of the DREAM act. It 's in our constitution. Very clear. America means this to many of us. That 's why we are unique in this world”. (Avellaneda) Born in Bogota Colombia, Major Ladino’s citizenship was fast tracked not through the DREAM act but with the military’s MAVNI program, which is very similar to DREAM. His US citizenship, which would have normally taken 10 years, able to be achieved in months due to his active duty status with the US Army. Nevertheless, Major Ladino makes one thing very clear: “joining the US Army reserve wasn’t just about becoming a citizen, it was about giving back to those protecting our freedoms.” (Avellaneda) Major Ladino serves as internal medicine doctor for the US army, and as a civilian, he is an Internal Medicine, Nephrologist, and Transplant Nephrologist for the VA Medical Center in Miami, Florida. The DREAM act will increase those who join for military service, which then will increase the homeland security safety in the face of possible terrorism, as well country’s military preparedness on a
Travis Manion, a Marine Corps officer, was an assignment I was given to study before I went the Marine Corp’s Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy during the summer of my tenth grade year to have background knowledge on before we spoke to his family. Travis Manion gave his life to save his Marines in combat and on American soil, as told by his sister and family, who travels the country to tell his story, Travis Manion always lived by his motto: “If not me, then who…”. When asked by his loved ones who doesn’t he just let someone else go to combat instead of always volunteering to go Manion always told them, “If I don’t go, someone less qualified then me might have to go, or someone younger with less experience will have to go to take my place.
Roger and I share the same definition of the American dream where everyone has an equal opportunity to achieve one 's goals. Roger’s goal was to help his family move to a safer city and he was able to achieve that goal. If Roger did not come to America he might have not been able to achieve that goal. Becoming a citizen of the United State has had a huge impact on Roger life. When Roger first came to America, it was like starting a new life, he had nothing.
The Dream Act is a bill that was introduced back in 2009. This bill was created to give undocumented people a chance to become permeant residence in the United States. There are steps that they must take to become eligible for the
The DREAM Act: a bill that should be passed before the next elections Two senators first introduced the DREAM Act in congress. Senator Dick Durbin of the Democratic Party and senator Orrin Hatch of the Republican Party came together to form a plan and introduce this bill to congress. Ever since the early 1940s, young men across the country have been forced to enlist in the selected services. Regardless of these men’s plans for the future, it was expected of them to lay down their lives for their country. While the military draft was intended to strengthen the American army, it also strengthened the arguments made by antiwar protestors. Why should people have to die for a cause they do not believe in? This was the question numerous American citizens were asking themselves throughout the entirety of the Vietnam War.
The American dream should be restored to its former glory. Politicians are using the American dream as a ploy to get votes by promising us they’re something to believe in, and that they can make America great again. Donald
The Dream Act Introduction The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act or more commonly referred to as “The Dream Act”, made its debut as a bill some 16 years ago, during the Bush Administration. In the years passed the bill has been call for several votes but has yet to prevail. There the bill sit waiting to become law. The Dream Act in its original form, contained such language that would provide thousands of immigrant children the opportunity to receive U.S. Residency (a “Green Card”). The Dream Act would have ultimately allowed children born to immigrant/undocumented parents within U.S. boarders the ability to serve in the U.S. military or person a degree in higher education, began a career and even get a driver’s license.
The Declaration of Independence protects this American Dream. The Founding Fathers put into law the revolutionary idea that each person's desire to pursue happiness was not just self-indulgence. The American Dream legally protects every American's right to achieve their potential. This charm has drawn millions of immigrants to U.S. shores. It's also been a compelling vision for other nations to follow suit.
“The DREAM Act would permit certain immigrant students who have grown up in the U.S. to apply for temporary legal status and to eventually obtain permanent legal status and become eligible for U.S. citizenship if they go to college or serve in the U.S. military” (nilc.org) This act will give young adults an opportunity to go to school/college. Many immigrant parents come here so their children can have a better life, to accomplish something they couldn’t, and with that being said the DREAM Act allows that to happen. “More than half of the undocumented immigrant population has a high school degree or higher” (americanprogress.org). According to a 2009 Pew Research Center’s Hispanic Trends Project study, 52 percent of undocumented immigrants have a high school diploma or higher and 15 percent have a bachelor’s degree or higher, this is also increasing the literacy rate in America. Not only that but “At least $329 billion and 1.4 million jobs would be added to the American economy over the next two decades if the DREAM Act became law.”
The praises that you receive shouldn’t be based on the mere fact that you join but maybe for those who actually wants to serve and protect. In contrast, he says “Make that choice without looking back to see the cheering faces of those who tell you your duty is to do what they are not doing for purposes you may not know nor share” (Gillman 680). None the less, the author let the reader know that these young men and women risk their own lives for purposes which may not be of any value to themselves or the country. As a result, those purposes doesn’t deserve the praises that are

So, we must distance ourselves from the false view of the Dream we’ve created. The American Dream is available to all
No matter who you are or where you have come from, you have undoubtedly heard of the American Dream. The idea that no matter who you are or where you have come from, you can do whatever it is you desire in America. What was once one the main driving forces for immigrants to flock to the new world, has slowly changed over the years, but still holds its value in the eyes of those who are looking for a promising new place to live. The American dream might not hold the same awe inspiring sound that it once did, but for many generations before ours it was a beacon of hope that helped build the foundation that the United States was built on. And, still, today the American dream might not be as achievable as it once was, but it is still an important
