I first acknowledged the importance of healthcare and my desire to study nursing years ago when I started working at a medical clinic. Although I spent most of my time filing patients’ notes and other documents, I learned a lot by listening. The focus of my particular research project was to explain the role of heparan sulfate in retinal neovascularization in oxygen-induced retinopathy. With avascular areas, we could determine its role in vascular development, blood coagulation, and tumorigenesis.
