Tools for Effective Twitter Marketing I am writing my book review on Twitter Marketing, An Hour a Day by Hollis Thomases. She is a Cornell University graduate and has over 20 years of experience in the sales and marketing fields. In 1998, she founded her own company Web Ad.vantage to help companies acquire more business on a digital platform back when having a website was not common. She wanted to create a way to spread strategic marketing plans for businesses to a wider audience. Thomases is a known expert of social media marketing and in 2007, she was selected for the “Small Business Woman of the Year” award in the state of Maryland. In 2008, she received the “Enterprising Woman of the Year” award. Twitter Marketing, An Hour a Day offers businesses informative strategies on how to develop a marketing plan using Twitter. It reiterates many topics we have covered in class, including analytics, setting goals, and crisis management. It begins with an in-depth description and background of Twitter to familiarize new users with this new social media platform. It moves to fundamentals and how to navigate through the Twitterverse. Next is a description of developing and launching a strategic plan. Lastly, she shows the importance of maintaining a presence on Twitter. Thomases explains that gaining followers just does not happen, it takes hard work and an understanding of your target audience. The use of hashtags can be helpful when trying to spread a catchy phrase that will not only attract followers but spread a positive message along with a social media marketing campaign. Avoid sending auto-direct messages to followers because it does not come off as personal and it may possibly contradict previous conversations.
