On February 9, 1999 Hae Min Lee was found in Leakin Park, Baltimore, Maryland with signs of manual strangulation. The state claimed that Adnan Syed, Hae’s former boyfriend at the time was responsible because they believed he was enraged of their relationship ending. My claim is Adnan Syed is likely not responsible for the death of Hae Min Lee, because there was insufficient evidence to prove he was guilty and the trial was unfair, it was based more on his racial background than the actual case itself. Adnan can be proved innocent with Don’s odd alibi and suspicions. The day Hae went missing authorities asked Don of his whereabouts and he provided an alibi. Don’s alibi was that he was working at his job at Lenscrafters, and was filling for …show more content…
When Hae’s body was found in Leakin Park, she was laying on her side and twisted. After she was found the medical examiners and the forensic pathologists who reviewed her body and the crime scene claimed her body showed it was in a face down position and stretched out for eight to ten hours, which explains fixed frontal lividity. Lividity takes place after death, when all the blood pools from the victim’s body shift to a part of the body closest to the ground. The reason this evidence was not used in trial was likely because the explanation of the lividity proves she was moved to the burial site after lividity had become permanent, which means her body was not dumped in Leakin Park at around 7pm and she was hidden in a place with her body laid flat for eight to ten hours before buried in Leakin Park. What this autopsy report shows, anyone who is guilty of a murder would likely bury the body as quickly as possible as opposed to hiding the body hours …show more content…
In episode 10, Koenig presents evidence anti-Muslim prejudice played a definite role at different points in Adnan's case. For example when prosecutor Vicki Wash kept referring to Adnan as a Pakistani, instead of Pakistani American, and then stated a pattern of cases where Pakistanis kill women and flee back to their home country. And when she claimed that because Adnan had strong support from the community, he had limitless resources of the entire community and as well claimed that he can tag resources from Pakistan as well. Wash also compared Adnan’s case to another teenage boy named Samuel Sheinbein, who was accused of murdering another teenager in the year 1997 and then fled to Israel. The focus of Adnan’s case was to prove if he was guilty or innocent, not to talk about his race or compare him to other serial killers who are also his race. If a juror during court trying to prove the victim is either guilty or innocent talks more about the victim’s race than the actual case itself, it is considered
A High school student was thrown in jail for murdering his ex girlfriend. But was it really him or was it someone who misled the cops? Is an innocent man serving time in prison for a crime he did not commit? Jay Wilds killed Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, a 17 year old boy, was convicted of murdering his ex girlfriend, Hae Min Lee.
Obsidian Mekediak Tyler Bonnette RD 117 19 Dec 2022 Rhetorical Analysis of Sarah Koenig’s ‘Serial’ Adnan Syed was convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee February 25, 2000. Syed has claimed his innocence since he was arrested. Syed’s conviction was based on Jay Wilds’ testimony. Wilds claimed Syed had strangled Hae Min Lee, and convinced Wilds to help bury her body. Sarah Koenig’s initial purpose of creating the podcast ‘Serial’ and investigating the conviction of Adnan Syed for the murder of Hae Min Lee was to conclude if the state's case against Syed was flawed and in doing that, Koenig was successful.
The Undisclosed Podcast then discovered that Gutierriez may have actually requested testing of the DNA, but the request was mad too late. This could be seen as another example of Gutierrez's neglect for the case. Gutierrez continued to neglect the case; whether it was the alibi that Asia provided that could have finally cemented where Adnan was on the day Hae went missing, to her choice of not disputing the cell tower records because they records were stated by an expert to not be valid in a court of law. The question that must now be asked is: How many other cases have had these same flaws and therefore how many innocent people are in prison?
Adnan Syed couldn’t have killed his former high school girlfriend, Hae Lee, 20 years ago: “I know it’s physically impossible for people to be in two places at one time.” Syed, the subject of Sarah Koenig’s hit podcast “Serial” and Amy Berg’s HBO docuseries “The Case Against Adnan Syed,” was convicted of killing Lee, his ex-girlfriend, in 1999. But McClain, who was never called to testify during the first trial, said she had a 20-minute conversation with Syed in their high school’s library at the same time prosecutors say Lee was murdered”. Another witness who testified to seeing Adnan was Rabia, She claims to have gone into the library and saw Adnan printing papers, they even managed to chat for a bit, As Koenig comments, “And she told me, that
Adnan Syed was convicted of killing Hae min Lee in 1999 in Baltimore, Maryland. The call logs provide incriminating stats that prove Adnan killed Hae which shows motive behind Haes murder. Adnan Syed swears to have not remembered any events that went on the night before and the night of the slaughtering of Hae Min Lee; however, based on the call logs Adnan called Hae three times the night before she was kidnapped
Did you know that a man named Adnan Syed has been in jail for over fifteen years, for the murder of a woman named Hae Min Lee, and several friends and family members are still fighting for him to be released out of jail? In 1999 a seventeen year old boy, Adnan Syed, was convicted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. Hae’s body was found in Leakin Park; a place where many people are found dead and bodies are usually disposed there. This case had no physical or DNA evidence, just testimonies. Even after fifteen years of being in jail, Adnan still claims he is innocent.
