John Steinbeck a powerful writer once said “Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts… Perhaps the fear of a loss power”. This quote by John Steinbeck basically means that sometimes the thought of the loss of power can inflict fear and that would basically lead to corruption. The fear of the loss of that power would corrupt the persons mind and they would eventually want more power. There are many ways to connect this to. I can connect this quote to the book that we are currently reading which is “The Pearl”. The universal theme that could be used to connect to the quote is power and corruption. I can also connect this quote to the universal theme Greed as downfall.

Moreover, I believe that the universal theme power and corruption would be a great universal theme that could morally represent the quote “Power does not corrupt. I believe that this quote connects to the book “The Pearl” because in the book Kino finds a pearl which he wanted to use to get help for his son Coyotito.
