Community College is a great opportunity for many to get your degree at a very cheap price. It is an opportunity for lower income families students to be successful. I simply disagree with the fact of making community college free for students because it has been proven that the success rate at America's community college's is extremely low. Furthermore, it would be a waste of time and tax dollars of hardworking middle-class Americans. As it said in the essay topic, "the success rate at America's community colleges is abysmally low. At many institutions, the dropout rate is greater than the graduation rate. If community colleges are more often dead ends rather than gateways for students, why should we encourage more students to attend them." As I said before, this will cost a lot of money. Public education is funded primarily by property tax. So taxes will go up and all property owners – whether they have college-age children or not – will, in fact, pay for the free college. Some politicians today want community college, but all colleges to be free. That simply does not work, and it will never work. Not to mention, the idea of free community college would hurt private colleges across the country. They will suffer enrollment declines and many financial hardships. In conclusion, community college is already fine as it is. The idea of making it free sounds good out loud, but in reality, the notion of a free college of any kind provides a major burden on hardworking American families, and students already drowning in college debt.
