Valley Forge: Would You Have Quit? December 1777-June 1778. Valley Forge-Washington’s winter camp. Washington and the Continental Army. Valley Forge was a difficult place to live at. Some Patriots are staying but others are leaving. I would stay at Valley Forge because only 15% of people died, there is help on it's way, and the journal entry from Dr.Albigence Waldo a connecticut surgeon. Only 15% of people at Valley Forge died. Only 1,800 of 12,000 died. Which was around 15% of people or in other words not a lot of people died you had a 85% chance to survive. Around 50% of people got sick. You had a better chance at getting sick than dying. Then people started to become immune to the sickness and sickness numbers did not rise as high. In …show more content…

“Congressmen stayed several weeks.” Congress tried to help out the army in any way it could. “Congress was helpful in getting more food and clothing.” Congress helped in hunting animals and bringing clothing to the troops. I think congress was helping them feel healthier, stronger, and more heated during the winter. In the picture it looked like George Washington was trying to persuade the congress to help them. I got all of my evidence for ¨There is help on its way¨ from Document B. The journal entry from Dr.Albigence Waldo who was a Connecticut surgeon. “I am sick”, “Poor food”, “Cold weather”, “Vomit half my time”, “Soldier has bare feet”, ¨Hard lodging¨, ¨Fatigue¨, ¨Nasty cloathes¨, ¨Nasty cookery¨, ¨smoak´d out of my senses¨, ¨The devil's in´t¨, and ¨Sent here to starve and freeze.¨ Those are all the hardships described by Dr. Waldo in his journal entry on December 14,1777. Dr. Waldo and the Continental Army didn’t quit due to their “Spirit of Alacrity.” Not a lot of people quit but they still showed cheerful willingness.
