There were many events that caused the colonists to declare their independence from Britain, and none are the sole trigger. However, some events played a key role, and had a greater effect than the others. The French and Indian War is the strongest yet of these. The war itself raised debts, while the aftereffects brought tensions nearly uncalled for, and great disagreements with Parliament. From there, the colonists began to view themselves less and less as British subjects. The French and Indian War was the turning point that created the new country of the United States.
The war itself put great strain on Britain. For example, Discovery states, “Much of the war effort had been paid for with borrowed money.” Fighting the French and Indians was not easy, and cause a great deal of money to be used. This means that taxes from the people being protected needed to be paid. Such taxes were the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and Townshend Act. Consequently, these acts were greatly dislike by the colonists,

Accordingly, this meant many more subjects to rule, many unwilling. As shown is Discovery, “Many [Native Americans] were willing to use violence to block English Colonists…” In the time after the western land was gained, Indians attacked multiple settlements and forts to show their dislike of the English. To amend this, the King and Parliament issued the Proclamation of 1763 that forbid any colonists from settling on land west of the Appalachian Mountains. Conversely, “...colonists remained eager to discover new lands.” As read in Discovery Education. More soldiers were sent to protect the colonists as well, and their taxes paid for the provided protection. The Quartering Act also helped house any soldiers without barracks. From these taxes and so called “unfair acts”, many rallies occurred, cries of “No taxation without representation!” being a common
The french and Indian war alter the political and ideological relations between Great Britain and the american colonies in many different ways. The war enable Britain to be more involved with colonial political and economic affairs. After the war Britain also ended their policy of salutary neglect. After a while their plan to make money of the colonies soon lead to the revolutionary war because it increased tension and outrage among the american colonies.
It made the colonists angry for many reasons. Some of these include the fact that the act could only be paid in silver, which was hard to come by, and the fact that the colonists had no representation in Parliament to represent their thoughts. They protested a lot, screaming “Taxation without representation is tyranny!” Things often became violent. Finally,
The history of America is riddled with wars. With reasons being from land rights to independence. The French and Indian War was one of the first wars within American History. This was the first war to be over land, but not the last within United States history. The French and Indian War included the French and Indians on one side, and the American and the British on the other.
The French and Indian War altered the relations of the American Colonies and Britain through political, economic, and geographical issues. At the start of the French and Indian War the French owned a big majority of land but the during the war the French lost their land to the English. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 gave the English, the French land of North America (Doc A).
Imagine what living in the American colonies during the seventeen-hundredth would be like, it was a period of chaos and instability due to the rise of a national American identity within the colonists caused by the separation between the colonies and Britain. Some major key events also contributed to the already growing tension, the French and Indian War, many unfair taxation put on the colonists by Britain, and the ratification of the Constitution. Although many lives were lost during the process, but through hard-fought battles, belief of freedom, and unity of the American colonists, everything eventually began to settle down and the colonists gained their independence from Britain, creating their own nation and their own form of government. The French and Indian War is what most considers to be what sparked the American revolution. The war was caused by disputed land along the Mississippi River between the British and the French, the American colonies, being a part of
He believed that the reason the colonists despised the sugar act was because it was a directly taxing their goods. Mr. Townshend thought it would be better to indirectly tax them through taxes on import products. The idea behind taxing the colonists was to pay for the colonial judges and governors therefore taking the chance of bribery from colonial assemblies. This also was to prove to the colonists that they could do whatever they wanted and could tax the colonists however they pleased. This was also to punish New York for disobeying the Quartering Act.
The French and Indian war also known as the seven years, war was a war between Britain and France. This war began because France had expanded into the Ohio River Valley and that had caused repeated conflict. Throughout the French and Indian War many people were involved. One of the most important people involved was George Washington. Washington was sent as an ambassador from the British crown to the French officials and Indians as far north as present-day Erie, Pennsylvania.
The war was a turning point of French forces in North America, which confirmed British controlled the half eastern part of North America. The French and Indian war was the favorable to Britain, which balance the power of occupied lands in North America.
The French and Indian War was caused by a variety of factors, including territorial disputes, economic competition, and cultural differences. The British and French both claimed the Ohio River Valley as their own, leading to a series of skirmishes and battles. Additionally, the British and French were competing for control of the fur trade, which was a major source of wealth in the region. Finally, the British and French had different cultural and religious traditions, which contributed to their mutual suspicion and distrust. The French and Indian War was characterized by a series of military engagements, diplomatic negotiations, and political maneuvering.
The French and Indian War ended in 1763, resulting in a British victory and British control of all previously French land, besides Louisiana, in North America. However, the British government was in massive debt following the war, and could not pay off the debt without procuring more funds from their citizens. This debt and future misunderstanding of specifically the colonists of the thirteen colonies is what led to the aforementioned colonists to desire independence. The British controlled much more besides the thirteen colonies.
The colonists wanted representation when it came down to being taxed, but the British government would not allow it. The government wanted full control over the people, so they made sets of acts and laws that were placed on taxation. For example, the Stamp Acts of 1765. These acts taxed all papers, pamphlets, newspapers, and cards. The Townshend Acts of 1767 were also a large part of taxation.
Soon after the Seven Years’ War, the British and the colonists learned that victory came with a rather expensive price (Kennedy, Cohen, & Bailey, 2010). Great Britain tightened its grip on the colonies in North America, expecting colonists to pay for their financial struggles. In order to make colonists pay for the war, Great Britain reminded the North American colonies who had authority by controlling the colonists to submit to various ordinances ratified by British Parliament. This action only showed that arrogance leads to rebellion socially, economically, and politically. Socially, a lack of communication between Great Britain and the North American colonies was to blame for the Revolutionary War.
The American Revolution The French and Indian War impacted the American Revolution in many ways. Britain incurred a large debt from the cost of the war and the taxes that they imposed on the colonists created feelings of anger and rebellion that led to the revolution. As a result of the French and Indian war, the British were not at full strength which allowed the actions of the colonists to be more effective. Because of the outcome of the war, France was willing to help the colonists. Without the much needed help from the French the colonist may have never won the war.
The French and Indian War was important to the American Revolution because the debt from the war was the reason that Parliament started taxing the colonists. Also, the French and Indian War made Britain very weak, making the colonists’ actions work a whole lot better. Since France was not happy with the outcome of their war with Britain this was a main reasons for France’s interest in helping the now Americans throughout the Revolutionary War, which was very important to the colonies’ victory. The reason why Britain started to tax the colonists was because of the debt resulting from the French and Indian War. The first tax was the the tax on sugar, which was put on the colonists to help pay off the war debt.
Branson D. Brewer Woodward America’s Turning Point America, the land of the free and home of the brave. Most people know that the Revolutionary War is what set The United States of America apart from Great Britain. However, the majority of people do not know what kicked off America’s lead toward gaining independence. This major step towards freedom was taken with a victory at the Battle of Saratoga. The war was not won over night.