The cell records assumed a critical part in the conviction of Syed in the state's case. The Nisha call demonstrates that Syed and Jay were, truth be told, together and in this manner, Jay would know data that could be valid and that Syed, or if nothing else his cellphone, was around Leakin Park where Lee was covered. This shows how the state's case was honest and genuine using confirmation, for example, cellphone record that can't be modified or changed. This likewise illustrates, and negates, claims that race was a noteworthy player in the conviction of Syed because of the way that he was a Muslim in a dark dominant part case setting. The state common reasonable proof in Syed that, I accept, ought not be viewed as one-sided towards racial
This was quite the battle for Adnan Syed, a young oriental male who was accused of murdering his long-time girlfriend in January of 1999. Hae-Min Lee, Adnan’s girlfriend, went missing in January and her body was found buried in a local park 3 weeks later. Adnan Syed is innocent of killing Hae-Min Lee because of three reasons: Cristina Gutierrez, Adnan’s lawyer, failed to put him in a position to win the trial, Jay is not an effective witness, and the window of time does not match up. Adnan is not at fault
I believe Jay Wilds is a prime example of with the law for the reason that in the beginning he doesn’t say anything about what happens the day of Hae’s murder. Then, a few weeks past and he tells the story of what happened, how and why Adnan wanted to kill her, helping him bury his body and tells everything went down in the Best Buy parking lot. I believe Jay lied to the police to help himself because he didn’t want to deal with the consequences. I think he was involved in Hae’s murder for the reason being because there was more evidence linking Jay to the murder than Adnan although the only evidence towards Adnan is Jay. In serial episode 4, “Inconsistencies”, Jennifer, Jay’s friend discusses the night of Hae’s murder and what really went
While Adnan wasn’t black the staggering numbers that a majority of blacks were in prison coupled with the Super Predator act of the 90’s had clear marks throughout the serial pod-cast but Koenig simply chooses that it’s not important. Although with the overwhelming fact, the truth is mass incarcerations happened to blacks as well as minorities, but with Adnan being Muslim in the 90’s didn’t mean he would be under suspicion to commit
Relationships, lies, murder, conviction. These are all aspects that come into play when talking about the January 13th, 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was convicted of her murder in 2000. The problem with this is that the only evidence the state had to convict Adnan was the stories told by others, specifically someone named Jay who was with Adnan for some of the day Hae went missing and had possession of Adnan’s car and cell phone. He claims Adnan made him come pick him up after the murder was committed and assist him in burying Hae’s body.
Pride and Jealousy are very powerful things! Some people will go to the farthest limits to preserve their own ego and selfish desires. The Serial Podcast by Sarah Koenig is about the very complex murder of Hae Min Lee on January 13th, 1999. Many different people are brought into the Hae Lee case but the one that sticks out the most is Adnan Syed. On the day of January 13th, 1999 Hae Min Lee was strangled to death by Adnan Syed with the assistance of Jay Wilds.
Of course, many people think Adnan Syed is guilty of murdering Hae by contradicting himself, by saying, “I am in here for my own mistakes.” He might have been on the edge of confessing his guilt until Sarah caught this and asked what he meant, and quickly recovers from his mistake. Adnan also slips his tongue by saying that he wants people to only look at the evidence, and not his personality. If I were convicted of a crime I would certainly like to have my personality be looked at, if I were innocent. So they could see what good I have done.
Robbing Half of Someone’s Life: Adnan’s Story According to NBCNews, "Of the people wrongly convicted for homicides more than two-thirds were minorities, including half who were African American (Hause and Melber). " It's unbelievable that innocent people spend many years in a place where they don't deserve to be. Now there might be another name added to this list of wrongly convicted, Adnan Syed. In 1999, he was accused of the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, and was found guilty due to one testimony.
