“The purpose of getting power is to be able to give it away.” These are wise words once spoken by the founder of the National Honor Society, Aneurin Bevan, explaining the dynamic of the NHS. Fundamentally, the National Honor Society is an esteemed organization that recognizes the achievements of treasured students and helps them advance their influence on their community, primarily in order to help others. In my past endeavors and years spent attending school, I have surpassed expectations in the fields of academics, character, leadership and service, and intend to use the platform of National Honor Society to further advance my presence in these areas. In my academia, it is apparent that I have excelled farther than most. I have retained …show more content…
I am a natural leader, and have gained leadership skills from the multiple extracurricular activities (such as Jazz Band, Gender Equality Club, Gay Straight Alliance, Model United Nations, and Craft Club) and used them to my advantage to help lead in everyday situations as well as being appointed or reconized as a leader officially. Notably, I am the lead alto saxophone in Jazz Band II and a student leader of the Gay Straight Alliance, and I am applying for more leadership positions for my Junior year; these future possible leadership positions include a position in Secretariat in Model United Nations, section leader in marching band and president in the Gay Straight Alliance, and I feel that I have a respectable chance in these imminent leadership positions. The quality of leadership is very paramount in the decision of whether to accept students into the National Honor Society, and I feel that I fulfill expectations and go beyond in this particular …show more content…
It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” To me, National Honor Society is not for one’s own benefit; it is a selfless society, one that dedicates itself to service, and to helping others. I feel that I can excel myself and my abilities aforementioned in this essay by being a part of an organization of the NHS’s caliber; to be a part of this society would mean an even greater degree of respect from my peers, helping me in my path as a leader, and intellectually. I feel that the service, and the act of benefitting others simply because those who are fortunate should help others, is more than enough to improve my character upon joining the National Honor Society. Furthermore, assisting my community with easily accessed community service is extremely desirable in my eyes, and is one of the main reasons why I would like to join the NHS. It would be with great honor and pride if I were to be accepted into National Honor Society; I wholeheartedly hope to be accepted on the basis of my achievements in academia, character, leadership, service, and my goals for the prospect of acceptance into the
NHS has impacted my life because the organization has opened my eyes to what an honor society is. Like most members at first I believed that the organization primary focus was about the measure of one 's intelligence and persoal accolades. But, quickly I came to the understanding that the National Honor Society is an orgination whose beliefs are predicated on being a well roudned person. In life there are many narrow minded individuals, who only focus on one thing, such as money, intelligence, or success. But to be a truly well-rounded person you need to have more than one quality.
“You did it. You helped make a difference,” were the words I heard when I felt my perspective on life change. It was in that moment, standing in the hallway of my high school, holding a crisp check of $2,000 for the American Heart Association that I realized I did not need to be a superhero in order to make a difference. When I became the president of my National Honor Society(NHS) chapter, I set out to make a difference within my school. In years past, the NHS chapter at my school was not extremely active and I set out to reinvent the chapter.
Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” He believed that with determination, struggle, and intellect one can achieve the impossible. By the same token, my perseverance, dedication, and tenacity have allowed me to work with others to achieve a common goal. I strive to become a member of the National Honor Society because I possess qualities of the organization’s Character pillar, which is a worthwhile experience, and have a unique humanitarian service project idea that would follow the pillar of Service. By virtue of my trustworthiness, reliability, and courtesy towards others, I model traits of the National Honor Society's pillar of Character.
As a junior in high school, I was inducted into the National Honor Society for doing exceptionally well in my academic endeavors and actively participating in volunteer events. My contributions through this organization have made a significant impact on both my personal development and my community’s support services. The numerous volunteer projects in which I have participated have prepared me to continue helping others in the future. Through projects such as building houses from the ground-up with Habitat for Humanity, I have developed teamwork skills, discovered my management potential, and increased my social network, all while working to provide services for less fortunate individuals in my community. Some
I was taught to work hard and never give up. Leadership is also a very important pillar in the National Honor Society. A leader is a person who guides others with their actions or words and influences others in a positive way. I feel that I am a leader in many ways. I participate in many different
I am extremely honored to be eligible for this opportunity to apply for the National Honor Society. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society has been a goal I set for myself since I was a student in middle school. I have been greatly looking forward to this moment for a very long time. Overall, I have worked incredibly hard these last two years to display a positive character and obtain qualities such as leadership, responsibility, and scholarship. I strongly believe I will be a productive and reliable member of the National Honor Society at Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School.
quoted from The National Honor Society website. I want to be more than an outstanding student. I am not sure of where I want to go to college. I am interested in some sort of Neurology field, the pay is good for my future family, I love talking and learning about
Every week I spend time at the Morristown Medical Center as a volunteer, where I am able to help keep things functioning in the hospital at the highest speed possible and hopefully brighten a few patients’ days. Also, I’ve enjoyed helping refereeing youth basketball games for the past two seasons and being able to talk with the kids. It is a great opportunity to give back to a program which gave me so much in the five years I played in it when I was younger. Furthermore, I am excited for even more opportunities to have an impact on my community which being a part of National Honor Society would aid in.
It is a great honor to be nominated as a member of the National Honor Society. There are many reasons why I want to take part in NHS. One reason why I want to be in it is to continue to grow academically with people who have the same goals as me. I want to be encouraged, not discouraged by the people around me. If I get into NHS, it will give me a lot of opportunities to be a leader.
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my relentless hard work and perseverance, I believe that I possess the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
Today I am deeply humbled to be recognized as a potential member of the National Honor Society. To me this means I have exemplified everything you look for in a student who goes above and beyond, not just in academics but in athletics, the community and at home as well. I have not taken this selection for granted, as I believe would be a great asset to the National Honor Society. I am hardworking, honest, reliable and quite charismatic too. I hold all the qualities required by the distinguished NHS like leadership, service, character and scholarship.
Many posses the commitment to the qualities of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, but how one uses them shows the core of their disposition. For each of these qualities, there are many traits, useful in a leader, and not. Since it is only my second year as a student at Carlsbad High School, there has not been much time of my being distracted from my school work as I try to be as diligent of a student as possible. However, from time to time, I take a break and do things for the community instead. The students that make up the National Honor Society are extremely dedicated in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, and I would be very grateful to be a part of the standards.
Community service is not just something I do to be a part of National Honor Society. Community service is more to me. To volunteer and do good for my community and others are the major reasons for me completing my service hours. Just seeing other people’s lives brighten up because of my help is my reward.
The National Honor Society is built upon four founding principles: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have a high school life filled with dedication to these four principles on the Spiritual standpoint, the Familial level, the Community level and finally at the National level. Moreover, I did begin my dedication to these same four principles even before this starting with the Boy Scouts of America and this commitment will continue along with having a rich future when I reach my fullest potential. I firmly believe that to have academic excellence is giving your best effort to maintain not just having straight As and a high GPA at or close to the edge of attaining a 4.0, but to also have the skills that help you perform your very best in college and beyond. To recap, it is having a well-rounded education with just the right academics and activities best suited to your
