The purpose of this experiment was to identify the two components of an unknown mixture through diverse experimental techniques such as recrystallization, extraction, melting point, and acid-base reactions. From this, the group to which these two compounds belong to had to be determined. These groups are: Carboxylic Acids, phenols, and neutrals. By determining the melting points of the two unknown compounds, these values were compared to the values of melting points in the chart and the proper compound was selected. For the case of this experiment, the unknown mixture contained, 4-methylbenzoic acid.

Since the volatility of o-toluic acid is almost the same as water, it takes longer for the compound to dry at room temperature. Nevertheless, the procedure for removing the acid was performed successfully. The melting point for o-toluic acid was discovered to be 99.2° – 101.1° C, which is lower than the literature melting point of 102°-104° C. However, there is not a huge discrepancy and obtained substances usually have lower melting points than the stated literature melting
The difference in this chemical and physical properties will aid in their separation. Processes like solubility, gravitational filtration and recrystallization will be used to separate the substances present in Panacetin. The melting and boiling point of the substances will help in concluding on which of these compounds will be presented at the end of experiment. Procedure and observation The Panacetin content was weighed approximately 3.0493g and transferred to the Erlenmeyer flask; 75ml of dichloromethane (CH¬2CL2) was added to the content. The dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) dissolved the sucrose, leaving the active unknown agent and aspirin behind.
TLC was used to identify the actual unknown product as well as other products/reactants present in the filtered solution. The procedure was conducted by placing a TLC plate in a developing chamber that is filled with a small amount of solvent. The solvent cannot be too polar because it will cause spotted compounds on the TLC plate to rise up too fast, while a very non-polar solvent will not allow the spots to move. The polarity of the spots also determines how far it moves on the plate; non-polar spots are higher than polar ones. After spots on the TLC form, the Rf values are calculated and used to analyze the similarity of the compounds.
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to synthesize the component of strawberry fragrance – methyl trans-cinnamate. This reaction is accomplished by a Fischer esterification of methanol and trans-cinnamic acid refluxed for 1 hour

Once with Tylenol, Anacin, acetaminophen and acetylsalicylic acid samples spotted separately and once with the unknown samples co-spotted with the known samples. The goal is to identify the main chemical components in Anacin and Tylenol, either acetaminophen or acetylsalicylic acid. Silica (SiO2) gel will be used as the stationary phase and an ethyl acetate (C4H8O2) containing 0.5% acetic acid (CH3COOH) solution will be used as the mobile phase. The molecular structures of the stationary and mobile phases are shown in Figures 1 and 2. The stationary phase is polar protic and the strongest intermolecular force present is hydrogen bonding.
HYPOTHESIS; This investigation involves the comparison of 3 different bases which might be the active elements of some antacids; drugs which are taken to relieve heartburn. As such, the sets of experiment will involve subjecting the 3 bases to the same conditions. In fact, for a set of experiments, the variables of surface area, concentration, amount, temperature and catalysis will be controlled. Another controlled variable is the volume and concentration of the acid. The aim of this investigation is to determine which of the 3 bases can be ideal for which conditions relating to heartburn.
Through the extraction process, the mixture was separated into its pure benzocaine and benzoic acid portions. This could be proven by matching the melting points of the substituents obtained at the end of the lab to the average melting points found in several chemistry databases. In other words, the melting points of the purified benzocaine and benzoic acid compounds (93.2˚C and 131˚C, respectively) reflect a similar melting points to the documented 89˚C and 122.41˚C of the pure compounds found in nature. Although, the results was collected smoothly, the possibilities of errors are still existent. One source of error could aroused when light brown clouding forms at the interface of the two layers during acid extraction of benzocaine.
Sodium picosulphate: An effective laxative as colorectal cleanser in colonoscopy preparation Introduction Colonoscopy is a powerful diagnostic tool against several conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, colonic polyps, and colon cancers Bhandari P, Inadequate bowel cleansing is associated with numerous negative consequences. ( Park JB) The important barriers for the failure of colonoscopy include patient refusal to undergo colonoscopy and inadequate bowel cleansing. In the both the cases, patients unwillingness or intolerance to the preparation are important causes for the failure (Love J) . Patients prefer regimen that has better taste, low side-effects, and having manageable fluid intake (Bhandari P)).
Foyle food group’s logo and mission statement is ‘Making choice Easy’ and this helps the image of the company. Foyle food group are a part of business in the community and that identifies companies having a positive impact on the community, environment, marketplace and workplace and this makes the company stand out from other companies because they are helping the community and giving back. Foyle Food Group has launched a major new re brand of its entire operations, refreshing and simplifying its logo and branding to help it compete in an increasingly global marketplace. Three of the five sites operated by the group have been renamed to provide greater brand identity, including troubled plant Omagh Meats (now Foyle Omagh), Donegal Meat Processors
Upon cooling, it was shaken until no bubbles were formed. 20 mL of each brand of soft drinks was titrated with NaOH solution. 3 drops of phenolphthalein was used as an indicator if it has already completely reacted. The acidity can then be calculated referring on the known concentration and volume of base; and the known volume of acid.
Long duration of heating will loosen the bond between central atom and ligands. Characteristic of acetone is to increase the formation of complex. There is error in the acetone provided thus causing the adding steps of acetone to dissolve all the complex formed in the experiment. Sodium acetate trihydrate, as a base in this experiment, causing acetylacetone to lose a proton to form acetylacetone anion, acac-. Manganese has wide range of oxidation state from +7 to -1, however, in aqueous solution, manganese with +2 oxidation state is most stable and common.
Abstract The unknown concentration of benzoic acid used when titrated with standardized 0.1031M NaOH and the solubility was calculated at two different temperatures (20◦C and 30◦C). With the aid of the Van’t Hoff equation, the enthalpy of solution of benzoic acid at those temperatures was determined as 10.82 KJ. This compares well with the value of 10.27KJ found in the literature.
