These days social media is taking the world by storm; people all around the world, no matter what age group, use it. We use social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat as a way to share and communicate with each other, and these media are also really useful to search for information and are a vital part of our life. However, research has shown the extreme use of social media may also cause some serious negative effects on our physical and mental health. paragraph 1 People these days are heavy users of social media, and it is causing them to have mental health problems, such as anxiety and psychological distress. According to Anxiety UK researcher Terri Torevell, “the pressures from technology act as a tipping point, making people feel more insecure and more overwhelmed.” Teenagers, some of whom browse the Internet for as much as 9 hours a day, are most vulnerable to becoming overwhelmed and so have higher rates of anxiety and depression. In this era of social media, we are constantly comparing ourselves, our bodies, our friends and our lives.
