Being an active member of a community is vital to the success of our world. Though there are many ways of contributing to the community, everyone needs to do what they can to help. There are many ways that engineers affect the community that I live in each and every day, however there are some very distinct ways that it is connected to our community. I have focused on Chemical engineering, which can be used to help agriculture. There are an endless amount of ways to help the community, so why not start with the backbone of everything. By being an active participant in the community, I have both helped and worked with many people. I have been involved in many different extracurriculars where I got to meet a lot of great people. This community has always been a part of my life, and it always will be. I will be attending Iowa State University for the next four years, after which I would like to return to this community and continue to participate in community events. …show more content…
Since learning about all of the opportunities that I am able to take advantage of through engineering, I have decided on the direction my future occupation will take. Many of the different things that I will work on include: fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. Chemicals are a protector of agriculture, by preserving all sorts of crops. I grew up on a farm, and it is by no means an easy job. Farmers face the elements each day, and by creating new ways for the crops to be preserved, the farmers will harvest a more productive
There is always opposition to pesticides because of the harm that it can cause on the environment and the animals alike. Pesticides though have saved a lot of hard work for farmers over the past couple of decades because it does all the dirty work, for example, the killing of weeds and other pests. Pesticides have also saved a lot of money for farmers by preventing pests from damaging crops or taking the nutrients and water supply away from crops. (Whitford, 7) In the future we need to start to find less toxic ways to prevent pests from attacking the crops and vegetation. This would prevent a lot of the other costs associated with pesticides for example, health costs for farmers that are exposed to the toxic chemicals or the killing of the habitats in the surrounding areas.
Some of the highlights of the Sorority were belonging to such a wonderful Sisterhood, attending my first Regional and having the opportunity to add to my leadership skills, for that I am so grateful. At this time I am the primary caregiver for my mother, working on completing a portfolio in Nonprofit Management by December 2015 and working from home. I am available to help recruit, volunteer, make referrals, and will make certain
I plan to contribute as an active participant within the Living Learning program by attending study groups and help other with my finding/ recommendations. As a Regents’ scholar, I plan to exhibit the values and friendliness of a great community member. I will be actively involved in events and programs geared towards the community goal. I expect to interact with my fellow students daily, and bring the attitude and character of what Texas A&M stands for. I will participate in as many events as my schedule will allow to create a better sense of community and maybe find a life long friend.
I became Miss Pre-Alumni for the TSU Alumni Association, elected to be Representative-at-Large for the Student Government Association and then elected again as the Speaker of the House of Student Government Association. In my Student Government positions, I created programs to encourage tutoring within the dorms, health, and new policies for student concerns. Recently, I helped create a new policy that allows proxy voting for voting members along with adding new voting members for various reasons to be allowed to vote. Through the Student Government Association, I learned how to operate through government, create and amending policies, and become a voice for the student body. Academically I was inducted into Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Upsilon Phi Delta Honor Society, Psi Chi International Honor Society, consecutively on the Dean’s List since freshman year with consecutive 4.0 GPA semesters since Sophomore year and am on track to graduate with Honors.
What is an engineer? An engineer is someone who uses math and science to design and build solutions to problems. When most people think of engineers, they don’t picture women in this role. In fact, only 11% of engineers in the United States are women.
My desire to service my hometown continues to this day, and I continue to volunteer through my city every time I come back during my school
Unlike Utilitarian ethics, a consequentialist moral theory, or Kantian ethics, a moral theory based on the alignment of one’s will and one’s duty, Aristotle’s Virtues Ethics does not discuss morality of single actions but rather “what sort of person should one be? What does it mean to live a good life?” This is important for engineers to ask a similar question in their professional career, “What does it mean to be a good engineer?” because they impact society’s ability to innovate and progress technologically, while maintaining or increasing society’s quality of life. The effects engineers have has been discussed in class, including examples like the development of the lightbulb, radio, and concrete.
I care for my school, church, and peers and work to make things better, to improve. I wholeheartedly enjoy volunteering for my church and school, and recently have become more involved in teaching and doing work planning donation drives and events. I know the community at CMU gives back and I look forward to working with my fellow honors students in the future on projects for both school and the community. I believe that as an engineer I have the ability to create, update, and improve in both my chosen field and also as a person serving the world. “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” - Winston Churchill.
I hope to bring diversity to all who walk on the campus. My background has shaped me into the intelligent African American woman I am today. Without growing up in the “hood”, I may have not been able to find the best career that interested me. I also would not have been able over all the challenges thrown at me. Instead I remained determined and motivated so that I was able to achieve all of the goals set before me.
Throughout these clubs, my team and I held many different events where I gathered a lot of valuable lessons. The Me to We club and I had held a fundraiser at our school to sell Rafikis and all the proceeds went to the We organization. The social justice club and I held many assemblies where I got a chance to speak in front of the whole school on things I was passionate about such as getting aboriginals the right of proper education and the "We Are Silent" movement. I will bring my past experiences of holding assemblies, fund raisers, festivals and such other things to raise awareness to John Fraser and help out in any which way I can. I will use my time before and after school and at lunch to meet with my team to figure out an efficient and organized way to complete our
This year is important for me; now, I am a senior In Mercy College. I remember being a freshman and not understanding the idea of what life was outside high school. The transition was scary because I had to start over again; however, the experience was worthwhile. I am grateful for Mercy College for providing me with the scholarships that I needed to further my education. I hope to own my practice as a psychologist and I am here to thank my mother for supporting my decision.
I enjoy engineering, in fact when I get older I want to become a biomedical engineer. I want to be able to help people. As well as find solutions to help people in their everyday lives. So that hopefully it would make life easier and less stressful for them. I enjoy all the problem solving that comes with engineering.
Basically it is because even though we are developing, we are This planet earth that we are living on is also one the factor of why I choose to be an engineer. Back then, human being used to live in a proper environment, lesser pollution and vary sources of energy. However, as we all know that time has changed everything, we are running out of energy. For me, the most important thing for engineer to discuss is to create new sources of energy without affecting our world. This have hurt enough and instead of hurting it more we should healing it.
The members played a big part in this personal growth of mine, as well. I was shocked when random community members would come up to me to congratulate me on a win or ask how the teams are looking. It was important for me to be assured that they care about the things I was doing. These small conversations felt like an invitation for me to start and hold meaningful conversations with adults. Some of the greatest lessons that I have taken from high school are lessons that have nothing to do with the curriculum.
Identify and fix uncertainty and risk in project proposals. Also some Engineers get their job by looking online or by applying to a company.
