On October 15, 2015, we had our first book club conference. Today, we had Yasith as chairperson and we had a delightful conversation about the chapters we have read so far in the book, which are up to chapter four. The people in our group included Me, Yasith, Kushiah, Khai, Kevin, Brendan, and Arshia. Kushiah didn’t manage to finish the chapters on time and was reading as we were conferencing. He still managed to finish minutes later. The rest of us finished and continued with the conference. Yasith led the conversation as he asked us what the brief summary of what has happened to this point of the book. As a group, we found that the story began in a broken ship under the sea. Nailer, the main character, works as light crew scavenging light items such as copper and aluminum. However, one day Nailer was pressured by his boss and his crew and was forced to go into the ship to find the quota. As he was going, he lost his way and fell into an oil pocket. One of his crewmates wouldn’t help him, so he knew he had to do something himself and eventually managed to find his way out himself. However, he was brutally injured. …show more content…
Yasith, Khai and I described the personality for Nailer which he is the main character and he always tries to persevere no matter what pressure he goes through. Kushiah gave a very descriptive definition of Pima, Sloth, and Bapi. “Pima wields an iron fist but has a warm heart”, as Kushiah said. “Sloth is an evil and cut-throat competitor and will do anything to win.” Kushiah also mentioned how Bapi is described as a rude and mean person, and I mentioned that he is discourteous
He died by being shot by a former marine with PTSD and a mental condition called schizophrenia. He wanted to be a cowboy and a military man but his injuries costed him his cowboy career. So he joined the military to sereve for his country. He decided to join the Navy.
Baba’s favorite topics are politics, business, and soccer. On the other hand, Amir is weak, insecure, and timid. He likes to read and write stories instead of going outside and playing sports. Amir is not very close to his religion and culture like Baba is; the only piece of culture that Baba and Amir share a passion for is the kite flying tournament. Amir is hesitant and does not stand up for something even if he knows it is the right thing to do.
The first readings were about love. In chapter 6 of Gushee and Stassen they talk about how we love, why we love, and who we love. They talk about sacrificial love and mutual love as two different types. Then they talk about how as Christians it is our duty to spread love and love everyone even people we view as enemies. The way we learn to spread love is through the cross and what Jesus did for us.

The Heffleys then arrive at a run-down motel, at which point it is revealed that Rodrick purchased junk food instead of the healthy food

A lasso flies towards the captain's neck, he dodges but both of his arms tied by that rope and his gun fell. Since the pulling force is great he falls out the frame of the tank. A sub crew on the frame over the captain's previous position throws himself out to kick away the six-limb man out of the Ion-Bike in the air. His left hand grabs on the Ion-Bike and right hand grabs the rope fast trying to pull up the captain. But the Ion-Bike loops left a cycle and the captain swings high in the air and drops to the Ion-Bike and sits on the crew's back seat.
