Traumatic brain injuries received by Tom Buchanan while playing football at Yale have dramatically affected his behavior and emotions. If you were to ask someone what they think about Tom Buchanan, the one thing they are almost guaranteed to say is that he has problems. And they’re right. Tom is overly aggressive, supercilious and racist. Sadly, lots of people are born like this, but perhaps it is something that he developed. First, Cyrus Jones is a Division I college football player. Football players, especially at this level, experience high risk of head injuries. Concussions are very common in this sport. With the amount of trauma that can occur to the brain in this sport, it is easy to speculate that there is some sort of structural damage or change that can occur to the brain. In Cyrus Jones’ case I think there could be a chance that he could have caused some damage to his prefrontal cortex or his orbitofrontal cortex regions of his brain.
On Friday 28th June 2013 Ian Brady failed in his bid to be transferred from Ashworth high security psychiatric hospital to prison. Brady, was jailed for life in 1966 for the murder of three children and found responsible for the deaths of a number of others. An NFL football player will endure somewhere between 900 to 1500 blows to their head over the course of a single season. With an immense amount of blows like this comes an immense amount of damage to a player’s brain. Football is more dangerous than rugby in the end of all things. It has been proven that the amount of fatalities are more common in football rather than rugby. Most people you meet would say other wise, but they just think pads make a sport safe. In this case it doesn’t.
Within class, we have been discussing the topic of allowing your son to play the physical sport football. Would you allow your son to play football with having the insight of all the risks they would be taking? I would not allow my son to play football because of how physical it is. High school football has the highest rate of concussions at 47.1% over all the other sports played by high schoolers.
Anyone who has had a brain injury in the past needs to be aware of the symptoms of CTE, not only for themselves, but also for the people around them. Football causes about ten times the amount of significant brain injuries compared to other popular sports (What). A sport with as much violence as football needs to be taken seriously. Children who are not aware of the consequences and the magnitude of the injuries they can sustain need to be protected.

Hard hits to a player's head can cause his or her brain to move in different ways which can cause brain bruising or bleeding. A hard hit to a player’s forehead causes the brain to accelerate in a back and forth motion that can make a player feel nauseous or unstable. If the hit is focussed in the left or right side of a player's forehead it can cause the brain to move in a twisting motion which will leave the player light headed and with a headache.
