Snapchat: The Latest Teen Pleasure or Parent’s Worst Nightmare
Technology has made great advances in the past few years on a global scale. Works of fiction and informational text have addressed the numerous influences of modern innovation. Technological advances can have great benefits and many drawbacks to society.
In Ray Bradbury’s short story “The Veldt”, the Happylife House makes life easier in a number of ways. It cooks their meals, ties their shoes, and entertains the children(Bradbury). Essentially, it made everyone’s life a great deal easier in every aspect. Similarly, social media today gives people a quick and easy way to interact with old friends, distant family, and catch up with the latest on everything. If something were degrading or insulting, one is able to screenshot it, block a user or report inappropriate activity(What). Just like the Happylife House, Snapchat makes some

Snapchat is virtually a free ride for children to disobey their parents just like how the nursery in “The Veldt” makes it a piece of cake for Wendy and Peter to disobey (or likewise, kill) their parents(Bradbury). Kids can send inappropriate things on Snapchat and their parents have no way of viewing it. “The fact that the messages don't last makes texting feel like a game, and it offers a sense of freedom: Kids can share the silly, fleeting moments of the day that don't rise to the level of, say, an Instagram or Facebook post that documents their lives (What).” In a matter of seconds, it’s gone. In “The Veldt”, the children have a very easy way to get rid of the evidence of the fact that they directed that dreadful room to do away with their parents. They simply have to think of killing the psychologist and the nursery would do the rest(What). High-tech software like Snapchat is giving today’s children the idea that they no longer have to listen to
This story remains me to The Veldt, the first story of the book. In both stories, the characters resort to the use of technology to have a better life, but the abuse of technology did not have good results and at the end when the characters wanted to do something about it was too late. Again Ray Bradbury with his stories tells how the use of the technology is not always the best option.
So with all of this information the parents in, “The Veldt,” shouldn’t have purchased a house with an excessive amount of technology. They also shouldn’t have allowed their kids ' to play with the VR everyday, all day. This is why I believe that the parents are to incriminate for their own eradications in the story, “The Veldt.” Based on the research that I have done, I strongly believe that technology is destroying our humanity. We need to change this.
This is a short story written in the 1950s about a fictional house that does everything from sweeping the floors to cooking the Hadley family’s food. In the short story, “The Veldt,” Bradbury uses personification and foreshadowing to prove that becoming over-dependent on technology can lead to horrific outcomes.
Transported into the future, Ray Bradbury paints a picture in the reader’s head of the Happy Life Home, filled with technology to fit everyday needs. A family, mom, dad, and two kids, start to slowly fall apart because of being surrounded with technology. In The Veldt, Bradbury uses multiple examples of author’s craft such as personification and tone or mood to help prove and point out a theme included in his story. His theme contained in the story is, influencing children with so much technology early on can not only stir up violent thoughts but, can also cause breaks between friend and family relationships. The first author’s craft that can prove this theme to be true is personification.
Ray Bradbury’s “The Veldt” teaches readers that people are scared of change. In the short story, the parents feel like they have no use as a result of the Happylife Home taking care of the children by itself without the need for their parents. The parents dislike the change of not having to care for their own children, which causes them to feel useless. Although, some disagree and say that the main theme of the story is abandonment. The children were abandoned by their parents and nursery.
Language “The Veldt” Notes Preposition: Characters in the story George Hadley is the father. He is stricter than Lydia. He admires the HappyLife Home, however, he notices that the house overpowers the jobs of the parents. Lydia Hadley is the mother. She is less disciplinary than George.
“The Veldt” is a unique and universal short story by Ray Bradbury. This story’s universal theme is family because there are many family conflicts in the story. “The Veldt” is unique because of the way technology is portrayed and how much power that technology has over the family. In “The Veldt” the universal theme is family because there are many family conflicts in the story.
Forty million people a day view Instagram stories, 79% of teenagers use Snapchat once a day, and 51% use it at least eleven times a day. In fact, teenagers use on average five screens a day (Patel, “10 Tips”). The use of social media makes teenagers happier and cures their boredom after school. However, problems arise when young people find all their satisfaction on social media. All this time spent on social media and whether you get enough “likes” could result in a bad outcome and cause poor health.
Bradbury guides the reader to the conclusion that families fall apart when they spend too much time with technology and not enough time with each other. ‘The Veldt” is more applicable in today’s technology-driven world than when it was written in 1950. The reader hopefully learns that technology must be limited and not replace human interaction and hard work. If technology does everything for people, then people become unnecessary. Family roles should not be taken over by computers and robots.
Ray Bradbury’s short story “The Veldt” teaches readers that too much technology can have a bad effect on people. In the story, the Hadley family lives in a Happylife Home which has machines that do pretty much everything for them. The machines make their meals, brush their teeth and tie their shoelaces. There is even a nursery for the children that creates any world they could imagine. In the end of the story, the nursery and the family take a turn for the worse.
In today’s society, people achieve happiness through interaction with others, but in Ray Bradbury’s dystopian Novel, Fahrenheit 451, his characters believe that they need technology to enjoy their lives. People’s main priority is to be happy and have a successful life. They don’t want to have to worry about anything and just enjoy themselves. “‘You must understand that our civilization is so vast that we can’t have our minorities upset and stirred. Ask yourself, what do we want in this country, above all?
Within, “The Veldt,” Bradbury uses the minds of young children and a robotic playroom in order to show an example of the unplanned perils of technology. As well as
Children today use more technological devices and are active on social media platforms compared to children in the 1990’s. Technology plays a huge role when it comes to our daily lives. As technology continues to advance more people are becoming active on social media apps and websites. Texting and social media applications have many advancements and conveniences like easy access to information, entertainment and communicating with others. However, it also has consequences, especially for adolescents.
The Use of Social Networking Nowadays, we are living under decent technology and it has changed a lot of things: Entertainment, communication, and relationship; economy, education, and habit; medical, political and cultural etc. Social media has allowed us to interact with many more people other than we are used to before. We are living in a world where people would rather use text message with their mobile phone than face-to-face to each other, share greeting with more than hundreds of friends on the social media such as upload how they feel on Facebook, show photo Instagram, and what they are doing with Snapchat.
Businesses and organisations are relying on it and are gaining benefits from it. Communication Technology impacts on public and private life The modern methods of communication play a significant role in both our private and public life, commonly positive but they can also have negative effects. Through social networking sites, we can find people sharing the same interests as us, hence, making new friends or even finding a suitable
