Unemployment Benefits in America Currently in America the unemployment rate is 5.1% which is the lowest it has been since 2008. This unemployment rate shows the total number of people in the labor force compared to the people in this labor force that are not working. The labor force is made of unemployed and employed workers in America. The unemployment rate is collected and monitored very closely because it is a big indicator on how our economy is doing. The higher the rate is the less money families are making which means they are also sending less. On the other hand, when the rate is low

Many companies have been seeing a trend in new hires trying to get fired or quitting after training in hopes of regaining their unemployment benefits. However, these people are the not the majority of the people receiving benefits. Unemployment was designed with two goals in mind according to The Unemployment Benefits System, “To provide a weekly check to workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. To promote economic stability by rewarding those employers who minimize their workforce turnover, and by maintaining the flow of dollars through the economy even when there is widespread unemployment.” This system is not only helping people in need after losing their jobs. It is now being used to commit fraud against the Department of …show more content…
The first requirement is that the person must really be unemployed. This means that a person can’t work part-time or run their own business on the side. They must also go claim the benefits at their local state employment office. If they do not respond to letters or requests that the government sends them then they will get their benefits taken away. Next they have to show that they are trying to get a job. This can be shown by filing applications, showing up for interviews and accepting jobs they are offered. Finally, they must be ready physically and mentally to work. Meaning that they aren’t doing anything that would hinder them from starting a job like going on a long vacation, going to school, or mentally/physically
“By contrast, unemployed Americans face numerous health challenges beyond loss of income.” (Source 3). Free healthcare would take away numerous health challenges, since they will be given healthcare no matter what. “The unemployed tend to have higher levels of impaired mental health including depression, anxiety, and stress.” (Source 6).
It’s understandable that people will get fired or let go sometimes but they shouldn’t just be handed money until they die. I think that welfare should only be a temporary fix, like it was intended to be, not a life-long thing. Unemployed citizens should only be able to receive welfare check for a short period of time, long enough for them to be able to find a job. Welfare was meant to be a good system to help others during a hard time, but it was not meant to fund the unplowed until death, and it was not meant to put the working class in debt either. There are many small fixes to this problem, but not enough people who see that this systems rules and regulations need to be

Conclusion Due to the economic setbacks of the early 2000s, local revenue was down which led to many states decreasing many of the “supplemental work programs” that supported TANF and the Work to Welfare program up until that time. There were many states that had used all of their surpluses they were able to save in the 1990s which also led to more cutbacks in the federal grants-in-aid to state, local and other federal domestic programs. Because of the cutbacks,
The term “We’re firing not hiring” was used a lot when people would go and try to get jobs (Hayes). The term was coined because they were firing most of their workers so they did not have to pay as many people in an effort to make as much money that they could keep. People were forced to take any and all jobs that they could (Hastings). Their were not many jobs though, so people created jobs for themselves (Hastings). They did all of the work that people did not want to do themselves and that they would pay said person to do it for them.
Recommendation 1: Work requirement must be mandatory in order to receive AFDC. Problem 2: The welfare system was distributing funds with no set limits to how much benefit a person/family could receive. Recommendation 2: There should’ve been
The unemployment rate among our veterans is 6.9 percent compared to the national average of 7.3 percent according to Covert in the article, The Four Economic Challenges Veterans Face. This means that our veterans are clearly having a hard time getting employed after they retired. The military only gives veterans two years of unemployment after they release them back to the civilian life. President Barack Obama signed the "VOW to Hire Heroes Act" in into law in 2011 telling companies that they would receive tax credit if they were to hire a veteran who’s been unemployed for four weeks, and that he was also willing to give even a higher tax break to those companies if that would to hire a veteran who’s been unemployed for six months. As Compton mentioned, ‘This is just one of the initiatives the President has enacted in order to ensure that the country fulfills its obligation to our service members and their families (Compton, 2011).’

Eligible employees must have made a minimum amount of money during the most recent prior benefit year. To collect unemployment benefits, a person also must make a reasonable effort to find work during the period of unemployment. Not everyone who leaves a job is eligible to receive unemployment benefits. An applicant may not receive benefits if the
Providing welfare benefits has been controversial throughout U.S. history. Since the colonial period, government welfare policy has reflected the belief that the indigent are responsible for their poverty, leading to the principle that governmental benefits are a privilege and not a right. Until the Great Depression of the 1930s, state and local governments bore some responsibility for providing assistance to the poor. Generally, such assistance was minimal at best, with church and volunteer agencies providing the bulk of any aid.
The unemployment rate remains at 12.1%. For severely injured veterans like Lewis, unemployment rates increase significantly. There are over 16,000 wounded veterans, and more than a quarter of them are unemployed at 26.9%. Rehabilitation specialists say that every month an injured veteran goes without employment, their chances of finding work significantly decreases. For wounded veterans, directly finding employment seems nearly impossible.

Veteran’s Benefits Veteran’s pay a heavy price for our freedom, but do we in turn repay them back? Once veteran’s return home they receive several benefits, such as education, disability compensation, and low-cost medical care. Each are specific due to how they benefit each veteran, but not all are capable of fully providing the veteran. Unemployment happens when individuals are without work and effectively looking for work.[1] The unemployment rate is a measure of the pervasiveness of unemployment and it is figured as a rate by separating the quantity of unemployed people by all people presently in the work power. Amid times of recession, an economy more often than not encounters a generally high unemployment rate.[2] According to International Labor Organization report, more than 200 million individuals universally or 6% of the world 's workforce were without a vocation in 2012 There remains significant hypothetical civil argument with respect to the reasons, outcomes and answers for unemployment. Traditional financial matters, New established financial aspects, and the Austrian School of financial matters contend that market instruments are solid method for determining unemployment.
